Welser-Möst proved himself once again as high-class Strauss- Stage Director Alvis Hermanis conductor under whom “the orchestra conveyed the glittering colors and lyrical intricacies of Strauss’s late score” (NY Times). Danae Krassimira Stoyanova Jupiter Tomasz Konieczny Krassimira Stoyanova, regular fixture at the Salzburg Festival, is Merkur Norbert Ernst heading a truly supreme cast and emerges as the “one in a thousand, the true Strauss lyric-dramatic soprano who can soar and swoop, Pollux Wolfgang Ablinger-Sperrhacke working miracles on phrases that never stop coming” (The Artsdesk). Length: 159' Due to conditions during World War II, the Salzburg Festival, which Cat. no. A 040 50056 had commissioned the opera for summer 1944, couldn’t give the public premiere. Instead only a single dress rehearsal, attended by A co-production of Strauss himself, was performed for an invited audience.
