Ms. Maverick (Shavano)

“I adopted Shavano, now Ms. Maverick, from Animal House Rescue 2 years ago. She was part of a litter of 9 puppies along with her mom, that came from southern Colorado.

She is the BEST dog ever! She loves the snow, running and knows about 25 tricks, including sneezing on command, and has so much character, as you can see in the picture. Thank you for choosing me to be her “dog mom”!”

As with most shelters, adoption fees cover just a small percentage of our operating costs. Shelters need strong donor-support programs to operate successfully, and Animal House, relying on support from grants, annual fundraisers, and donations, is no exception. Through workplace matching gifts and our monthly donor program, The Furlanthropy Club, and by participating in the Colorado Combined Campaign and Federal Combined Campaign, we are able to save more dogs and puppies every year. Since our founding, volunteer foster care homes open their hearts to adult dogs and puppies that need a temporary space, and time, to recover, grow, and work on manners until their forever family comes along. Each unique and dedicated foster family has provided life-saving time and care for these dogs, and for that, Animal House and the animals in our care are forever grateful! Thank you to our 2018 foster care families who help save lives!

Many animals that we care for have had little to no veterinary or nutritional care. By becoming a monthly donor (for a minimum of just $10.00 a month), supporters are helping to give safe housing, quality food, important medical care, and the hope to be loved.

It’s hard to believe that 2018 has come and gone. At Animal House, it marked another year of wagging tails entering our door in need and leaving through them with the families who will cherish them forever. We celebrated our first full year in our new home on Taft Hill Road and we provided 758 second chances to dogs in need. Our team worked together to update cleaning schedules, animal care processes, and veterinary proto- cols. While not exciting topics to many in and of themselves, they are important parts of our daily lives and the animals we care for. These improvements along with our new facility have resulted in happier, healthier animals. Most remarkably we saw a 34% decrease in upper respiratory infections (commonlknown as kennel cough). By providing a healthier environment for the dogs in our care they spend less time in the shelter system, thus making their way to their forever homes quicker.

When I look back on 2018, it is with profound satisfaction. We’ve learned, we’ve grown and we’ve saved lives. It is thanks to our team of donors, supporters, volunteers, fosters and staff members who are dedicated to providing second chances that we are able to impact so many lives year after year. With your continued partnership, we anticipate continued success in saving the lives of those who need us Ruby, Luka most.

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about our accomplishments and achievements in 2018. & Oliver

With endless gratitude, “These are three siblings that were adopted from Animal House, I own the brown one. Ruby and I met Luka at the dog park one day and they im- mediately remembered each other and started playing. I started talking to her owner to discover Ali Eccleston that they are siblings!! It turned out she had kept Executive Director & Co-Founder in touch with one of the other siblings, Oliver. So today, a few days away from their 1st birthday, we got them together for a little puppy party and they had a blast!!! Ruby was formerly Pocky and Luka was formerly Macaroon.”
