UDFB Catalog2016 WEB.Pdf The University District Food Bank Presents Its Annual Benefit Auction Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016 St. Demetrios Hall www.udistrictfoodbank.org Welcome Friends of the University District Food Bank! Thank you so very much for joining us for the 21st annual “Take a Bite Out of Hunger” Benefit Auction! I’m honored and proud to welcome you on behalf of our board of directors, staff and, most importantly, our customers. This event continues to serve as the primary generator of funding for our daily operations. So please give generously this evening. We are also very grateful for the underwriting and support of this event from our sponsors. Without them we would not be able to make this evening possible. Please help us thank our sponsors by supporting their businesses. This year has been an amazing one for the University District Food Bank. July 11 marked the first day of operations in our beautiful new facility, located near the corner of 50th and Roosevelt Ave NE. We are very excited about the opportunities this new facility will bring to the community. It’s bigger and it’s better! Thank you to all of you who made it possible through the success of the multi-year Capital Campaign. You may already be aware of the impact of the University District Food Bank, but I can’t emphasize enough how vital the lifeline is that University District Food Bank provides to those in our community in need. By year- end, the food bank will provide over 2.3 million pounds of food to over 5,200 families. Distribution of this food is done via several wonderful services. We offer a grocery-store model for customers with the walk-in food bank dur- ing business hours, home delivery to those unable to reach the food bank, and weekend back packs filled with food supplies for local students on free or reduced lunch programs. In fact, we have expanded the “Packs for Kids” program to now serve eleven schools in our service area. Thanks to your help and donations, the University District Food Bank remains a steadfast pillar of support in Seattle. That community support comes to us through food donations, money and volunteer time. Every month, our volunteers contribute more than 1,900 hours of service helping to stock our shelves, pack and unpack donations, assist families in making nutritious selections, and offer a kind word to everyone who comes through our door. Our local grocery stores, community food drives and farmers at the University District Farmers Market contribute food each week to keep our shelves stocked. We receive financial support from local government, church- es, schools, businesses, foundations and you. We are all in this together, working to keep all our neighbors nourished. Even in our new and beautiful space, we need continuous support. Maintaining our facility and expanding our services will require more funding. I would be remiss if I didn’t thank Development Director Paul Yunker, Board Vice President Paula Rhyne, Board Member Brooke Anderson and the Auction Committee for their hard work preparing for tonight. Lastly, thank YOU – our guests – for helping to make tonight’s event a suc- cess. Enjoy your evening, laugh, eat, drink, share and give! Give big! Sean S. Use only the bid number assigned to you. Please hold your bid number so the Auctioneer can easily see it. The Auctioneer will acknowledge successful bidders at the conclusion of each Live Item. Dessert Dash The Dessert Dash is a group activity. At each table there are Dessert Dash bid sheets. When the auctioneer gives the signal, table guests will have an opportunity to place their bids individually. The Dessert bid sheets will be collected and tabulated by the assigned table captain for each table. The table captain then writes the total of all his/her individual table bid sheets on the front of the envelope. A runner will collect each table’s envelope and order them from the highest to lowest. The Auctioneer will announce the order and a person from each table will be able to “dash” and choose their dessert. In case of ties, the first one to the table wins. Best of Live Raffle Rules 1. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the Raffle table. 2. Each purchase includes a chance to win one Live Auction item.

news #34 MUNGOLIAN JETSET - MUNGODELICS Hot on the heels of 2011`s "Schlungs", the Jetsetters have kept those buttons busily pushed, and are already here with their next chapter installment, featuring 8 new nuggets entitled "Mungodelics". The album is essentially a psychodramatic sequel to the highly acclaimed "We Gave It All Away, Now We Are Taking It Back" album of 2009, as it is musically a blend of originals and remakes made into originals, as well as solo performances and external collaborations from the band`s musical core members, Knut Saevik and Paul "Strangefruit" Nyhus. All in all, "Mungodelics" musically summons everything that is hazy, dazy, underearthly and crazy. This is the Mungolian Jetset taking you on a ride through the seasons, and shifts of the days and nights, from the Cantina to the Ewok forest, via ritualistic dancing at Kilmin Taboour and stellar swimming in the galactic Goa. URBAN DECOLONIZATION Norrinda Brown Hayat* National fair housing legislation opened up higher opportunity neighborhoods to multitudes of middle-class African Americans. In actuality, the FHA offered much less to the millions of poor, Black residents in inner cities than it did to the Black middle class. Partly in response to the FHA’s inability to provide quality housing for low-income blacks, Congress has pursued various mobility strategies designed to facilitate the integration of low-income Blacks into high-opportunity neighborhoods as a resolution to the persistent dilemma of the ghetto. These efforts, too, have had limited success. Now, just over fifty years after the passage of the Fair Housing Act and the Housing Choice Voucher Program (commonly known as Section 8), large numbers of African Americans throughout the country remain geographically isolated in urban ghettos.

Both Attorney General Bob Ferguson and Holmes have filed lawsuits. The state’s suit only involves Purdue Pharma; however, the City of Seattle’s suit names Purdue Pharma, Teva Pharmaceuticals, Endo Pharmaceuticals, and several other prescription drug makers. The two suits, filed in King County Superior Court, allege that the pharmaceutical companies contributed to the drugs being overprescribed by doctors, thus fueling the eruption in Washington state. “The misconception of drug addicts is that they are poor, uneducated and morally bankrupt,” Deputy City Attorney Michelle Chen said. “The reality is that opioids and drug addiction can impact families across the entire economic spectrum, Page 1 SEATTLE CITY ATTORNEY’S OFFICE PETER S.
