Alternately, you can say we live “north of the river.” Interestingly, we live north of North Kansas City (an actual city about 20 minutes southeast). Smithville is the only thing north of us that might be considered Kansas City. ● Four major roads will take you out of our neighborhood. They create a rectangle about 4 miles by 5 miles - I-29 to the west; Highway 169 on the east; I-435 on the north; Highway 152 to the south. There are some businesses inside this rectangle, but for most purposes, you’ll need these roads to take you where you want to go. ● Other towns nearby include Platte City, where some students from Hawksbury attend Platte County High School. Gladstone is about 20 minutes southeast of us. Directly south on I-29 and Highway 9 is Parkville, where other students from Hawksbury attend Park Hill High School. ● I-435 roughly circles Kansas City. From Hawksbury, you can take I-435 west to I-29 north if you’re headed to Platte City. I-29 itself takes you further north to St. Joseph (approximately 45- 60 minutes) and on toward Omaha, Nebraska. Southward, it ends downtown at a junction with I-70 (which runs west to Denver and east to St. Louis). ● Highway 152 runs east to Liberty (about 30 minutes), and to the west it ends at I-435. Highway 169 runs north through St. Joseph and south into Oklahoma. 169 is a meandering, scenic drive; there aren’t any big towns or landmarks along the way.
