Local Lettings Policy Statistics
1.0 Introduction
This Appendix sets out some key statistics in relation to the operation of the Local Lettings Policy and localities where the Policy applies.
2.0 Purpose of the Policy
The Local Lettings Policy was introduced to protect rural areas where there are increasingly fewer former Council owned houses and bungalows and a great need for such properties. These properties are not already governed by a Section 106 agreement. The purpose of the Policy is to assist in the sustainability of rural areas by ensuring that households with a local connection can remain in the area rather than move away. The 2011 Census figures show that there has been a significant decrease in working age households compared to the 2001 Census figures.
2.1 Coverage of the Policy
The Policy covers just under a third of South Lakes Housing’s housing stock (Table 1.1). The areas covered fall within Local Area Partnership areas as shown in Table 1.2. Table 1.2 also shows the relevant settlements where the Policy applies, how many properties the Policy applies to and how many local lettings there have been in 2012 – 2013.
