HUZOOR’S TOUR OF GERMANY JUNE 2014 A Personal Account PART 2 By Abid Khan 1 Departure for Munich On 9th June 2014, Huzoor and his Qafila departed from the Baitus Sabuh Mosque in Frankfurt at 10.15am. We were travelling to Neufahrn a small town, known as a municipality, lying in the suburbs of Germany’s famous city of Munich. Huzoor was travelling to inaugurate the Al-Mahdi Mosque. Apart from Berlin, Munich is considered to be Germany’s most famous city internationally. It is home to the famous football team ‘Bayern Munich’ and also home to the renowned car maker BMW. The drive from Frankfurt took nearly 3 and a half hours and as we approached Neufahrn the Qafila cars were escorted by 2 police cars. One of the police cars was a ‘special forces’ car which travelled at the rear of the Qafila, whilst the other police car acted as the lead car. Apart from these 2 cars there were other police cars that had completely blocked traffic on certain roads so that Huzoor’s car could travel directly without any delay. As I saw this I felt a great deal of gratitude to the German authorities for welcoming Huzoor in such a positive way. 2 Arrival in Munich We arrived at the AlMahdi Mosque at 1.35pm where Huzoor was greeted by a local dignitary. The dignitary spoke very passionately as he welcomed Huzoor and said that he held a very deep respect for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. Huzoor thanked him for his courtesy and kindness.

By this period, many indigenes of Bayelsa area had peacefully accepted Islam and made frantic efforts particularly through the establishment of Islamic organisations to ensure that the religion gained more adherents in the state. It is important to note that unlike in the Northern part of Nigeria where there was a recorded incessant religious motivated violence, Muslims in Bayelsa have enjoyed moderate harmonious relations with their Christian counterpart. The paper argues that while it is evident that there was never a time both Christians and Muslims got entangled in a religious motivated conflict in Bayelsa, the age long struggle for doctrinal dominance among the Muslims was inevitable in the area. The paper, however, discovered a growing but salient rivalry among the Izalah group in Nigeria that had snowballed into the Bayelsa state chapter. The study relies on primary evidences from interviews and also sourced information from secondary sources of data. The paper finally argues that, though ideological difference are inevitable among a group or more or among religious faithful, it should not be allowed to take a center stage else observed growth of Islam in Bayelsa could be hampered.

It heralds the completion of the first century of the estab lishment of the Ahmadiyya Movement in Islam in 1889 by its holy founder Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian, India, who claimed to be the Promised Messiah and Mahdi, the coming of whom was foretold by the Holy Founder oflslam Hazrat Muham mad Mustafa, peace be on him. The Promised Messiah had prophecied that Allah would cause his message to spread to the corners of the earth and we, the people of this Age are witness to the fact that the message which had emanated from a small remote village of Qadian one hundred years ago, has now spread to the corners of the earth and today, by the grace of Allah, the adherents to the faith exceed ten mil lion in 118 countries throughout the world.

Musa Department of Arts and Social Sciences Education University of Lagos Akoka-Lagos Nigeria Abstract: The essence of man’s progress is hinged on the resources of his history which he utilises in combating diverse challenges. The search for credible strategies for addressing existing threats to Muslim education in Nigeria requires revisiting the historical milieu and significant factors that produced legacies in Muslim education in the 20th century. This critical review should assist in determining the extent of the relevance of such legacies and their application within the contemporary education framework. This paper surveys the history of Nigerian Muslims’ acquisition of Western education focusing on the crucial roles of Jibril Martin (1888-1959) especially the various dimensions of his prioritisation of Muslim education. The paper explores the possibilities of a re-enactment of the precedent interventions against the backdrop of the current problems of disequilibrium in the range of content offered to Muslims, the commercialisation of Muslim education and the concomitant limited access to a standard-based Islamic education. Key words: Muslim Education Education in Nigeria Modern Education Muslim Leaders Jibril Martin INTRODUCTION characteristics and functions of creatures in existence [1]. The divine command of reading and engaging in Education in its broadest conception incorporates educational activities heralded the prophethood of all the efforts made by society to accomplish desirable Mu ammad as clearly enunciated in the first six verses of objectives at personal and social levels.

HUZOOR’S TOUR OF GERMANY & BELGIUM 2018 Part 2 A Personal Account By Abid Khan 1 Introduction to Part 2 In part 1 of this diary, I wrote about the first week of Huzoor’s tour of Germany in September 2018. In this part, I write about the final few days of Huzoor’s visit to Germany and then about his visit to Belgium, where Huzoor also graced the Jalsa Salana with his presence. During the final days of the tour, Huzoor met with many guests, dignitaries, media, as well as hundreds of Ahmadis. Many meetings were extremely emotional and faith inspiring. I consider a great blessing to have attended and to be able to recount some details in the coming pages. A healing hand One day, during the Germany Jalsa, I heard Mansoor (Huzoor’s grandson) had not been feeling well. When I saw him, later in the day, I asked him how he was. In response, Mansoor said: “I wasn’t feeling well at night and in the morning. I could not sleep at all until around Fajr time because I had a splitting headache. However, after Fajr, Huzoor came to see me and he gave me a glass of milk mixed with honey and also gave me paracetamol. After that, I was finally able to sleep and when I woke up I felt better.” 2 It was a beautiful and rare insight into how Huzoor continues to care for his family and loved ones and fulfils his familial duties despite being so busy. In fact, anyone who has seen Huzoor from close range will testify to the fact that the way Huzoor cares and loves for his family is an example for all mankind.
