Movies not only provide entertainment to the large audiences but also play some additional roles. The message provided by this medium is more impactful than any other medium because of its reach and easy accessibility. The content provided by the Indian films plays an important role in shaping up its audience. After, reviewing some of the movies, the researcher found a consistent theme of violence in almost all the films and found it important to share it with larger audience. Indian film industry produces more than 800 films annually and almost story line of all the movies is weaved around love, revenge, mafia wars and all this is supported by heavy dose of violence. Critics say that the Indian cinema nowadays is churning out films with persistent theme of violence because of the transplantation of the western ideas resulting in the portrayal of extreme vulgarity on big screen. Film makers follow the steps of Hollywood where most of the movies are much more violent than the bollywood. Movies released in the last few years have seen a continuous increase in the portrayal of violence both in content and subject wise. Keywords: Film violence; Bollywood; Movies. What is less understood and explored is its escalating integration with audiences, markets and entertainment industries beyond the Indian subcontinent. This book explores the relationship of Bollywood to Australia. We believe that this increasingly important relationship is an outcome of the convergence between two remarkably dynamic entities—globalising Bollywood, on the one hand and Asianising Australia, on the other. If there is a third element in this relationship, which is equally important, it is the mediating power of the vibrant diasporic community of South Asians in Australia. Hence, at its most basic, this book explores the conjunctures and ruptures between these three forces: Bollywood, Australia and their interface, the diaspora. 1 Bollywood in Australia It would be useful to see, at the outset, how Bollywood here refers not only to the Bombay film industry, but is symbolic of the Indian and even the South Asian film industry.

  • Prostitution, Traffic in Women and the Politics of Dogra Raj: the Case of Kashmir Valley (1846-1947)
Journal of Society in Kashmir PROSTITUTION, TRAFFIC IN WOMEN AND THE POLITICS OF DOGRA RAJ: THE CASE OF KASHMIR VALLEY (1846-1947) SHIRAZ AHMAD DAR Department of History, University of Delhi, New Delhi Email: [email protected] YOUNUS RASHID SHAH Department of History, Kashmir University, Srinagar Email: [email protected] (Abstract) ‘Prostitution’ describes sexual intercourse in exchange for remuneration. While society attempts to normalize prostitution on a variety of levels, prostituted women are subjected to violence and abuse at the hands of paying ‘clients’. For the vast majority of prostituted women, ‘prostitution is the experience of being hunted, dominated, harassed, assaulted and battered’ (Farley & Kelly 2000: 29). The global forces that ‘choose’ women for prostitution include, among others, gender discrimination, race discrimination, poverty, abandonment, debilitating sexual and verbal abuse, poor or no education, and a job that does not pay a living wage (Farley, 2006:102-03). Prostitution as the subject of historical concern has received surprisingly little attention from modern historians working on Kashmir. Surprisingly, political historians have seen little connection between prostitution, traffic in women and the business of politics and governance. The present paper seeks to study the lives of ‘prostitutes’ in relation to the social and political developments in the beautiful valley of Kashmir under Dogra autocracy (1846-1947). Keywords: Politics: Prostitution; Women Trafficking; Dogras Summary The class of prostitutes,

  • Hollywood Films Have Inspiration for Hindi Film Industry
PRLog - Global Press Release Distribution Hollywood Films Have Inspiration For Hindi Film Industry The Hollywood influence is evident in some of the forthcoming biggies like Paa, Action Replay, Agyaat and Pyaar Impossible. June 23, 2009 - PRLog -- Right from cult classics like Baazi (1951) to Sholay (1975) and Baazigar (1993) - and even Ghajini (2008) - all have some western movie as the stimulus. The Hollywood influence is evident in some of the forthcoming biggies like Paa, Action Replay, Agyaat and Pyaar Impossible. Guru Dutt's debut Baazi was inspired by the Rita Hayworth starrer Gilda (1946), while Sholay is widely called an 'Indian curry Western film', with inspiration from seven Hollywood films including - Once Upon A Time In The West (1968), Spaghetti Westerns, The Wild Bunch (1969), Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973) and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969). Baazigar and Ghajini are said to be Indianised versions of A Kiss Before Dying (1991) Memento (2000) respectively. Paa supposedly draws its plot from the 1996 comedy-drama Jack, about a boy who ages faster than normal due to a disease, while Akshay Kumar-starrer Action Replay is an alleged take-off on the reverse-ageing drama The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Promos of Ram Gopal Varma's horror thriller Agyaat suggest sequences from sci-fi horror Predator (1987). Pyaar Impossible is apparently sketched around reality TV series Beauty and the Geek and 1999s Notting Hill - on a relationship between a film actress and her fan. David Dhawan, Karan Johar and Abbas-Mustan are working on remakes of The Wedding Crashers (2005), Stepmom (1998) and The Italian Job (1969 and 2003).
