Geologically, Serifos belongs to the Attic-Cycladic massif and the island is largely dominated by a Late Miocene shallow-level I-type granodiorite pluton in the central and SE portion of the island. The pluton intruded into mylonitized orthogneisses, amphibolites, schists, calc-silicates, marbles and marble meta-conglom- erates. Because the host-rocks near the largely undeformed granodiorite pluton contain weakly deformed Ca-Fe-Mg high-temperature skarns, Fe-ores and extensive hydrother- mal alteration, the intrusion has been generally considered to be post-tectonic. Although the granodiorite intrusion clearly crosscuts the regional metamorphic fabric, the uppermost structural levels of the granodiorite, together with its host-rocks, are strongly overprinted by networks of greenschist-facies to cataclastic shear zones that record a notably consistent stretching lineation direction, associated with non-coaxial SSW-directed shear. The immediate host-rocks near the intrusion are mainly mylonitic orthogneisses and amphibolites that were highly deformed at temperatures > 450 °C. -

Contemporary Kinematics of the South Aegean Area (Greece) Detected with Continuous GNSS Measurements Vassilis Sakkas, Chrysa Doxa, Andreas Tzanis, and Haralambos Kranis National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, Department of Geology and the Geoenvironment, Athens, Greece ([email protected]) We examine the kinematic characteristics of the crustal deformation in the broader southern Aegean region using 47 permanent GNNS stations distributed across the eastern Peloponnesus, Attica, Cyclades, Dodecanese, Crete and the coast of western Anatolia. Our analysis is based on the study of velocity vectors relative to local reference points at the western and eastern halves of the study area, as well as on the strain field calculated from absolute velocity vectors across the study area. We demonstrate that the South Aegean region undergoes complex distributed block deformation. At the eastern end of the study area this varies from N210°-N220° extension and with crustal thinning across NE Peloponnesus – Attica, to N210°-N220° compression between the central- eastern Peloponnesus and western Crete, both consistent with the geodynamic setting of the Hellenic Subduction System. A principal feature of the S. Aegean crust appears to be a broad shear zone extending between the islands of Samos/Ikaria and Kalymnos, Paros/Naxos and Amorgos and Milos – Santorini; It exhibits left-lateral kinematics and its southern boundary appears to coincide with the Amorgos – Santorini ridge and comprise the Anhydros basin and associated volcanic field (including Columbo and Santorini). -

G EORGIADIS The island of Folegandros, located between the Milos and Santorini archipelagos in the southern Kiklades (Greece), constitutes together with Ios and Sikinos the south-central part of the phytogeographical region of the Kiklades. Its flora consists of 474 taxa, 47 of which are under statutory protection, 40 are Greek endemics and 145 are reported here for the first time. We show that Folegandros has the highest percentage of Greek endemics in the phytogeographical area of the Kiklades. The known distribution of the endemic Muscari cycladicum subsp. cycladicum is expanded, being reported for the first time outside the South Aegean Volcanic Arc. The floristic cross-correlation between Folegandros and other parts of the phytogeographical region of the Kiklades by means of Sørensen’s index revealed that its phytogeographical affinities are stronger to Anafi Island than to any other part of the Kiklades. The Cult of Apollo Pythios and Delios in the Cycladic Archipelago and the Domain of the Sea
The Cult of Apollo Pythios and Delios in the Cycladic Archipelago and the Domain of the Sea Erica Angliker *** Widely worshipped in the Cycladic archipelago, the god Apollo was the patron of multiple sanctuaries and was venerated here under various epicleses such as Karneios, Patroos, Aiglets, Delios and Pythios. While the cult of Apollo Delios beyond the island of Delos is to be expected in the Cycladic world, that of Apollo Pythios comes as a surprise to some scholars and requires deeper examination. In this paper, I look at the dissemination of Apollo Delios and Pythios in the Cyclades by considering the various functions that these two divinities served as patrons of different aspects of maritime life in the archipelago. I show that while the cult of Apollo Delios was linked to the god’s power to ensure safe travel and disembarkation, that of Apollo Pythios was related to success in sea battles. I begin with a map of the Cyclades in which all the islands that hosted the cult of Apollo Pythios and Delios – as can be gleaned from literary sources, inscriptions and archaeological materials – are demarcated. The map indicates the location of each sanctuary within the spatial boundaries of its island’s polis, and identifies the mythological narratives associated with the god. Afterwards, I closely examine each sanctuary of Apollo Pythios and Delios in the Cyclades, paying special attention to those located on the islands of Paros, Naxos, Amorgos, Thera, Ios, Delos, Sikinos, and Kea, for which there is enough archaeological evidence to construct a general overview of Apollo’s roles under these two epicleses in different aspects of maritime life in the region. -

It is designed by the local community, for the local community. Starting from an examination of the current dynamics on the island, the Clean Energy Transition Agenda spells out a vision of the island that is shared by the members of the island community. The perspectives of different island stakeholders are aligned to work towards this common vision by identifying possible pathways, including common goals and effective strategies. This Island Clean Energy Transition Agenda for Sifnos was developed jointly by the Sifnos Island Cooperative and the Municipality of Sifnos, with the support from the schools of Sifnos, the Port Authority of Sifnos and the Agriculture Cooperative of Sifnos. It was co-authored by the Clean Energy for EU Islands Secretariat who facilitated the writing of the document and provided some technical advice. This document is the first version of the Clean Energy Transition Agenda for Sifnos which describes the current context in the island. It illustrates the strategies developed by the transition team to accelerate the energy transition. In case of new decisions agreed within the transition team, some modifications could be done at a later stage. The Clean Energy for EU Islands Secretariat is an initiative on behalf of the European Commission aimed at catalysing the clean energy transition on EU Islands.
