Position Overview: The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for United Way of Anchorage will have primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing, and controlling all finance-related activities of the .

He/she will report to the and participate as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). The CFO will directly influence and participate in the day-to-day operations, budgets, and long-range planning for UWA. The CFO will also have overall responsibility for , internal financial reporting, financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and analysis, tax, and treasury.

Essential Functions/Roles & Responsibilities of the Position:

Financial -

• Works with executive team to establish major economic/financial objectives and policies for the organization. • Develops, analyzes, and interprets statistical and accounting information to assess operating results in terms of performance against budget, cash flow projections and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the organization. • Coordinates and directs the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts, institutes and maintains other planning and control procedures, and analysis and reports variances. • Furnishes accurate and timely financial reports to the Senior Leadership Team and . • Provides information used in the preparation of all grant applications and fund-raising activities. • Meets with potential donors/funders on an as needed basis to discuss the financial stability of the organization. • Prepares for and coordinates annual audit(s). • Key contributor to the implementation of the organization’s strategy through oversight of critical projects and initiatives. • Reviews financial data to analyze revenue trends and expenses, makes projections, and provides strategic financial input and leadership on decision-making issues. • Oversees a proper system of internal controls including evaluating and implementing financial policies, procedures, and standards. • Participates in the evaluation and implementation of multiple accounting systems and ancillary systems. • Provides instruction, direction, motivation, and support in the supervision of financial staff

Backroom Services - Client United Way -

• General accounting, including data input, payroll, accounts payable • Campaign accounting • Grant and reporting • Audit support as required as the keeper of client financial records • Manage the pledge processing service • Provide client training as required

Other Responsibilities -

• Assists in all aspects of administration and other tasks directed by the President/CEO. • Works jointly with other members of the Executive Management Team and Board of Directors to meet goals of the strategic plan. • Oversees all pricing for new proposed programs and assists in the negotiation of terms and conditions for contract renewals of existing programs. • Develops relationships with and works closely with both the Chair and committee members for the , Finance Committee, and Investment and Pension Subcommittee. In addition, develops relationships and responds to requests on as needed basis for other committee and board members. • Negotiates all banking activities and develops relationships within the bank. • Manages organizational cash flow which includes funding programs on as needed basis. • Leads the function • Property management of UWA owned properties

Education, Skills & Qualifications Requirements:

Required - • Bachelor’s degree in /Accounting preferred. • 3-5 years finance and cash flow management/ analysis. • Passion for the mission and values of United Way. • A collaborative, motivational, supportive. Visionary leader. • Requires outstanding interpersonal, coaching and listening skills with the ability to communicate positively within all levels of the organization. • Proven ability to remain objective, discrete and exercise common sense always. • Able to develop strong, trusting relationships within department and organization. • Thrives in a dynamic environment and able to work on various projects simultaneously, requiring strong organizational and time management skills.

Preferred - • 10-15+ years of experience in non-profit and/or for- profit sectors. • Previous experience in mid to large United Way Member organization preferred. • Experience in a complex organization relative to size, scope from a financial and operational perspective. • Experience presenting to and providing critical financial information to executive teams and Board of Directors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and/or hear. Vehicle: Access to reliable insured automobile to be used for work related travel in the Anchorage area.

Hours of Work: 8:30 am – 5:00 pm - Monday - Friday

Salary & Benefits: Salary $100,000 – 130,000 Benefits include holiday pay, medical, dental, and vision insurance, and a retirement plan.
