Later the town and the island were connected with the main land. Old town centre boasts with the rich architecture and cultural monuments.

The Pretorian palace with the gothic left wing and renaissance right wing features Ghibelline style merlons and a statue of Justice – it was the seat of the captains and podesta, of the Grand Council and the Appellation Court.

This ravine in the immediate vicinity of Gorje, approximately 4 km north-west of Bled, was discovered by Jakob Žumer, the Major of Gorje, and the cartographer and photographer Benedikt Lergetporer in February 1891. The discovery was accidental and took place at a time when the water level of the Radovna river which flows through Vintgar was very low. They started their exploration in and headed towards Blejska Dobrava. They made it through, the otherwise impassable ravine with great difficulty and discovered so much natural beauty that they decided to establish a construction committee. The gorge was arranged for visits, especially for visitors to Bled. It was opened to the public on 26th August 1893. The 1.6 km long Vintgar gorge carves its way through the vertical rocks of the Hom and Bort hills and is graced by the Radovna with its waterfalls, pools and rapids. The path leads you over bridges and Šumer’s galleries, and ends with a bridge overlooking the mighty 16 m high Šum waterfall. Due to its natural beauty, Vintgar was classified among the more important tourist sights in Slovenia and the number of visitors increases every year. From the Šum waterfall you can take the opportunity of walking up a picturesque footpath through Hom to St. Catherine-a historical church with a beautiful view. At the entrance, and at the Šum waterfall there are cafes serving refreshments. Access by car and buses is possible as far as the parking area in front of the entrance to the ravine.

Bled With immense natural beauty, Bled, together with its surroundings, ranks among the most beautiful alpine resorts, renowned for its mild, healing climate and thermal lake water. The beauty of the mountains reflected on the lake, the sun, the serenity and the fresh air arouse pleasant feelings in visitors throughout the year, guaranteeing an ideal base or a relaxing break or an active holiday. Bled attracts businessmen, artists, athletes, explorers, sport enthusiasts, the old and the young, from all over the world, enchanting them to return again and again.

The Bled lake with an island

The lake was formed after the recession of the Bohinj glacier. It is up to 2120 m long and up to 1380 m wide, its maximum depth being 30.6 m and tectonic in origin. After the last Ice Age, the Bohinj glacier deepened the natural tectonic hollow and gave into its present form. The basin was filled with water when the ice melted. The lake has no large natural tributaries; it is fed only by a few springs.

Ljubljana – the capital city of Slovenia Besides having everything that all the other modern capitals have, Ljubljana succeeded in maintaining the relaxed atmosphere of a small city. This picturesque and very vibrant city is full of surprises. The region that besides Ljubljana comprises 25 other municipalities is noted for its traditional hospitality, diverse nature, nice towns, castles, quality traditional restaurants and village churches with their rich artistic legacy.

The Central Slovenia is the place where the alpine and karst landscapes meet. Thus, various unique natural and cultural particularities were created. Some of these are the Ljubljana Marshes, an area of wetlands and peat bogs known for its prehistoric pile dwellers and for its rare animal and vegetal species, the high mountain plateau Velika planina situated in the Kamnik Alps, noted for its ski centre and for being the oldest dairy herdsmen’s settlement in Europe, interesting subterranean caves, karstic fields and the mysterious forests of the Polhov Gradec and Posavje hills that abound with tourist farms.

NOTE: Transport and organization is free, but entrance to Vintgar (3€) is payable. Meeting point: Titov square at 7:50

Boat Trip with fish picnic You are already after your exams, so you deserve a reward. Now is the time to forget about studying and enjoy your last days in Koper. This day we will voyage on a ship along Slovenian coast beginning from Koper and going past Izola and Strunjan to Piran, an old Mediterranean town that resembles a large open-air museum, with medieval architecture and a rich cultural heritage. Next to Piran is the tourist resort Bernardin and "hotel" town Portorož, port of roses. Observing the coastal towns from a "fish" perspective is quite an amusing experience.

The captain will make a stop to grill a tasty fish that you will enjoy with a glass of local wine. This will be a good occasion to swim in the open sea as well, so don’t forget to bring swimming suits and towels!

Piran is a town and municipality in south- western Slovenia on the Adriatic coast along the Piran Bay. The municipality has 16,758 (2002) inhabitants and covers a 46.6 km² area. The town has 4,576 (2002) inhabitants on a 1 km² area. The municipality is bilingual, both Slovenian and Italian are official languages. Piran is small town, with narrow streets and compact houses give the town its special charm. Piran is the administrative centre of the local area and one of Slovenia's major tourist attractions.

Vina Montis

In a wonderful small Istrian village Montinjan, with a gentle touch of the sea, Vina Montis produce, with love and respect for you, the treasures of the Istrian nature…

The wine cellar and our homestead is situated in the heart of the village and encompasses 6 hectares of scattered estate. Our family continues the tradition started by the great- grandfather. The oldest vineyard is more than 100 years old and the olive trees are of venerable age, too. The biggest and the oldest olive tree of them all proudly carries the name Koprčanka.

A big oil stone that has been in the family for a very long time and is over 250 years old is also a part of the tradition. It was a dowry of one of the women that was married in the Bordon family. Today our family has six members, three generations, and we all try our best to keep the tradition going.
