Daily Mileage: 0-12 km (0-7.5 miles). Bicycle from Perugia to Assisi DAY 2 Highlights Assisi, the town of Saint Francis Meals Breakfast Leave Perugia to enter the Umbrian Basin and arrive to Assisi. You'll want to explore the church of Saint Francis, the second most important pilgrimage destination in Italy after St. Peter's in Rome. If you arrive early you might enjoy an extra ride to the hermitage just outside the village where Francis often retreated for meditation. Assisi - Loop ride to Deruta and Torgiano DAY 3 Highlights Ceramics in Deruta and wine in Torgiano Meals Breakfast Your ride today takes you to Deruta where you can enjoy scores of ceramic studios. Deruta is one of the most important ceramics towns in all of Italy. Your route continues on to Torgiano, a major wine producer. Take time to explore and you'll find the 13th century town hall dominating the Renaissance town square. From Spello you pedal to Foligno another Roman town but with fewer Roman ruins. Enjoy lunch in the square and then head across the Umbria valley to Bevagna. Bevagna is the picture of a well-preserved Medieval village. It, too, dates from Roman times and is centered on the 13th century square and town hall. Unlike most Medieval towns, Bevagna is located on the flat of the Umbrian Basin. Mileage: 35 km (22 miles) Loop ride from Bevagna to Montefalco DAY 5 Highlights The Roman Via Flaminia, Trevi, and Montefalco Meals Breakfast Yesterday and today you will parallel the historic Via Flaminia, a Roman road, built in 220 BC by Consul Gaius Faminius. The road allowed Roman soldiers and their families access to the region around Rimini where they settled. With the road came all the Roman settlements and military garrisons in the area. Foligno and Spello were Roman towns while Trevi and Montefalco, our lunch destination, were Medieval towns that developed on nearby hills hundreds of years later. Take time to explore these hill towns as they capture the essence of Italy. A variety of routes allow access to the hills south of Montefalco. Plan on a picnic or restaurant lunch in the village, though as it affords a spectacular view across the entire Umbrian basin where you just spent two days cycling. (And plan to pick up a bottle of Sagrantino in Montefalco, one of Italy's most famous wines, for your dinner tonight.) Mileage: 45 km (28 miles) depending on how far you venture into the hills south of Montefalco.     Scacciadiavoli Montefalco Sagrantino Passito COUNTRY ABV Italy 14.5% REGION VARIETALS Wine Umbria Sagrantino Spectator APPELLATION 90 PTS DOCG Montefalco 2012 Sagrantino Passito WINERY Founded in 1884, Cantina Scacciadiavoli, “cast Antonio out the devils”, takes its name from a 19th Galloni century exorcist who lived in the small village 90 PTS bordering the vineyard. He was known to use the wines while performing his exorcist ritual of 2012 ridding poor souls of demons. The estate was built as a complex and modern wine “factory,” which today spans 130 hectares, 35 of which are vineyards. The vines cover a hill in the heart of the Montefalco appellation, divided between the three provinces of Gualdo Cattaneo, Giano dell’Umbria, and Montefalco. The winery consists of four vertical levels built into the hill, allowing for the use of gravity throughout production. The grapes arrive from the vineyards directly at the highest level then move down to the second level by gravity flow to be fermented and vinified in wood or stainless steel vats. The ground and underground floors are used to age the wines. The Pambuffetti family has owned and operated Scacciadiavoli since 1954 and produces annually approximately 250,000 bottles. The project is organised by the Mahler & LeWitt Studios and guest curator Dr Jo Melvin (Reader in Archives and Special Collections at Chelsea College of Arts, UAL, London), in collab- oration with Viaindustriae, Foligno. De Donno’s extensive collection of artists’ books begins with Italian Futurism and includes Fortunato Depero’s 1927 masterwork Depero Futurista. As well as books, Primo has contextualised his collection with related artworks, design objects, furniture and ephemera, creating a unique cultural map which facilitates research and teaching. The participants in the residency session – artists, curators, writers, publishers and designers – have spent time exploring the collection, as well as the cultural heritage of Spoleto. They present their research and works-in-progress as part of a pro- gram of events, exhibitions and performances in the concluding symposium and public program. In the final week the residents are joined by a dozen other participants who, having been introduced to Spoleto and the collections, will give presentations on their own related research and participate in events. In the spirit of the Mahler & LeWitt Stu- dios program, the sessions in the final week are intended to be open, discursive and research-led, providing an opportunity for participants to share work with peers and to receive feedback in an en- gaging and critical environment.

Natural radioactivity was 30 30 characterized by means of gamma spectroscopy measurements performed by 20 adopting complementary survey methodologies, namely rock and soil San Giustino sampling, together with airborne gamma ray surveys. Referring to the Geological Database provided by the Geological Regional Service and based 50 on a 1:10000 scale survey, the 214 Cartographic Units (CUs) were divided into two groups: Deposits sensu lato (s.l.), comprising the 118 CUs corresponding i 2 0 3 20 0 Vasch to quaternary deposits and loose geological formations, and Rocks s.l., 30 20 consisting of 96 CUs of rocky geological formations.
