In our gospel, Jesus gives to us as example the parable of the ten virgins, five wise and five foolish. The wise virgins took advantage of the opportunity they had to serve the Master. The foolish ones squandered their time and did not get to enjoy the feast of bridegroom.

We tend to let certain opportunities slip and then find ourselves cramming. However, there is opportunity in our lives where we cannot assume that a better, more convenient time might be possible. There are truly important and central things in life that we must act upon when the opportunity presents itself: getting to know your children, healing divisions when they come up in our families, coming to realize the presence of God in our lives, are matters of immense urgency.

The Gospel tells us to make the best use of the time we have been given. Opportunities pass, they may never appear again. Remember, GOD IS GOD OF THE HERE AND NOW, OF THE PRESENT MOMENT. So, let us ask God today to help us transform our lives so we may make the best use of the time he gives us to bring his loving presence and joy to everyone.

Blessings, Fr. Vincent
