Good afternoon and welcome back to College Meadow and today's opponents Caister FC who remain unbeaten this season and are sure to offer our hardest game of the season so far. We wish them an enjoyable afternoon and a safe trip home. A brief note of commiseration to the Reserves who lost narrowly to Woodbridge Town in the Senior Reserve Cup Final, the game could have gone either way with the woodwork at both ends being struck several times. The young side are a credit to the Club and are already pushing hard to be near the top of their league. Please ensure you help us to comply with the current restrictions by registering your attendance by QR code or by simply signing in. Please do not gather in large groups and do spread yourselves around the ground to ensure everyone's safety, sorry to labour the point but it is essential we continue to do all we can so that we can continue to have football with spectators. www.pce-group.com Managers Update…..

Good afternoon every and a very warm welcome to all those associated with Caister FC. They will be coming to us full of confidence having made an excellent start to the season, so we know we will have to be fully at it this afternoon. We have excellent news and a big boost to the squad with the welcome return of Joe Clark. Joe has been out of action for 20 months with an ACL injury and returned last week when he came on against Mundford for the last 20 minutes. It's obviously going to be several weeks before we see him back to his best but we are just buzzing to have him back playing. Transfer Deadline Day was a busy one for the club as we secured the signings of Tom Harmer and Andrew Fulcher. Both are former players of the club so we know a lot about them and we are delighted to get these back with us as we know they are quality players and will improve our squad. I know all the lads are excited about seeing the return of both Tom and Andrew and I'm sure both will have a successful time with us. Unfortunately we go in today with several key players unavailable due to injury. Today's match is too much of a risk to include Luke Bailey, Max Wall and Andy Mutimer who are all carrying hamstring injuries and we are still missing long term absentees Ryan Newman and Steve Bee. We are in a much better position now to try to fill the gaps these players have left and we will see this afternoon where our squad is at as we try to compete with most certainly one of the better teams in the league. I hope you all enjoy the game , Up the Town Gaven Tipple - First Team Manager

Caister were formed in 1908 at a meeting in the old school hall. The first nickname of the football club was the “Rabbits” as the old pitch was on a rabbit warren on Caister beach, near the site of the Never Turn Back pub just off Beach Road. Today the clubs current nickname is the “Lifeboatemen” after Caister’s most famous service and motto ‘Caister Men never Turn Back’. The moto is more commonly seen these days across social media as #CMNTB. Caister were one of the founder members of the Great Yarmouth and District League and for 60 Years were one of the most competitive and successful teams in Norfolk, competing in the Great Yarmouth League and Norfolk Primary cup including finishing runners up on three occasions in The Wiltshire Cup. In the mid 60’s Caister joined the Anglian Combination as the club expanded along with a village. The 1st team moved up through the leagues to the 2nd Division where they resided for 20 years. Throughout the 90’s Caister had five adult sides made up of the 1st team, Reserves, A Team, B Team on Saturdays and a Sunday side. Even though there has been a decline in grass roots football, Caister still operates three adult sides, which makes them one of the largest adult clubs in the county. In the 2006-2007 season Caister 1st team won the Norfolk Junior Cup, with a dramatic last minute goal by Lee Snowling, which saw them beat Mattishall Reserves 1-0 at Carrow Road, the home of Norwich City FC. This was the first major trophy in the clubs history. The following season Caister 1st team finished runners up in the Cyril Ballan league cup at Trafford Park, narrowly losing 1-0 to Corton FC. The 06/07 and 07/08 cup runs gave the club a platform to progress. In the 2008- 2009 season Caister 1st team were promoted to division 1 of the Anglian Combination, under the guidance of Paul Brooking. This saw the club reach Senior football status for the first time in its 100 year history. Caister Reserves under the management of Scott Hansell enjoyed a historic hattrick of promotions, from 2004 they rose from Anglian Combination division 6 to division 3. In recent years both the 1st team and Reserves have enjoyed further success. In the 2012-2013 season Adam Mason and David Thompson guided the 1st team to runners up in division 1 and earned automatic promotion to the Anglian Combination Premier division. Whilst Danny Parker achieved back to back promotions for the Reserves taking them from division 4 in the 2012-2013 season to division 2, where they currently reside as one of the highest “reserve” sides in the whole league. The 1st team reached the Mummery Cup Final in the 2015-2016, where Danny Parker and David Thompson’s side narrowly lost 1-0 to Spixworth FC at the FDC Bowthorpe. In recent years the club has continued to progress on and off the field, with the introduction of new Chairman and former player Alan Peace. The Allendale has seen significant improvement, which has also been reflected on the pitch, with the 1st team narrowly missing out on winning the Premier division in 2018/2019, finishing runners up to Sheringham FC. Caister FC kick started their 2019/2020 campaign with an impressive 6-0 victory over UEA in the Don Frost Memorial Cup at the FDC Bowthorpe and were sitting in 8th place in the league when the season was halted. Last Saturday’s League Round-Up…..

We start last weeks round up with a postponed match as Harleston Town were due to play Waveney but with a Covid scare Waveney called off so it left Harleston having not played in two weeks as the previous Saturday their match was called off due to a water logged pitch. The games that actually took place produced over 25 goals and we start with the match that produced 7 of them…. Norwich CEYMS made the trip to Bradenham Wanderers which is always a tough place to go but they enjoyed the trip this season running out 6 –1 winners. Darrell Delaney came off the bench to get a brace and there was a goal each for Matthew Adcock, Jack Guyton, Kelvin Haywood and William Stenner. The Bulldogs goal was scored by Joel Brien. Long Stratton welcomed Acle United and got their first points of the season with a comfortable 3-0 win. Goals from Ryan Tebble and Aaron Taylor on his debut and a penalty from Luke Priestley saw Stratton home. Caister would have been pleased to overcome a hard working Scole United at the King George Playing Field by 2 goals to one. Ryan Hunt and Warren Nichols were the Lifeboatmen’s scorers on the day with Jake McDowall notching for Scole United. That results kept Caister top of the table. Second placed Dussindale & Hellesdon Rovers kept up the pace in second place with a local derby win over Thorpe St Andrew at the Nest. Rusian Stefanov and James Taylor getting the gaols for Dussindale. With Andrius Bonkas scoring for Thorpe St Andrew. Beccles Town made the longish journey to Mundford hoping keep their unbeaten run going but it was not to be with the home team running out narrow 2-1 victors. Jake Hodges and Harry Hutt scoring for The Stags and Liam Harvey-Cooper scoring for Beccles. UEA will have been delighted to get a game on Saturday after having the previous weeks game cancelled, and the two week break must have helped as they ran out 3- 0 winners over Blofield United. Yasha Najafi scored a brace after coming on as a substitute with Joshua Pond getting the other goal for the home team, all three goals came in the last 10 minutes of the match. During the week it was announced that Damien Didwell had resigned as Blofield Manager. The last match to look at was at Trafford Park where the young Yachtsmen of Wroxham welcomed Mattishall. It another close encounter it was the away team that took the points after inflicting a 2-1 defeat on the Reserves of Wroxham. Lewis Hart and Jorge Pascoal scored for Mattishall with Jordan King getting on the scoresheet for Wroxham. So all those matches leave just one team still without a point and that dubious honour goes to Bradenham Wanderers with Thorpe St Andrew sitting one point above them. At the top is is Caister with 4 wins out of 4 closely followed by Dussindale & Hellesdon Rovers on 10 points. Good luck to all teams this afternoon.
