ABSTRACT. 231 species of the family Vespidae (Hymenoptera, Vespoidea) of Iran, in 55 genera belonging to 4 subfamilies Eumeninae (45 genera, 184 species), Masarinae (5 genera, 24 species), Polistinae (2 genera, 17 species) and Vespinae (3 genera, 6 species) are listed. An overall assessment of the distribution pattern of the vespid species in Iran indicates a complex fauna of different biogeographic regions. 111 species are found in both Eastern and Western Palaearctic regions, while 67 species were found only in the Eastern Palaearctic region. Few species (14 species – 6.1%) of various genera are known as elements of central and western Asian area and their area of distribution is not known in Europe (West Palaearctic) and in the Far East. The species that were found both in the Oriental and Afrotropical Regions comprises 11.7 and 15.6% the Iranian vespid fauna, respectively. Many species (48, 20.8%) are exclusively recorded from Iran and as yet there is no record of Received: these species from other countries. Bij het samenstellen van een lijst voor de rubriek ’leuke vangsten’ bleek deze te ben met alleen wel erg lang worden. Tevens ik niet zo gek op lijstjes maar vindplaats en datum! Despite the long history of study, we are still far from understanding how insect societies have evolved and how social cohesion in their colonies is maintained. Here we suggest inquiline social parasites of insect societies as an under-exploited experimental tool for understanding sociality. We draw on examples from obligate inquiline (permanent) social parasites in wasps, ants and bees to illustrate how these parasites may allow us to better understand societies and learn more about the evolution and functioning of insect societies. We highlight three main features of these social parasite-host systems - namely, close phylogenetic relationships, strong selective pressures arising from co-evolution, and multiple independent origins - that make inquiline social parasites particularly suited for this aim; we propose a conceptual comparative framework that considers trait losses, gains and modifications in social parasite-host systems. We give examples of how this framework can reveal the more elusive secrets of sociality by focusing on two cornerstones of sociality: communication and reproductive division of labour. Together with social parasites in other taxonomic groups, such as cuckoos in cooperative breeding birds, social parasitism has a great potential to reveal the mechanisms and evolution of complex social groups. -

Einleitung Über die Aculeatenfauna Bayerns wurde bislang keine Faunenliste veröffentlicht. Das Artenspektrum ist nur über diverse Arbeiten zu verschiedenen Familien zu erschließen, da die Roten Listen (Bayerisches Landesamt für Umweltschutz, [Hrsg.] 1992) nicht im Sinne einer Checklist die nicht gefährdeten Ar- ten mit aufführen. In Baden-Württemberg ist die Rote Liste der Wildbienen (Westrich et al., 2000) zu ei- ner Faunenliste ergänzt, in Thüringen sind eigene Faunenlisten erschienen (z. B. Wildbienen: Burger & Winter, 2001). Da es auch bei der Fortschreibung der bayerischen Roten Liste (Bayerisches Landesamt für Umweltschutz, [Hrsg.]) nicht möglich sein wird, die nicht gefährdeten Arten ebenfalls zu nennen, soll mit der vorliegenden Arbeit diese Lücke geschlossen werden. -
