They all worked so hard and 100% dedication was given by all. Everything just fell into place on the night and all of us had a really good time with lots of positive feedback from those who attended. Thanks to L’Arche Arnprior for bringing a bus load of people to support us. It was wonderful to see all the families, friends, community members, students and sponsors there to support Community Living Renfrew County South. We had an unbelievable turnout of 303 participants registered for the event this year. The start line warm-up session showed off all the pink and blue Unity Run t-shirts with everyone raring to go. The girls basketball team “Valley Pride” won our Team Challenge for their spirit, energy and over $900 raised so they will look after the Team trophy for the year! Our top fundraiser was Eric Teschke who collected over $200 – way to go Eric! We had a repeat performance with our “Run Happy” award with the trophy going to the Arnprior District High School for having the greatest number of participants in the Unity Run – 40 students supported by their teacher Carrie Sparling. Congratulations ADHS! Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers who helped to make this day so successful by assisting with the running clinic, helping with registration, covering all the streets and corners, setting up the hall and arranging all the food and of course cheering on our participants while handing out the medals and prizes! Many thanks to the local businesses who donated prizes to be given out at the Unity Run – everyone loved those. Special thanks goes to the OPP for leading the way at the start and the McNab Braeside firefighters for being out there at the corners of the route to ensure everyone’s safety. Thank you to our incredible sponsors whose generosity makes this event so successful and helps us to raise the much needed funds to provide accessible transportation to the individuals whom we support. Please let our sponsors know when you visit their businesses, how much you enjoyed the Unity Run and appreciate that they support it. CONNECTIONS 6 Sports Day Trip To Carleton University by Crystal Cobus After a great deal of activity we then headed to the main cafeteria where Carleton treated us to an all you could eat lunch! This included a variety of foods: a salad bar, fruit bar and even an ice cream stand. This trip was by far one of the best opportunities I have shared with the individuals and staff at Community Living Renfrew County South. The Carleton faculty was so helpful and accommodating, there is so much to be said for their hospitality. They informed me that it was one of the most inspiring day camps they have held and they would love to have us to come back next year. Everyone who attended the Carleton Sports Day had indicated they most definitely want to go back. So see you next year Carleton and thank you for the amazing fun-filled opportunity from all of us In August this year we had an amazing opportunity to at Community Living. attend a Sports Day trip at Carleton University. Individuals from Renfrew and Arnprior all joined together on a bus down to Carleton University where the Recreation Department hosted several organized games for us all. We participated in soccer in the indoor Field House and then we headed to the next gym to participate in European hand ball which was new to most of us and then some basketball. After our fun workout in sports everyone had an excellent cool off in the indoor pool! The diving board and the water slide were a huge attraction where we had many laughs and lots of excitement.
