  • CHEVROLETTER June 2020
CHEVROLETTER June 2020 Vol 2020 Issue 6.0 Director’s Report June 2020 I hope the beginning of June finds all our members in good health and managing the sheltering in place restrictions. New Covid-19 rates on Long Island are down over 90% compared to our worst times so we must be making a difference. I do not know how the lower infection rates and Cuomo’s planned phases will affect the remainder of the 2020 car show season. The AACA has cancelled their major event at Hershey in October. this is the first time since Hershey will not be having a swap meet and car corral. I am told there is still a possibility of having the vehicle judging on Saturday. Carlisle rescheduled their spring event and are hoping to hold more swap meets as soon as conditions allow. People are getting very innovative to enjoy their cars in a safe a responsible way. I have seen groups of cars at Sunken Meadow Park with a circle of guys socially distanced and chatting. My Wednesday Bagel Chalet group now meets in the parking lot with their cars. I have been in a few rolling car shows thru local neighborhoods to give the residents a bit of a lift. Our club member, Peter Sarros planned a commemorative run thru Huntington Hospital to thank all the front line workers. What started as a small event quickly grew into a multi club event and food drive for the Huntington Cares foundation. There were over 80 cars in attendance, a motorcycle color guard and a police presence to control traffic.

Pontiacs of CENTRAL CALIFORNIA April 2016 NEWSLETTER President’s message th Presidents Letter April 11 , 2016 April is here and the annual Pontiac Show is only several days away. Thank You all for your help and support for this upcoming club event. Please bring your raffle prizes and t-shirt ad monies to the April 11th car club meeting, and turn in to Dave or Paula. Andy will bring us up to date with car show details. If you have not signed up for a particular job for the annual car show, placement of people will be assigned that night. The month of March was the annual Selma swap meet. POCC members did attend and were welcomed with rain showers. I am not quite sure how much money was made, but I know Pontiac stories were told. Also, in March, Judy and Joel set up a cruise and lunch that went well and the weather cooperated great for the convertible cars in attendance. There was good food and fellowship. March 3, Diane and I travelled to Temecula for their annual Rod Run. There were many cars, great food, and beautiful weather. Returning home on Sunday we were met with rain. The rain ceased when coming down the north side of the Grapevine. March 12th was the Hot Rod Coalition Shindig dinner. There were lot of raffle prizes and a very big silent auction. DiCicco’s Italian Restaurant provided the food which was very good. The POCC members were well represented. As you can see, this month was very busy as we March’d on to April! • Pontiac Parisienne
Pontiac History: 1950-1958 The name Catalina was first used on the 1950 Chieftain Series 25/27 hardtop, Pontiac's top of the line model at the time. Originally referred to as 'hard-top convertibles', these vehicles offered pillarless design in the door and window areas, along with the top-grade convertible appointments. The advantage this fixed-roof design offered was its sporty, airy feeling without the expense and drawbacks normally associated with convertibles. With the exception of the 1958 Bonneville, all Pontiac hardtops were designated Catalina from 1950 to 1958. Powered by a flathead straight-8 engine at the time of its debut, it would receive Pontiac's new 287in³ OHV V8 four years later. 1959-1960 For 1959, Pontiac dropped the name Chieftain for its entry level model and renamed it Catalina, while demoting the former top-line Star Chief to mid-line status and expanding the Bonneville nameplate to a full flagship series that included sedans, coupes, convertibles and Safari station wagons. In the lower-priced Catalina line, Pontiac Division advertising placed higher emphasis on the top trimmed two and four door hardtops, convertible and Safari station wagons instead of the pillared two and four door sedan variants despite the fact that the four-door sedan was the bread-and-butter best seller in this line. The Catalina, though it was the lowest-priced full-sized Pontiac, was still a substantial step up from the Chevrolet Impala in trim and appointments and only a short step below the Buick LeSabre and Oldsmobile 88 in trim and appointments but priced about $100 to $200 less.
