Gr 1 K, S Outing to Sci-Enza A reminder to all parents that the Go-Kart Sponsorship Forms are legal Athletic Run-offs documents which will be audited and must be returned to school – even Cheetahs Field Events – Shotput if no sponsorships were obtained. These forms are all numbered and have been marked off against the learners’ names. The last day for Fri 14 SCHOOL CLOSES money and forms to be handed in is Monday, 3 June 2019. A fee will be charged for all lost forms. 1 UNIFORM for Grades R - 2 (Whole Year) Green Glenstantia golf-shirt (tucked in) School regulation green shorts White sports shoes with plain short white socks or Dark brown leather sandals without socks (not bronze, beige or gold) Dark green jersey or sleeveless v-neck pullover School tracksuit (worn in winter only – from Monday, 6 May to Friday, 30 August 2019) Green school hat – Compulsory for Grade R only and provided by the school WINTER UNIFORM for Grades 3 – 7 (from Monday, 6 May – Friday, 30 August 2019) Boys: School tracksuit The tracksuit is worn with a white long-sleeved shirt (tucked in), or khaki button-up short-sleeved shirt (tucked in), both with green school tie Dark green socks and black lace-up shoes A plain dark green, white or red scarf may be worn in winter OR: Long grey flannels, long-sleeved white shirt (tucked in) and school tie Dark green socks with black lace-up shoes Dark green jersey or sleeveless v-neck pullover Girls: Tartan skirt/Tartan skort. Length of skirt – maximum 5cm above the knee White long-sleeved shirt (tucked in) and green tie Long green socks and black shoes Dark green cardigan or jersey or sleeveless v-neck pullover A plain dark green, white or red scarf may be worn in winter OR: School tracksuit in place of the tartan skirt OPTIONAL: A dark green drimac may only be worn over the school jersey when it’s raining. PHYSICAL EDUCATION (PE) AND SPORTS PRACTICE UNIFORM for Grades 3 – 7 Boys and Girls: School regulation green shorts and a green Glenstantia golf shirt (tucked in), white sports shoes with short white socks. (Tracksuit is worn over PE uniform in winter.) Physical Education Uniform (PE) must be worn to school for the whole day on the day that learners have Physical Education. (Tracksuit is worn over PE uniform in winter.) Physical Education Uniform only available from the Tuck Shop, Mondays – Fridays, between 08:00 – 13:15 excluding break times. 2 Academics PROMOTION REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADES 4 – 6 Please note the promotion requirements for Grade 4 – 6 learners: Learners must pass all 3 these subjects with percentage criteria specified: Home Language (English) 50% or more First Additional Language (Afrikaans) 40% or more Mathematics 40% or more Learners must meet the following percentage criteria for other subjects: 40% or more in any 2 remaining subjects: Social Sciences; Life Skills; Natural Sciences and Technology. Should a learner fall short on any of the above percentage criteria for the specified subjects, they will not be promoted. PROMOTION REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADE 7 Please note the promotion requirements for Grade 7 learners: Learners must pass all 3 these subjects with percentage criteria specified: Home Language (English) 50% or more First Additional Language (Afrikaans) 40% or more Mathematics 40% or more Learners must meet the following percentage criteria for other subjects: 40% or more in 3 subjects 30% or more in 2 subjects Other subjects include: Social Sciences Technology EMS Life Orientation Natural Sciences Creative Arts Should a learner not achieve on any of the above percentage criteria for the specified subjects, they will not be promoted. 3 Maths Department. The South African Mathematics Challenge for Grade 4 - 7 learners is organised by the South African Mathematics Foundation (SAMF) in collaboration with the Association for Mathematics Education of South Africa (AMESA). The Challenge is intended as a vehicle to popularise Mathematics and to enhance the quality of teaching and learning of Mathematics. The Challenge is not a scholastic test but tests conceptual knowledge, the application of knowledge in new situations, problem-solving and general mathematical thinking, supporting our new curriculum to help our learners become empowered, independent, critical and creative thinkers. The belief is that Mathematics is accessible to all, not just a select few! On 14 May 2019, 140 (Grade 4-7) learners wrote the AMESA ROUND 1 competition. 80 learners qualified to enter the AMESA ROUND 2 competition which will take place on Thursday, 18 July 2019.
