Il tallonatore più presente di tutti i tempi in maglia azzurra, 107 caps con la Nazionale, scrive la parola fine su una delle carriere internazionali più prestigiose in novant’anni di storia del nostro rugby, annunciando il ritiro dal palcoscenico dei test-match a 36 anni. Un ritiro che arriva a qualche mese di distanza da quello dal rugby giocato di Alessandro Zanni, compagno di infinite battaglie e di un numero inquantificabile di stanze d’albergo condivise con Calvisano, Benetton e Italrugby. Con l’addio del tallonatore padovano all’Italia si chiude idealmente un’epoca, quella della generazione di atleti nati nella prima metà degli Anni ’80 su cui mise gli occhi John Kirwan e che trovarono poi in Berbizier prima, in Nick Mallett poi gli allenatori della maturità sportiva: Sergio Parisse, lo storico capitano dell’Italia oggi al Tolone, è il solo ancora in attività del gruppo che volò a Marsiglia sul finire dell’estate 2007 per la Rugby World Cup francese che avrebbe posto le basi per il lustro successivo. Ripercorrere la carriera di Leonardo Ghiraldini vuol dire andare ben oltre le centosette partite in maglia Italia. Today we received a formal response from Minister of Sports, Arts & Culture, Mr Nathi Mthethwa, regarding the presenta�on made to government on behalf of golf. The Minister informed us that our proposal has been taken to the Na�onal Coronavirus Command Council (NCC) and we will immediately be informed of any outcome once a final decision has been made. In wri�en communica�on, the Minister acknowledged that golf “lends itself to social distancing” and that we presented a case worth taking to the Na�onal Command Council. This is a posi�ve step, and we urge clubs and golfers to remain pa�ent as the decision on when to reopen golf facili�es ul�mately remains in the hands of the NCC.

Si alza, dunque, con un esame probante il 2010, un anno in- tenso che vedrà il quindici di Nick Mallett impegnato, oltre che nel Sei Nazioni, nel tour estivo in Namibia e Sudafrica ed in tre test match autunnali con Argentina, Australia e Isole Figi. Una stagione, pertanto, ricca di appetitosi appuntamenti che dovrà, necessariamente, regalare sintomi e riscontri concreti sui costanti progressi che accompagnano il nostro movimento.
