4 The History of the Chidon

LIMUD HARAMBAM —the Rebbe instituted the takona of limud harambam ,(1984) תשד״מ In that every man, woman, and child learn Rambam daily. Three cycles were established: learn three perakim a day over the course of one year, learn one perek a day over the course of three years, or learn the mitzvos in Sefer Hamitzvos, which correspond to the three-perakim cycle. Through these INTERNATIONAL . כָ ל ההַתֹורָ כּולָ ה—cycles, a person would learn all 613 mitzvos SEFER HAMITZVOS INTERNATIONAL CHIDON a group of principals joined with Tzivos Hashem to start STUDY GUIDE ,(1995) תשנ״ה In the Chidon. The goal of the Chidon is to give every chayol the tools and motivation they need to fulfill the Rebbe’s takona, by encouraging them to CHIDON learn Sefer Hamitzvos in depth. • OVERVIEW • As the Chidon expanded and more schools joined, the program began following the Living Lessons Yahadus curriculum, sponsored in loving memory of Mrs. Sara Rohr, aleha hashalom. The curriculum divides the 613 mitzvos into five books, with children in grades fourth through eighth learning one book per year. Below is a chart that outlines which mitzvos each grade will be learning over the year, and which Yahadus book you will be using to study. At the end of five years, you will have covered all 613 mitzvos in depth.

7 Qualifying for Chidon

To enter the Chidon, there are three qualifying tests. If you pass all three tests, you may qualify—depending on your test scores and your school’s attendance policy—to join the Crown Heights Shabbaton, represent your school on the Chidon stage, and compete for the gold, silver, and bronze trophies in the Trophy Final.

THE TESTS INTERNATIONAL The chart below outlines the testing schedule, and which units you’ll need to learn SEFER HAMITZVOS for each test. STUDY GUIDE Test # Date 4th Grade

CHIDON Test #1 Tuesday, Chof Aleph Mar-Cheshvan Units 46-62 • OVERVIEW • (November 19) Test #2 Wednesday, Yud Aleph Teves (January 8) Units 63-80 Test #3 Monday, Chamisha Asar B’Shvat (February Units 81-99 10)

There are two parts to each of the three qualifying tests. Parts one and two are described below, so you’ll know what kinds of questions to expect, come testing day.

Part one • This part is a thorough, straightforward exam on the information you are responsible for knowing. It tests you on how well you remember the information you’ve learned. • If you score at least a 70% average on part one of all three tests, you may be eligible to participate in the Shabbaton, depending on your school’s attendance policy. You do not need to pass part two to be eligible for the Shabbaton. • During the Chidon Shabbaton, all qualifying chayolim will take the Chidon final (this too is a straightforward, yet thorough, exam on the entire Yahadus book). Chayolim who score at least 80% on the Chidon final will be awarded the Chidon plaque. Chayolim who score at least 90% on the Chidon final will be awarded the Chidon plaque and the Chidon medal.

Part two • This part tests you on how well you know and understand the information. Some questions will “scramble” different details, challenging you to remember them correctly, even when they’re in a different context. You will also be challenged to connect ideas from different units, or sections within the same unit, and apply your understanding of concepts, by answering questions that aren’t directly answered in the book. Make sure to study carefully.

8 • If you score at least a 70% average on part one of all three tests, and at least a 70% average on part two of all three tests, a new average will be calculated by combining all your scores from both parts of all three tests (six scores in total). This new average will become your new score. If in this new score, you score the highest in your grade, at your school, you may be eligible to represent your school on stage at the Chidon event, and compete for the gold, silver, and bronze trophies by taking the “Trophy Final”—depending on your school’s attendance policy. The “Trophy Final” is a very challenging test on the whole Yahadus book, taken by all school representatives, during the Chidon Shabbaton. The climax of the Chidon is when the Trophy Final winners are announced. The INTERNATIONAL chayolim who earn the highest marks within each grade on the “Trophy Final” are SEFER HAMITZVOS awarded the Chidon trophies. First, second, and third place winners will receive beautiful gold, silver, and bronze trophies, respectively. STUDY GUIDE As with the Shabbaton, your school is responsible for selecting the representative for each grade (the chayol who has the highest score in his or her grade). CHIDON • OVERVIEW • Tiebreakers: Included on your third test will be “tiebreaker” questions. These questions are only marked in the case of a tie. In the case that two chayolim in your grade tie as the highest-scoring in your school, these questions will be marked and taken into account, to determine the winner.

Chidon Shabbaton

The Chidon Shabbaton takes place in Crown Heights, beginning on a Thursday. The Shabbaton is an incredible four-day program, packed with amazing trips, delicious meals, fun activities, and exciting competitions. Chayolim go to the Ohel, daven in 770, and participate in inspiring farbrengens. The Shabbaton culminates in the grand Chidon event on Sunday.

DATES: • Girls’ Shabbaton: Thursday, Chof Gimmul Adar (March 19) – Sunday, Chof Vov Adar (March 22) • Boys’ Shabbaton: Thursday, Aleph Nissan (March 26) – Sunday, Daled Nissan (March 29)

REGISTRATION DEADLINE Shabbaton Registration opens on Wednesday, Yud Zayin Shvat (February 12). Registration and payment information must be submitted before Thursday, Chof Hey Shvat (February 20) at 11:59 p.m. We apologize in advance that there will be no exceptions. As previously mentioned, you do not need to pass part two of the tests to be eligible for the Shabbaton. However, your school will make the final decision about the number of children that are going to the Chidon Shabbaton.

11 MITZVAH NAMES You are required to be familiar with the names of the mitzvos in Hebrew. You do not need to know the names of mitzvos by heart, but you do need to be able to recognize them. All tests and quizzes will refer to the names of the mitzvos in Hebrew. Mitzvah names will not be translated.

TRANSLATION OF MITZVAH NAMES You are required to know the English translation of the mitzvah names—the words directly beneath the name in Hebrew. INTERNATIONAL SEFER HAMITZVOS SYNOPSIS OF THE MITZVAH STUDY GUIDE You are required to know the synopsis of the mitzvah—the words directly above the icons.

CHIDON ICONS • OVERVIEW • To whom it applies; where it applies; when it applies; punishments You are required to know the icons for each mitzvah. The icons are the circles at the bottom or the side of the mitzvah boxes, with the information regarding whom, where, and when the mitzvah applies, as well as the applicable punishment for transgressing the mitzvah. You need to be very familiar with the icons of each mitzvah on its own, as there will be many questions asking about these details. You need to train yourself to identify each mitzvah individually, and not just as part of a unit.

DETAILS You are required to know all the details of each unit. Pay special attention to which details apply to which mitzvah, because mitzvos are grouped together in units, and it can be hard to identify which details are for which mitzvah. (As you’re studying, try asking yourself questions about the “who, what, when, where, and how?”)

SELECTED HALACHOS; WHAT ELSE COMES FROM THIS MITZVAH? Even though you are not responsible for these sections, it is strongly recommended that you learn them, as they contain many practical halachos that give a better understanding of the mitzvah.

RELEVANT TERMS You are required to know all Hebrew terms and concepts that appear in the sections of the book that you are responsible for. To help with translations, Chidon Headquarters has put together a glossary of Hebrew terms for each book, found in this Chidon Learning Guide. However, the glossary does not list all the words that the you are responsible for knowing. It is your responsibility to make sure you know and understand all Hebrew terms and concepts— including those not listed in the glossary.

12 THIS CHIDON STUDY GUIDE You are required to read this study guide. You are responsible to know all the information outlined in the guide. Changes have been made to the Yahadus books since they were printed, and you are responsible for knowing all of the changes listed in this learning guide. The section with the book changes also lists specific parts of the book that you are not responsible for knowing, and includes replacements for some sections of the books—which the you must know. This guide also contains many other important resources, such as glossaries of key terms, spreadsheets for you to fill out the fundamentals of each mitzvah, and INTERNATIONAL practice questions (complete with answer keys). SEFER HAMITZVOS STUDY GUIDE MYSHLIACH CLASSES Every year, MyShliach offers online classes covering Chidon material, for CHIDON shluchim’s children in remote areas. These kids don’t have access to a • OVERVIEW • Lubavitch education, and these online classes make it possible for them to join in the International Chidon Sefer Hamitzvos competition. This year, MyShliach is happy to open these classes to any participating chayol.

Registration To register for the online classes, please ask your parents to visit MyShliach. com/ChidonClasses. Once your parents have entered your information, scheduling and teacher information will be made available to your parents.

Schedule The classes take place weekly at 8:00-9:00pm, accommodating time zones across the USA. Each grade’s class takes place on a different day. There are separate classes offered for boys and girls.

Material Two units are covered during each class. Every class is recorded. A spreadsheet of links to the recordings is made available upon registration. The classes are scheduled to ensure you finish the material required before the date of each test.

Studying The class is intended to teach you the essence of each unit. In order for you to master the material, you also need to review units on your own during the week, as well as study additional details that may have been missed out during the class.

13 How to Study for Chidon

VISION Children who care about the Mitzvos, and are passionate to know and understand them are a true Nachas to all. Their passion and excitement inspires their peers, parents, teachers, and all who meet them. It is our dream that you should be such a child. We want to help you live the learning with an inner Chayus, and feel the deep pleasure and satisfaction that comes INTERNATIONAL from working very hard. This will, bez”H, leave you with a lasting geshmak SEFER HAMITZVOS in learning Rambam and in learning in general, and will hasten the coming of Moshiach, the time when we will be able to actually fulfill all 613 Mitzvos of STUDY GUIDE the Torah! May it be immediately, now! Chidon learning is a big commitment that needs a strong drive and self- CHIDON discipline. The following guidance has been tried and tested with real • OVERVIEW • students and has B”H shown to be successful. Nevertheless, everyone has a different learning style, and we encourage you to adapt the guidance presented here to your individual needs. Remember, the main and most ,ויגעת important thing is your dedication and constant hard work; if you do .finding success ,ומצאת working hard, you will reach We wish you Hatzlachah Rabbah Umuflagah in your learning, and may you give continued Nachas to Hashem, the Rebbe, your parents, teachers, and all of Klal Yisroel. May your learning be the action that will tip the scales and bring the complete Geulah with the coming of Moshiach, now!

HOW TO LEARN A UNIT Note: What follows applies to all students regardless of whether their aiming for part 1 or part 2 (aside for where it says “Those who are aiming for Part 2:”)

General: • Make a schedule. In the first rounds of learning, plan to learn one unit per day (occasionally, you can add to the amount of material). Once you are in the ‘review’ stage, you can add to the amount of units you review at one time. • Before starting the unit, the study guide should be consulted and all information marked directly into your book. • Changes: write it directly into the proper place. Idea: If it’s a long change, print the page from the study guide PDF (found online), and cut out the change and paste into the book. • Not responsible: note it in the book by that section. • Replacement pages: staple replacement pages by the Unit it replaces.

14 There are three general steps to studying: 1. Reading the information to become familiar with it on a basic level. 2. Learning the information to comprehend and thoroughly understand it. 3. Reviewing the information to remember it well.

Reading the information to become familiar with it on a basic level. • Read through each unit inside – saying it out loud. • Start from the beginning, including the Mitzvah Boxes. • Students are responsible to know the ‘Who’, ‘Where’, and ‘When’ regarding a mitzvah. This information is indicated through the different icons in the INTERNATIONAL book . SEFER HAMITZVOS • After studying each unit, fill out the accompanying spreadsheet STUDY GUIDE This is the time to ask for the meaning of any word you do not understand. (Some people prefer to read all the units for the test first, before moving on CHIDON to to the learning stage; others prefer to read one unit and immediately move • OVERVIEW • on to the learning stage for that unit).

Learning the information to “get” and thoroughly understand it. After the reading stage, go through each unit in the following manner: 1. Read the unit, paragraph by paragraph in the same manner as in the reading stage (the first three pointers). After reading one paragraph, cover it with your hand and say it in your own words. Don’t summarize - say every detail. Sometimes, many details can be packed into a single paragraph, or even a single sentence. Make sure you breakdown the paragraph or sentence, and say each detail individually. • Pointers: • Stop by words that show Comparisons, Connections, and Differences. Say these things in full, not just the words it says in the book. Example: In book 4 unit 205, it states that all the Melachos that would disqualify a cow from being used for a Parah Adumah would disqualify a calf from being used for an Eglah Arufah. It is not enough to just say those words. You should say those words and then add: A Parah Adumah and Eglah Arufah bothhave X, Y, and Z. • Numbers. Say the number and the things in short. Only after listing them, say them in detail. Example: In book 2 unit 80, it lists eight kinds of injuries that make an animal a Treifah. Say them as follows: 1) Drussah 2) Nekuvah 3) Chaseirah etc. Then explain: 1) Drussah is ….. 2) Nekuvah is ….. 3) Chaseirah is .....etc.

Note: there are times that items or rules are listed but without numbering them or even mentioning the amount. It’s a good idea to count them, and learn them as if it was written with the number.

15 2. Remove your hand from the paragraph, and skim the text with your eyes to see if you missed anything. The better way to do the learning stage is to have someone else hold the book and listen as you say the paragraph in your own words, informing you afterwards of what you might have missed. Note: This is a very good way to do group learning. One student should read the paragraph, another should say it over in his/her own words, and a third student should say what details the second student missed. Bez”H this will train all of you in the group to focus on the details, and will give you all a sense of what good studying means.

INTERNATIONAL **This is the time to ask if you don’t understand what you are learning. SEFER HAMITZVOS Do not move on if you do not understand something. If you have trouble STUDY GUIDE remembering a certain section, you can either sit on it until you know it well or you can mark down that section and get back to it in the review stage.

CHIDON • OVERVIEW • 3. After going through each paragraph, go over the whole unit inside again, in one sitting.

Reviewing the information to remember it well. 1. Know the context of what you’re saying. Remember that the details you are reviewing are part of a bigger picture, and are not just isolated facts.

Example: In book 1 unit 38, it lists ten rules that must be followed when Tefillin are made, which were taught to Moshe Rabbeinu at Har Sinai and passed down to us through the Torah Sheba’al Peh. One of these rules is that the Tefillin straps must be black. When memorizing this rule, make sure you memorize it as one of the ten rules mentioned above; not merely as an isolated fact, that the Tefillin straps must be black. 2. Read each unit entirely. Avoid reading isolated parts of the unit. As stated above (#1), knowing the context of the information is crucial. 3. Put emphasis on those parts that you have difficulty remembering. Some ideas to help remember difficult details: • Highlight those details in the book • Write them on a post-it note and stick by that section in the book • Write your own notes of that section of the unit • Write those details into questions and answers to help you remember them • Turn those questions and answers into flashcards or games 4. Those who are aiming for Part 2: Read the entire unit, close the book and say it by heart. Afterwards, look in the book to see if you missed any details.

16 5. Charts and Spreadsheets: Memorize the charts in the books and the filled out spreadsheets and have someone test you on that material. Tips for memorizing the spreadsheet and charts: • Color code the Mitzvos. Suggestion: Mitzvas Asei in Green, Mitzvas Lo Sa’aseh in Red, and Mitzvah DeRabanan in Purple. • Color code those icons that don’t appear frequently, for easy identification and memorization (Note: this will not be helpful for books that have many alternating icons.) • Have someone test you on the Mitzvos and icons out of order (We suggest that you be tested on different icons for each Mitzvah, not all INTERNATIONAL the icons of one Mitzvah at a time. Example: to whom does Mitzvas SEFER HAMITZVOS Ahavas Hashem apply? Where does Mitzvas Ahavas Hager apply? The same applies for the charts in the book, have someone test you on the STUDY GUIDE different parts of the chart out of order. 6. Memorize. Memorize. Memorize. Memorizing is the foundation of CHIDON studying for Chidon once you have made sure to read and understand • OVERVIEW • everything. Success in Chidon depends on memorization. Make sure you memorize constantly, and you have someone to drill and test you. These two aspects are crucial to success in Chidon.

Pointers based on the above: • Read and make sure you know the Chidon overview in the study guide • Make sure you fully understand the study requirements and what you personally need to do to succeed • You will need to use a lot of your free time for studying • Set a significant amount of time every day to learn. We recommend a total of at least 3-4 hours a week, making sure to spread your studying across the week and not do it all in one day. You can use the calendar in the following pages to plan your schedule and document your progress. • Read and make sure you know all the book changes that are in the study guide • Read the book out loud • Focus on the details in the book • Ask any questions you have on the information right away, ensuring that you understand the material • Make sure you are familiar with all Hebrew names and terms mentioned throughout the sections you are required to know (even if those words are not listed in the glossary found in the study guide) • Review each unit numerous times • Look for people to constantly test you (beyond what is in the practice questions). The more you get drilled on the information, and from multiple angles, the more you will remember. • Make sure you fill out, learn, and review the Mitzvah spreadsheet very well

17 • Look for ways to help you study and remember the information • Don’t hesitate to ask for any help you may need

PREPARING FOR PART TWO The questions that will be asked on part two of the qualifying tests, and on the Trophy Final, are “thinking” questions, and require you to analyze and apply the information you’ve learned to new situations that aren’t directly discussed in the book. This may be different from what you are used to, so it is important that you prepare properly. Many questions will involve information about multiple mitzvos or even INTERNATIONAL multiple units. To prepare, it is strongly recommended that you train SEFER HAMITZVOS yourself to see similarities in mitzvos and halachos, and make lists grouping similar mitzvos or halachos together (for example: which mitzvos have the STUDY GUIDE punishment of malkus, apply only in Eretz Yisroel, are about avoda zora, etc.). Also, try to find situations where a person fulfills (or transgresses) more than CHIDON one mitzvah. • OVERVIEW • In general, this includes three types of questions. 1. Questions on multiple mitzvos or halachos Examples: • How many mitzvos has one fulfilled (or transgressed) for doing such- and-such an action? • For which of the following would one not receive malkus? 2. Multiple-choice questions All of the possible answers listed are from different units throughout the Yahadus book. You’ll have to think about each answer and decide which one applies to the question being asked. Try it out, and see if you can get the right answer! Below the question, you’ll see a list of units that explains where each possible answer came from. Use this as a tool when you’re checking your answer. Examples: ?for non-Jews to eat אסור What is • חֵ לֶ ב (c אֵ בֶ ר מִ ן הַ חַ י (a b) Blood d) All of the above In this case, option A is from unit 81, option B is from unit 82, and option C is from unit 83. 3. Questions that require you to apply multiple halachos you’ve learned, to determine the correct answer. Example: • Correct or incorrect: One who writes on yom tov with witnesses and proper warning receives the same punishment as one who writes on Shabbos with witnesses and proper warning. In this case you have to combine three separate halachos to come to

18 the answer: which may not be done on Shabbos may not be done on מלאכה Any • (except if required for eating) יום טוב סקילה on Shabbos is מלאכה The punishment for doing a forbidden • מלקות on Yom Tov is מלאכה The punishment for doing a forbidden • By combining these three Halachos, it becomes clear that one who writes on yom tov with witnesses and proper warning does not receive the same punishment as one who writes on Shabbos with witnesses and proper warning. My Chidon Study Schedule

Use these pages to plan the units you would like to learn each day in preparation for the tests, and to track your progress. By each date on the calendar there is space for you to write which unit(s) you want to study on that date, as well as a shaded area on the bottom where you can write how much time you spent studying on that date. Helpful Hints: INTERNATIONAL • Read the study training in the previous pages, so that you understand what SEFER HAMITZVOS learning and studying entails. B’ezras Hashem this will help you plan your study schedule for success. STUDY GUIDE • Set a significant amount of time every day to learn. We recommend a total of at least 3-4 hours a week, making sure to spread your studying across the week and not do it all in one day. • LEARNING • • Set a goal of how many units to study each week. SCHEDULE • Aim to finish learning all the units some time before the test, so that you have time for review. • Plan to review each unit many times. 34 Replacement Page for Yahadus Unit 66 This sheet starts from page 200, titled “Kiddushin.” Make sure to read the the first two paragraphs of details in the book

STAGE #1

This stage has two names: 1) kiddushin 2) eirusin Since both names refer to the same thing, they are interchangeable

This stage involves the man Min Hatorah Miderabanan giving something to the woman, and saying, “With this you are Money: The chassan The chassan gives the kallah at least a peruta of— ּכֶ סֶ ף mekudash to me.” gives the kallah at least one money or a ring. Min Hatorah, the man has three perutah (type of coin), or Therefore, nowadays the chassan gives the kallah options of what he could give something of equal value. ֲ רֵי האַּתְ מְקּודֶשֶ ׁת לִי ּבְטַּבַעַ תזֹו ּכְדַ ת מֹשֶ ׁה a ring, and says her. ,Behold, you are mekudash to me with this ring— ְ ו ִ י שְ ׂרָ אֵ ל Contract: The chassan— שְ ׁ טַ ר Miderabanan, there is only one writes, “You are Mekudash according to the custom of Moshe and (B’nei) Yisrael. right way to do kiddushin. to me” on any kind of writing material, and gives it to the kallah. :Being alone together— ּבִ י אָ ה The chassan and kallah go into a private room alone.

The man has to be the one giving and the woman the one receiving, not the other way around.

The woman must accept what the man is giving her in order to be mekudash.

The giving has to be in front of two witnesses.

Using A Messenger For Kiddushin/Eirusin

The Chachamim say that it’s The man may appoint a messenger to give the kiddushin to the woman on his behalf a greater mitzvah to do the The woman may appoint a messenger to receive the kiddushin from the man on her kiddushin by yourself rather behalf than use a messenger.

The Brachos

The order is as follows: Although usually the person who is doing the mitzvah makes The brachah of hagafen is said over the wine. the brachah, in this case the The brachah of kiddushin is made. chassan has someone else say the brachos for him. STAGE #2 – Nissuin

This stage is carried out through The husband covers the wife’s face with a cloth. The husband and wife stand under a cloth (a chuppah) while the brachos of kiddushin ּכְ ִ נ י סָ ה a special ceremony called .entering the Chuppah. are said—לְחּוּפָ ה The Gemara gives three The husband takes his wife into his home to be alone together. ּכְ ִ נ י סָ ה different opinions of what :can mean לְחּוּפָ ה

Nowadays we follow all three Bedeken—First the chassan covers his kallah’s face with a veil. opinions: Chuppah—Next they go stand under the chuppah where the chassan does the kiddushin. Going home—At the end of the ceremony, they go into a private room to be alone together.

The Kesubah

A document called the kesubah He will take care of his wife’s needs, according to the requirements set by halachah. is written before the chuppah. In His wife will receive money if he dies or divorces her. If this is her first marriage, she will it, the chassan writes: receive at least 200 dinar. If this is her second marriage, she will receive at least 100 dinar. (The chassan may add as much money as he wants to this minimum amount.)

Two acceptable witnesses must sign the kesubah.

Under the chuppah, after the chassan gives the kallah the ring, the kesubah is read out loud.

The chassan then gives the kesubah to his kallah.

36 The Brachos

After the kesubah is given to the kallah, the brachah of hagafen is made over a cup of wine.

Then six brachos of nissuin are said. Counting the brachah on the wine, there are a total of seven brachos—sheva brachos.

The brachos must be said in front of at least a minyan. The chassan counts as part of the minyan, so only nine additional men are needed.

Being Married

The Husband’s Obligations

Once married, the husband has Min Hatorah Miderabonon ten obligations towards his wife. Three are min Hatorah. Give her and their children Pay for her medical care. Seven are Miderabanan. as much food as he can Pay the ransom for her if she is kidnapped. afford. Pay for her burial. Support their daughters with his money until they marry or are 12.5 years old If she dies, her sons will inherit the money she was promised in her kesubah.

The Wife’s Obligations

Miderabanan, the wife must give Money that she earns from work. her husband the following: Any objects that she finds. If a woman owns property from before she was married, and is still earning money from that property, she will give that money to her husband. If she dies first, he inherits her possessions.

2012 329 First three Completely “Forbidden Limbs paragraphs rewritten We are forbidden to take a limb from a living animal and eat it. It makes no on the page difference what kind of limb it is—a leg, an ear, or even a small piece of the animal. Although we may not tear a limb off of any living creature, the actual prohibition of eivar min hachai only applies to the eating of the limb, not to the tearing of the limb. Also, the prohibition only applies to and birds; there is no difference between animals and birds for these halachos. Any limb taken off of a living animal for any reason is always considered eivar min hachai and may not be eaten. For example, an unhealthy limb that had to be cut off from an animal while it was still alive may not be eaten—even though the limb was cut off to help the animal, it is still forbidden. Even if the animal dies or is shechted soon after the limb was taken off, we are still not allowed to eat that limb. Bone or No Bone If the limb has a bone in it, like a leg, then one is only chayav for eivar min hachai if the entire limb was cut off at once—including the bones and sinews—and he eats at least a kezayis from it. If the entire limb wasn’t cut off and one eats from it, he’s not chayav for eivar min hachai, but he is still chayav for eating meat that is treifah (see Yahadus Unit 80). If the limb does not have a bone in it (like the tongue), one is chayav for eivar min hachai if he eats a kezayis, even if the entire limb wasn’t cut off at once.”
