Jantz Stadium (3,500) - Winfield, Kan. 2016 SOUTHWESTERN COACHING STAFF SOUTHWESTERN QUICK HITS -Southwestern and McPherson will meet on the football field for the 61st time Saturday evening with a 7 p.m. On the Field... kick-off scheduled at McPherson Stadium in McPherson. The Moundbuilders hold a 44-16 lead in the overall series -Brad Griffin (Head Coach) after a 33-7 win over the Bulldogs a year ago in Winfield. -Adam Kirby (Asst. Coach/Offensive Coordinator) -Jeff Kontz (Asst. Coach/Defensive Coordinator) -The winner of Saturday’s contest will bring a much-needed end to a long losing streak. For the Bulldogs, a win -Corey Gray (Asst. Coach/Strength & Cond./Def. Line) would mark the program’s first win since the final game of the 2014 season (Nov. 15), when McPherson defeated -Justin Price (Asst. Coach/Linebackers) the Moundbuilders by a 10-7 count as freezing drizzle formed a layer of ice over the McPherson Stadium turf. -SirDerrick Dotson (Asst. Coach/Wide Receivers) Southwestern, meanwhile, is looking for its first KCAC road win since the 2014 conference-opener, which resulted -Jessup Bliven (Student Asst. Coach/Defensive Backs) in a 45-10 Moundbuilder victory over Bethel on Sept. 10 in North Newton. Southwestern’s last win at McPherson came in the form of a 49-21 victory on Nov. 12, 2005. In the Press Box... -Victor Redd (Asst. Coach/Cornerbacks) -Brad Griffin became the 28th Head Football Coach in the 112-year history of the Southwestern College football -Brandon Owen (Asst. Coach/Running Backs) program prior to the 2015 season after spending 10 seasons as the Defensive Coordinator at William Penn Univer- -Ricky Higuera (Student Asst. Coach/Tight Ends) sity in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He helped turn the WPU program from one of the worst in the country into a perennial -Connor Seaba (Asst. Coach/Linebackers) contender in the Mid-States Football Association, and hopes to do the same at Southwestern. -The success of the 2016 Moundbuilder football program will depend largely on how quickly freshmen can mature into collegiate football players. A total of 58 freshmen will join 36 returning letterwinners, and 18 return- ing starters from a team that has experienced just four wins over the last two seasons. Head Coach Brad Griffin likes the talent he has brought to campus, but knows they need to grow up quickly to be a factor in the race for a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference title. McPHERSON VS.
