It is designed by the local community, for the local community. Starting from an examination of the current dynamics on the island, the Clean Energy Transition Agenda spells out a vision of the island that is shared by the members of the island community. The perspectives of different island stakeholders are aligned to work towards this common vision by identifying possible pathways, including common goals and effective strategies. This Island Clean Energy Transition Agenda for Sifnos was developed jointly by the Sifnos Island Cooperative and the Municipality of Sifnos, with the support from the schools of Sifnos, the Port Authority of Sifnos and the Agriculture Cooperative of Sifnos. It was co-authored by the Clean Energy for EU Islands Secretariat who facilitated the writing of the document and provided some technical advice. This document is the first version of the Clean Energy Transition Agenda for Sifnos which describes the current context in the island. It illustrates the strategies developed by the transition team to accelerate the energy transition. In case of new decisions agreed within the transition team, some modifications could be done at a later stage. The Clean Energy for EU Islands Secretariat is an initiative on behalf of the European Commission aimed at catalysing the clean energy transition on EU Islands. The Secretariat is managed by Climate Alliance, REScoop.eu and 3E, and collaborates with a wide range of local stakeholders, authorities, academia and citizens. Geography, Economy & Population Geographic Situation Sifnos Island is part of the Cyclades island group, in the region of South Aegean Sea in Greece. Sifnos is located around 130 km from Athens mainland which represent a journey of around 3 to 5 hours. Figure 1 Localisation of Sifnos at the country level Taken from Google Maps Sifnos has an area of 74 km², it is about 15 km long and 7.5 km wide, and it has a shoreline of 70 km. More than 25% of Sifnos territory belongs to the Natura 2000 European Network of Nature Protection Areas. In addition, the traditional Cycladic architecture and the environmental and cultural wealth of the island have led to Sifnos being a Landscape of Outstanding Natural Beauty since 1976. 5 Clean Energy Transition Agenda Sifnos Island Figure 2 Map of Sifnos Taken from Google Maps Its permanent population is 2,625 of which 438 are students, one of the highest per capita ratio in Greece. During high season, in July and August, the population peaks up to 16,000 with the tourist visitors. Other challenges besides the lack of clean energy as mentioned by different local stakeholders are: basic medical care (no general practitioner), sewage and waste water treatment, solid waste management, availability of drinking water, high energy consumption of public lighting and low quality of road infrastructure. Despite of the economic crisis in Greece bilateral trade between these two countries almost doubled for the last five years. Energy and minerals are significant part of this trade and it is expected that natural gas will be one of the most important determinants of the bilateral trade. The energy products trade is two sided and creates strategic meaning for both countries. This chapter analyzes energy markets in Greece and Turkey separately and the Greek-Turkish relations in terms of energy. Completed natural gas pipeline of 296 km connects Turkey and Greece and delivers natural gas of Azerbaijan to Europe. There are several planned or under construction projects that connect Turkey and Greece. Within the sprawling city of Athens it is easy to imagine the golden age of Greece when Pericles had the Parthenon (the most eminent monument of the ancient Greek architecture) built. Athens is built around the Acropolis and the pinnacled crag of Mt. Lycabettus, which the goddess Athena was said to have dropped from the heavens as a bulwark to defend the city. Te suburbs have covered the barren plain in all directions and the city is packed with lively taverns and bustling shops. Cyclades - Greece 5 Kea An exceptionally picturesque island. On the south side of Nikolaos Bay - which was a pirate stronghold in the 13th c. - is the little port of Korissia, built on the side of ancient Korissia. Tere are remains of the ancient town walls and a Sanctuary of Apollo. Te famous lion - carved from the native rock in the 6th c. BCE - can be seen just north-east of Kea town. Another highlight is the beautiful anchorage of Poleis.

Geologically, Serifos belongs to the Attic-Cycladic massif and the island is largely dominated by a Late Miocene shallow-level I-type granodiorite pluton in the central and SE portion of the island. The pluton intruded into mylonitized orthogneisses, amphibolites, schists, calc-silicates, marbles and marble meta-conglom- erates. Because the host-rocks near the largely undeformed granodiorite pluton contain weakly deformed Ca-Fe-Mg high-temperature skarns, Fe-ores and extensive hydrother- mal alteration, the intrusion has been generally considered to be post-tectonic. Although the granodiorite intrusion clearly crosscuts the regional metamorphic fabric, the uppermost structural levels of the granodiorite, together with its host-rocks, are strongly overprinted by networks of greenschist-facies to cataclastic shear zones that record a notably consistent stretching lineation direction, associated with non-coaxial SSW-directed shear. The immediate host-rocks near the intrusion are mainly mylonitic orthogneisses and amphibolites that were highly deformed at temperatures > 450 °C.

    Sikinos La guida è stata realizzata grazie alla collaborazione dei soci: Rino e Lucia Cappelletto, Wanda Benati, Andrea Della Santa e Claudio Paoloni. 43 Kmq di superficie. Cinque km di larghezza massima per 14 km di lunghezza. Circa 250 abitanti vivono tutto l'anno sull'isola. Una solo strada collega Allopronia (il porto nella foto) con la Chora. E' in costruzione un'altra strada, larga otto metri e costruita con i fondi messi a disposizione dalla Comunità Europea. Arriva quasi ad Episcopi. L'isola è prevalentemente rocciosa con coste a picco nella parte occidentale. Il monte Troulos (600 m di altitudine) , nel mezzo dell'isola è la cima più alta. La parte collinare è coltivata a grano, ulivi e vite. Pare che il nome dell'isola derivi dal greco antico, INOS (vino). Un'altra risorsa è la pastorizia. Risulta invece trascurata la pesca. Dov'è ? Dal Pireo ci vogliono circa 10 ore di navigazione per raggiungere l'isola. Sulla linea delle Cicladi occidentale è collegata quasi giornalmente con Ios e Folegandros (sette chilometri, mezz'ora di navigazione). Gli aeroporti più vicini sono Santorini e Milos. Orari: www.gtp.gr da consultare primadi partire Rino e Lucia Cappelletto (Prima settimana di giugno 2018) Noi siamo arrivati da Milos con la Zante ferries che collega, anche, IOS e Folegandros, proseguendo, poi, fino al Pireo. L’isola è collegata, anche, da Hellenic Seaways che non porta auto a bordo (solo servizio passeggeri). Servizio di bus dal porto per Horiò (fermata davanti a Iliovasilema). Its contribution to the historiography of the period stems from the fact that it constitutes the first academic study of the third largest resistance organisation in Greece, the 5/42 regiment of evzones. The study of this national resistance organisation can thus extend our knowledge of the Greek resistance effort, the political relations between the main resistance groups, the conditions that led to the civil war and the domestic relevance of British policies.

    2 WANAKS AND RELATED POWER TERMS IN MYCENAEAN AND LATER GREEK Thomas G Palaima There have been numerous advances in scholarship 1 (since Carlier, Royaute and 2 Palaima 1995 ) affecting the interpretation of the two lexical items (wa-na-ka = later wanaks and qa-si-re-u = later basileus) and related terms (e.g., lawagetas and e-ke-ra 2-wo) associated with the concept 'king' within Greek language and culture. Here I shall deal with them systematically under various subject headings that I hope are more than arbitrary. My main aim is to demonstrate that the most recently proposed etymologies of the term wanaks either confuse the functions of the wanaks within the Mycenaean texts for the essential meaning (and ideologi­ cal basis) of the word itself or are attractive as explanations for the meaning of the term, but ultimately unconvincing in accounting for its history. I argue that the essential meaning of the wanaks has to do, as in Hittite, with 'birth , begetting and fertility' and then with 'lineage'. 3 I then discuss many aspects of the attested functions of the wanaks in Mycenaean society. THE ETYMOLOGY OF WA-NA-KA, QA-SI-RE-U AND E-KE-RAi-WO: LINEAR B, HITTITE AND HOMER There are no convincing, that is, widely accepted, lndo-European etymologies of the Mycenaean terms wa-na-ka (later Greek civa~) and qa-si-re-u (later Greek I dedicate this paper to the late Kees Ruijgh whose scholarly erudition , integrity , deep human­ ity and generosity are sorely missed by all of us who still work at the Mycenaean texts that he understood so deeply and explicated so clearly.
