CEO and Whistleblower In 2011, Briton Michael C. Woodford, a 30-year veteran of Olympus Corporation, became the first non-Japa- nese person to be named CEO of the company. He became a central figure in the Olympus scandal after he questioned sizable fees that Olympus had paid to hide losses from securities investments. Woodford was fired in October 2011, just two weeks into his role as CEO. Olympus officials later admitted to paying fraudulent advisory fees in a decades-long cover up.
