German Movie Nights Scheduled at the Liederkranz Are you looking for something to do at the Liederkranz with your spouse or significant other on a Saturday evening? Then we have the perfect solution: German Movie Night at the Liederkranz! We will feature German language films with English subtitles once per month through April. These films, open to members and their guests, will be shown in the Ballroom beginning at 7:30. No Charge! Why not make it a complete night out? Come early and enjoy dinner! Dinner service is available on Saturdays beginning at 5:30. - Saturday, February 23, 7:30 “Sophie Scholl -Die letzten Tage” - Sophie Scholl: The Final Days (2005) Summary: A dramatization of the final days of Sophie Scholl, one of the most famousmembers of the German World War II anti-Nazi resistance movement, The White Rose.The film was presented at the 65th Berlin International Film Festival in February 2005 and won Silver Bear awards for Best Director and Best Actress (Julia Jentsch). It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Running Time: 117minutes Trailer - Saturday, March 23, 7:30 “Der Untergang”- Downfall (2004) Summary: Traudl Junge, the final secretary for Adolf Hitler, tells of the Nazi dictator's final days in his Berlin bunker at the end of WWII. In 2005, Downfall was nominated for an Oscar at the 77th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. It won the 2005 BBC Four World Cinema competition, and the film was also ranked number 48 in Empire magazine's "The 100 Best Films of World Cinema" in 2010. Running time: 155 minutes Trailer - Saturday, April 27, 7:30 “Lore”- (2012) Summary: In south-west Germany, during the aftermath of World War II, five destitute siblings must travel 900 km to their grandmother's home by the Bay of Husum near Ham-burg after their high-level Nazi parents disappear in the face of certain arrest by Allied occupation authorities. Along the way, they encounter a variety of other Germans, some of whom are helpful while others are antago-nistic. Eventually they meet up with a young man who has been pretending to be Thomas, a young Jewish con-centration camp survivor, who joins their group and becomes their unofficial guardian. Lore received the bronze award for Outstanding Feature Film at the 2013 German Film Awards.
