Coverscaping: Discovering Album Aesthetics. Museum Tusculanum Press. 2 Abstract The Pomegranate Cycle is a practice-led enquiry consisting of a creative work and an exegesis. This project investigates the potential of self-directed, technologically mediated composition as a means of reconfiguring gender stereotypes within the operatic tradition. This practice confronts two primary stereotypes: the positioning of female performing bodies within narratives of violence and the absence of women from authorial roles that construct and regulate the operatic tradition. The Pomegranate Cycle redresses these stereotypes by presenting a new narrative trajectory of healing for its central character, and by placing the singer inside the role of composer and producer. During the twentieth and early twenty-first century, operatic and classical music institutions have resisted incorporating works of living composers into their repertory. -

THE BIGGEST SHOW ON EARTH: The U2 360- Degree Tour and its implications on the Concert Industry An Undergraduate Honors Thesis by Daniel Dicker Senior V449 Professor Monika Herzig April 2011 Abstract The rock band U2 is currently touring stadiums and arenas across the globe in what is, by all accounts, the most ambitious and expensive concert tour and stage design in the history of the live music business. U2’s 360-Degree Tour, produced and marketed by Live Nation Entertainment, is projected to become the top-grossing tour of all time when it concludes in July of 2011. This is due to a number of different factors that this thesis will examine: the stature of the band, the stature of the ticket-seller and concert-producer, the ambitious and attendance- boosting design of the stage, the relatively-low ticket price when compared with the ticket prices of other tours and the scope of the concert's production, and the resiliency of ticket sales despite a poor economy. After investigating these aspects of the tour, this thesis will determine that this concert endeavor will become a new model for arena level touring and analyze the factors for success. Introduction The concert industry handbook is being rewritten by U2 - a band that has released blockbuster albums and embarked on sell-out concert tours for over three decades - and the largest concert promotion company in the world, Live Nation. This thesis is an examination of how these and other forces have aligned to produce and execute the most impressive concert production and single-most successful concert tour in history. -

GAZETA Nr 1/571 RYBNICKAISSN 1232-437X BEZPŁATNY MIESIĘCZNIK SPOŁECZNO-KULTURALNY STYCZEŃ 2019 Kolęda z gwiazdami Trzeba skończyć z nienawiścią Wielokrotnie zwracałem się w tym miejscu do Państwa, mówiąc m.in. o najważniejszych problemach naszego miasta i lokalnej społeczności. Po tragicznych wydarzeniach w Gdańsku, po tym, co tam się stało, jestem pewien, że przesłaniem uniwersalnym, dotyczącym każdego z nas, każdej ze wspólnot samorządowych, przesłaniem, które w znakomity sposób zdefiniowało bardzo poważny problem całego naszego kraju, ale i wspólnot lokalnych, było wystąpienie dominikanina ojca Ludwika Wiśniewskiego na pogrzebie prezydenta Gdańska Pawła Adamowicza, zamordowanego w czasie gdańskiego finału Wielkiej Orkiestry Świątecznej Pomocy. Fragment tego wystąpienia pozwolę sobie tutaj przytoczyć. Prezydent Rybnika Piotr Kuczera – Z Gdańska wielokrotnie wychodził głos, właściwie krzyk, który wielu ludziom przywracał moralną równowagę. 80 lat temu z Gdańska, z Westerplatte, wyszedł rozpaczliwy krzyk wołający do całego świata, że wolność jest wartością bezcenną, że wolności trzeba bronić, zawsze bronić. Niemal 40 lat temu z Gdańska wyszedł apel do świata, w którym dobitnie wołano, że należy porzucić stary świat, świat egoizmu, darwinowskiej walki klas, że należy tworzyć świat nowy, świat solidarności, w którym jeden człowiek bierze na siebie brzemię drugiego człowieka i w którym porzuca się już etos walki ze złem, a buduje się świat, w którym zło zwycięża się dobrem. Gdańsk słusznie się nazywa, i wielokrotnie Paweł to powtarzał, miastem wolności i solidarności. Dzisiaj przeżywamy tu w Gdańsku nowy, dziejowy, historyczny moment. Cała Polska czeka, może nie tylko Polska, ażeby z Gdańska wyszło przesłanie, które dotrze do każdego Polaka i które przywróci moralną równowagę w naszym kraju i w naszych sercach. -

Swan A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE CITY OF PRZEMYÂL The city of PrzemyÊl is situated on the San River next to the contemporary Polish-Ukrainian border, about 90 kilometers from Lwów (Lviv) in the east and from Rzeszów to the west. The oldest historical mention of PrzemyÊl is from 981. A natural passage between the Carpatians and the Sandomierz Lowlands, called the “PrzemyÊl Gate,” has for centuries connected cities in Eastern and Western Europe. PrzemyÊl’s location in a border zone between three countries caused the rulers of Poland, Ruthenia, and Hungary to try to gain control over it from the 10th century on. The town has always been inhabited by a population of many nationalities, denominations, and cultures: Poles, Ruthenians, Germans, Czechs, Armenians, and Jews. By the 17th and 18th centuries, most minorities were assimilated, leaving Poles, Ruthenians, and Jews as the dominant ethnic groups in PrzemyÊl and its surroundings. In 1772, following the first partition of Poland, PrzemyÊl was incorporated into Austria. Its development became possible again only after 1880, when the Polish territories under Austrian rule (Galicia) were allowed a significant degree of autonomy. This development was connected to the town’s strategic location near the border of the Russian Empire. A system of fortifications was expanded to make up the PrzemyÊl Fortress, one of the largest fortresses in Europe at the time. Economic recovery was also fostered by the construction of the railway line which connected Cracow to Lwów, with a branch leading to Hungary. -
