Welser-Möst proved himself once again as high-class Strauss- Stage Director Alvis Hermanis conductor under whom “the orchestra conveyed the glittering colors and lyrical intricacies of Strauss’s late score” (NY Times). Danae Krassimira Stoyanova Jupiter Tomasz Konieczny Krassimira Stoyanova, regular fixture at the Salzburg Festival, is Merkur Norbert Ernst heading a truly supreme cast and emerges as the “one in a thousand, the true Strauss lyric-dramatic soprano who can soar and swoop, Pollux Wolfgang Ablinger-Sperrhacke working miracles on phrases that never stop coming” (The Artsdesk). Xanthe Regine Hangler Bass-Baritone Tomasz Konieczny, “sings this Jupiter almost Midas Gerhard Siegel unsurpassably” (FAZ), he “is so vocally majestic that Danae’s choice of Semele Mária Celeng Midas seems implausible” (Financial Times). Alvis Hermanis’ colourful Europa Olga Bezsmertna production brings oriental flair to the Salzach, his “staging was Alkmene Michaela Selinger spectacular above all else” (Opera Today). “Once more, this very rarely Leda Jennifer Johnston presented opera returned successfully on stage, leaving the audience with unforgettable impressive images embedded in soft romantic Video Director Agnes Méth sound.“ (Opera Online) “Die Liebe der Danae” is narrowly linked to the Festival’s rich history.
