Cristóbal Ríos Maláver2 Resumen Se ilustran a color ejemplares de algunos Nyctiborinae neotropicales, con la figuración de los tipos de 3 especies de esta subfamilia, descritos de Colombia y Costa Rica: Paratropes otunensis Salazar, 2004; Muzoa simplex Hebard, 1921 y Muzoa madida Rhen, 1930. Además se incluyen caracteres relevantes de los principales géneros registrados en Colombia, una clave dicotómica a nivel genérico e ilustración de especies procedentes de algunas colecciones nacionales. Tales especies fueron originalmente descritas y publicadas en diversas revistas nacionales o internacionales. Insects and their endosymbionts: phylogenetics and evolutionary rates Daej A Kh A M Arab The University of Sydney Faculty of Science 2021 A thesis submitted in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Authorship contribution statement During my doctoral candidature I published as first-author or co-author three stand-alone papers in peer-reviewed, internationally recognised journals. These publications form the three research chapters of this thesis in accordance with The University of Sydney’s policy for doctoral theses. These chapters are linked by the use of the latest phylogenetic and molecular evolutionary techniques for analysing obligate mutualistic endosymbionts and their host mitochondrial genomes to shed light on the evolutionary history of the two partners. Therefore, there is inevitably some repetition between chapters, as they share common themes. In the general introduction and discussion, I use the singular “I” as I am the sole author of these chapters. All other chapters are co-authored and therefore the plural “we” is used, including appendices belonging to these chapters. Part of chapter 2 has been published as: Bourguignon, T., Tang, Q., Ho, S.Y., Juna, F., Wang, Z., Arab, D.A., Cameron, S.L., Walker, J., Rentz, D., Evans, T.A. and Lo, N., 2018. Transoceanic dispersal and plate tectonics shaped global cockroach distributions: evidence from mitochondrial phylogenomics. Molecular Biology and Evolution, 35(4), pp.970-983. The chapter was reformatted to include additional data and analyses that I undertook towards this paper. My role was in the paper was to sequence samples, assemble mitochondrial genomes, perform phylogenetic analyses, and contribute to the writing of the manuscript. -

Keys for identification to species of Leucospis known for Italy are given. Some morphological and biological notes about this family of Chalcidoidea are given. RIASSUNTO - Vengono fornite le tabelle di determinazione delle specie di Leu- cospididae presenti in Italia. Nella parte introduttiva sono riportati brevi cenni morfologici e biologici atti a definire le caratteristiche dei Calcidoidei in esame. INTRODUZIONE I Leucospididae sono una piccola famiglia di Imenotteri Calcidoidei a cui sono attribuiti quattro generi dei quali solo Leucospis è presente in Eu- ropa. Difficilmente mancano esemplari di Leucospididi nelle collezioni de- gli imenotterologi, trattandosi di Insetti vistosi e presenti in molti ambienti, ove volano sui fiori alla ricerca di nettare per nutrirsi oppure di Aculeati da parassitizzare. Di norma preferiscono ambienti caldi e secchi. Onde predisporre un lavoro aggiornato, sono stati utilizzati sia i dati de- sunti dalla bibliografia sia quelli ricavati dallo studio della mia collezione e delle collezioni di numerosi Musei italiani e del Dipartimento di Entomolo- gia e Zoologia applicate all’Ambiente “Carlo Vidano” dell’Università di Torino. Januar 2016 Overview of the Distribution and Biogeography of Sapygidae (Hymenoptera: Aculeata) in Turkey Erol YILDIRIM Abstract Faunistic and systematic studies on Sapygidae of Turkey are reviewed and the distribution and biogeography of the Turkish sapygid fauna is analyzed. In this study, one species in one genus of Fedtschenkiinae and 14 species in five genera of Sapyginae are recorded. In total, 15 species belonging to six genera of Sapygidae are recorded from Turkey. Among them, the type localities of six species of Sapygidae are located in Turkey. Furthermore, three species comprising 20% of Turkish Sapygidae are endemic. Species composition, diversity and proportion of endemism varies considerably between the biogeographic subregions of the country. Zusammenfassung Vorliegende Arbeit gibt den Stand der faunistischen und systematischen Erforschung der Sapygidae (Hymenoptera) der Türkei wieder. Nachgewiesen sind bisher eine Art der Unterfamilie der Fedtschenkiinae sowie 14 Arten der Sapyginae, die sich auf 6 Gattungen verteilen. Unter diesen Arten haben 6 Arten ihren locus typicus in der Türkei, drei Arten (20 %) gelten als endemisch. Blaberoidea, comprised of Ectobiidae and Blaberidae, is the most speciose cockroach clade and exhibits immense variation in life history strategies. We analysed the phylogeny of Blaberoidea using four mitochondrial and three nuclear genes from 99 blaberoid taxa. Blaberoidea (excl. Anaplectidae) and Blaberidae were recovered as monophyletic, but Ectobiidae was not; Attaphilinae is deeply subordinate in Blattellinae and herein abandoned. Our results, together with those from other recent phylogenetic studies, show that the structuring of Blaberoidea in Blaberidae, Pseudophyllodromiidae stat. rev., Ectobiidae stat. rev., Blattellidae stat. rev., and Nyctiboridae stat. rev. (with “ectobiid” subfamilies raised to family rank) represents a sound basis for further development of Blaberoidea systematics. -

One possible effect of climate change is the generation of a mismatch in the seasonal timing of interacting organisms, owing to species-specific shifts in phenology. Despite concerns that plants and pollinators might be at risk of such decoupling, there have been few attempts to test this hypothesis using detailed phenological data on insect emergence and flowering at the same localities. In particular, there are few data sets on pollinator flight seasons that are independent of flowering phenology, because pollinators are typically collected at flowers. To address this problem, we established standardized nesting habitat (trap nests) for solitary bees and wasps at sites along an elevational gradient in the Rocky Mountains, and monitored emergence during three growing seasons. We also recorded air temperatures and flowering phenology at each site. Using a reciprocal transplant experiment with nesting bees, we confirmed that local environmental conditions are the primary determinants of emergence phenology. We were then able to develop phenology models to describe timing of pollinator emergence or flowering, across all sites and years, as a function of accumulated degree-days. Although phenology of both plants and insects is well described by thermal models, the best models for insects suggest generally higher threshold temperatures for development or diapause termination than those required for plants. -

The other subgenera of the former genus Hoplitis are united with the genera Anthocopa and Osmia into the common genus Osmia. The genus Hoplitis s.str. is probably more closely related to Chelostoma than to Osmia. Izvleček - Delna rodovna revizija čebel tribusa Osmiini (Hymenoptera: Megachilidae) V delni reviziji čebel, ki jih navadno uvrščamo v tribus Osmiini, se pod- rod Hoplitis rodu Hoplitis dvigne na rodovno raven. Drugi podrodovi dose danjega rodu Hoplitis se združijo z rodovi Anthocopa in Osmia v skupen rod Osmia. Rod Hoplitis s.str. je verjetno bolj soroden rodu Chelostoma kot Osmia. Introduction Bees of the tribe Osmiini were classified in two genera. Osmia and Heriades (or Eriades ) by B en oist (1929), F riese (1898), Ducke (1900), and Schmiedeknecht (1930). Schletterer (1889) also recognized the genus Chelostoma. The genus Osmia s.l. was split by M ichener (1941) into three bigger genera, Anthocopa, Hoplitis and Osmia s.s., and some smaller ones. But many European entomologists still include them all in Osmia. W arncke (1991) even united Heriades and Chelostoma with the large genus Osmia. Discussion Michener’s classification was established almost entirely on the basis of the New World species.
