A Service of HOLY COMMUNION for Passiontide This service is during Lent and the liturgical colour is purple signifying a penitential season of the year. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and continues to Palm Sunday. It is a time to prepare ourselves for the great events of Holy Week and Easter Day. Beginning with the wilderness experience of Jesus, Lent is an opportunity for us to examine our own lives and experience in the light of the Gospel message of Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Before the service begins, you may like to use the time to sit quietly and prepare yourself to meet God in this act of worship. You may find the following words helpful. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those whom mourn, for they shall be comforted Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God. Blessed are those who suffer persecution for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 2 The Gathering In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. All Amen. The Greeting Grace, mercy and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ be with you All and also with you. Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by? Look and see if there is any sorrow like my sorrow. Lamentations 1:12 Prayer of Preparation All Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. At the end This is the Gospel of the Lord. All Praise to you, O Christ. The Creed Let us declare our faith in God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. All I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. 3 I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Prayers of Intercession At the end please respond Merciful Father, All accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen. Prayers of Penitence All Lord, we confess that we love our lives as they are. We struggle with even the idea of change. But we know that the life we cling to is only a half-life. We have set this out below:- Walks for Holy Week and Easter The Churches Together in Baildon invite you to take two ecumenical strolls this Easter time. Roy and Jean Lorrain-Smith have created two new prayer walks, one for Holy Week entitled the Graveyard Walk and the other for Easter week called the Easter Life Walk. Both are easy walking. In these covid times we cannot walk en masse, but we can walk with another person , and we would invite you to be paired for these walks with a member of a different church to your own.
