Сохранение некоторых редких эндемичных видов Astragalus L. ex situ Astragalus L. (Fabaceae Lindl.) is the largest genus of flowering plants, containing up to 3000 species. In Siberian flora this genus is re presented by 92 species, 17 of them are protected as endangered species. Some perennial Astragalus species are used for medicine and forage production, and its can be used for erosion con- trol because of their taproot systems. The objects of present study were A. seri- ceocanus Gontsch. and A. olchonensis Gontsch., endemic herbaceous perennial species of the Baikal region. A. sericeocanus is listed in Red Data Book of the Bury- atia Republic (2002) as a threate ned species (NT). A. olchonensis is included in the Red Data Books of the Irkutsk Region (2001) and the Russian Federation (2008) as an endangered plant (EN). Major determinants of extinction risk for these spe- cies include anthropogenic environmental impacts such as tourism and livestock grazing. These destructions led to mobility of the sandy substrate and as a result to reduction of population number. Ex situ conservation in germplasm living col- lections is a major focus of global plant conservation strategies. However, poor seed germination ability of A. sericeocanus and A. olchonensis restricts natural propagation in living collection of the Central Siberian Botanical Garden and, thus, in vitro techniques were developed as tools for its propagation, second metabo- lites production and conservation. Efficient protocols for regeneration of studied species through direct and indirect organogenesis, as well as rooting and acclima- tization procedures were created. Biochemical analysis of secondary metabolites of A. sericeocanus by high performance liquid chromatography showed that the composition and content of phenolic compounds in plantlets were comparable to in vivo plants, indicating high biosynthetic capacity of microplants. The obtained results would contribute to future germplasm conservation of these rare medici- nal species. “Lost world” in biodiversity studies 5 Interspecies morphology variation of Dasiphora fruticosa in Siberia and the Russian Far East Elena V. Внутривидовая морфологическая изменчивость Dasiphora fruticosa в Сибири и на Дальнем Востоке Популяционный подход к изучению внутривидовой изменчи вос ти позволяет вскрыть микроэволюционные процессы и ме ханизмы адаптации вида, а его структура определяется гео гра фи ческими и экологическими факторами, генетическим по тен циалом, при сущим данному виду, и его историей. Цель ис- сле дования – в изучении межпопуляционной изменчивости мор фологических признаков листа и чашечки цветка D. fruticosa в ценотических популяциях (ЦП) Восточной Сибири и Дальнего Вос тока России. Исследовано 53 ЦП и 70 популяций из гер барных фондов. Дисперсионный анализ количественных и ка чественных параметров показывает, что континентальные ЦП про яв ляют стабильность признаков, чем существенно от ли ча ют ся от приокеанических ЦП, где отмечена высокая ва риа бельность. Установлена достоверная корреляция между ко ли чественными и градиентными параметрами (широта, долгота и высота над ур. м.) ЦП. Так, конечная доля листа D. fru- ticosa в кон ти нентальных ЦП длиннее и шире, чем в приморских, данный па раметр уменьшается по широтному градиенту с юга на север. Параметр отношение ширины к длине конечной доли листа (описывающий степень округлости листочка), уменьшается с дол готой и широтой и увеличивается с высотой над ур. моря. Растения D. fruticosa из континентальных и более юж ных ЦП (на местообитаниях низких высотных поясов в горах) име ют более округлую конечную долю листа. По результатам клас сифи кационной группировки ЦП по всем морфологическим признакам на индивидуальном уровне установлено 7 основных групп, и каждый морфологический признак вносит свой вклад в их разделение. Основной вклад в морфологическую изменчивость вносят сезонное ко личество осадков, холодовой индекс Кира, индекс континентальности климата. С помощью логистической регрессии предсказаны значения качественных признаков по факторам среды. Только часть морфологических признаков контролируется географическими и кли- ма тическими параметрами, существенная часть изменчивости популяции может быть объяснена биологическими факторами, то есть можно предположить различия между популяциями генетической природы. 6 Сonference dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the BGI FEB RAS The development of science skills by means of continuing education for children Olga V. Развитие естественнонаучной грамотности средствами дополнительного образования детей В современном понимании содержание естественнонаучной направленности дополнительного образования детей включает в себя формирование научной картины мира, удовлетворение познавательных интересов учащихся в об лас- ти естественных наук, развитие у них исследовательской активности, эко ло- гическое воспитание, приобретение практических навыков в области охра ны природы и природопользования. Главным условием экологического вос пи та- ния является непосредственный контакт с объектами природы, живое обще - ние, наблюдение, изучение и практическая деятельность по уходу за ними. Цель нашей деятельности – создание условий для экологического воспита- ния детей дошкольного и школьного возраста, экспериментальной и ис сле- довательской деятельности, допрофессиональная подготовка. Задачи: 1) уг- луб ление и расширение знаний о природе края; 2) формирование у де тей прак тических навыков и умений исследовательской и практической деятель - нос ти в природе; 3) создание естественных природных участков. Целевая ауди- тория: обучающиеся 3–18 лет. На территории дендроучастка про израстает более 30 видов деревьев и кустарников. Все они посажены учащимися в раз ное время, начиная с 1966 года. Этот материал послужил основой для вы- полнения более 40 проектных и исследовательских работ. Кроме этого, тер- ри тория используется для проведения уроков, мероприятий, экскурсий по ок- ружающему миру и биологии. Знакомства детей с биоразнообразием, типами экосистем, некоторыми биологическими и экологическими понятиями и др. происходит в оранжерее, где собрано 100 видов тропических и субтропических растений. Каждый компонент образовательной среды Отделения обладает огромным потенциалом для проведения уроков, занятий и экскурсий, научно-исследовательской деятельности по ботанике, зоологии, экологии, общей биологии и цветоводству и охране природы. Ожидаемые результаты взаимосвязи всех компонентов: 1) развитие познавательной активности, выражающееся в повышении качества образования; 2) развитие творческой активности учащихся, выражающееся в участии в научно-исследовательской

Mountains play an important role in conserving the genetic resources of species. Liriodendron chinense is a Tertiary relict tree largely endemic to subtropical China. In this study, we aimed to achieve a better understanding of the phylogeographical pattern of L. chinense andtoexploretheroleofmountainsintheconservationofL. chinense genetic resources. Methods: Three chloroplast regions (psbJ-petA, rpl32-ndhF, and trnK5’-matK) were sequenced in 40 populations of L. chinense for phylogeographical analyses. Relationships among chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) haplotypes were determined using median-joining networks, and genetic structure was examined by spatial analysis of molecular variance (SAMOVA). The ancestral area of the species was reconstructed using the Bayesian binary Markov Chain Monte Carlo (BBM) method according to its geographic distribution and a maximum parsimony (MP) tree based on Bayesian methods. Results: Obvious phylogeographic structure was found in L. chinense. (subtribe Ferulinae, tribe Scandiceae, Apiaceae) was initially analyzed using nrDNA, internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequence data followed with three regions of cpDNA (rps16 and rpoC1 introns and rpoB-trnC intergenic spacers) from 141 representatives of subtribe Ferulinae (Ferula, Dorema, Leutea) and relatives. Further analyses of the biogeographical history of the Ferula group were carried out using BEAST, S-DIVA and BBM in RASP on all datasets. The results suggested that the initial split within Ferulinae occurred during Early Pliocene about 4.8 Ma and earlier ancestor of Ferula group has been originated mostly in Armeno-Iranian province. One descendent giving rises to the Ferula clade and another descendent subsequently underwent further divergence to account for Leutea lineages about 1.8-2 Ma. The rapid diversification within Ferulinae clade has occurred since the Middle Pliocene. Subsequent diversification of the Ferula clade intensified in the Irano-Turanian region during the late Pliocene in the Central Asian zone and toward west in Mediterranean zone during early Pleistocene. The ancestor of Chinese group of Ferula spread from Central Asia to eastern Asia in the Pliocene (2.2-4 Ma).

The greenhouse collection of Pinaceae representatives has been analysed, provided with a short description of family, genus and certain species, presented in the collection. The article highlights the importance of Pinaceae for various industries, decorative value of plants of this group, the worth of the pinaceous as having environment-improving properties.     THE NEWSLETTER OF THE SHADE AND WOODLAND PLANTS GROUP May 2019 Plant of the Month: Cardamine heptaphylla 'Big White' Joe Sime I like cardamines and cannot resist buying and planting any new ones that I see. This has led to some disappointments. I could never get C. diphylla to thrive, having tried the basic form, 'Echo Cutleaf' and 'American Sweetheart' in the past. It has also led to some problems. I bought and planted C. bulbifera in spite of the clear warning given to me by the seller. It is a redefinition of the term 'Thug'. It spreads by rhizomes and by bulbils produced in the leaf axils. I have tried to confine it to one particular area of the garden, but the bulbils have obviously managed to spread themselves around in the dead leaves used for leaf mould and I now have little colonies trying to establish themselves around the place. Luckily they are easy to spot and pull up. There are easier ways to get pink flowers! However 'Big White' is neither a disappointment nor a thug. It is large for a cardamine, growing to about 40 cms tall and as much across. The leaves are large with, as the name suggests, seven toothed leaflets. In spring it produces good heads of pure white flowers. It should produce the long seed pods typical of the brassica family but mine has not. It is dormant by mid summer leaving room for later things around it. The basic species comes from meadows and woodland in central and southern Europe. It is said to prefer alkaline soils and a fairly open site, but manages with the acid side of neutral and an overhead oak tree here.

    THE NEWSLETTER OF THE SHADE AND WOODLAND PLANTS GROUP February 2019 Plant of the Month: Blechnum spicant Joe Sime It is at this time of the year when the truly evergreen ferns come into their own, and one of the best of these is Blechnum spicant. This is a widespread species occurring in western North America, N.E. Asia and Europe. It is known as the deer fern or the hard fern. Like other members of the genus it produces two types of fronds: low growing, green sterile fronds about 18 ins long that form a bright mat at this time of the year and are shown in the photo, and taller (up to 3 ft) upright, fertile fronds growing from the centre of the clump. Once the spores are cast in early autumn these die back, and can be trimmed off if you are a tidy gardener. It is a trouble free plant accepting any spot in full or part shade, although it would like some moisture occasionally. The one shown is by a path at the foot of a young oak tree. They are said to divide easily (I have not tried) and to grow quite well from spore. And if you are hungry, the North American Indians used to eat the roots and make tea from the fronds! Epimedium (a love affair!) Colin Moat It’s always quite interesting when putting together a piece like this to hark back to when you first became attracted to the plant you are writing about. It happened probably more than 20 years ago at a plant fair, and I was wowed by seeing a fabulous display offered by Europa Nursery (then based in London but they moved to Devon, and, I believe, closed their nursery).

Radicles and cotyledons emerged in late winter and spring. Thus, a 15–16 month period was required from dispersal to seed germination. Under laboratory conditions, this period could be shortened to 5–6 months in a 25°C / 15°C (60 days) → 15°C / 5°C (60 days) → 5°C (60 days) temperature sequence. Based on dormancy-breaking requirements, the seeds have deep simple morphophysiological dormancy (MPD). This is practical knowledge for propagation of the species from seeds.
