KUNSTLEX juni 2020: TM Wolthers KUNSTLEX Udarbejdet af Anette Wolthers, 2020 Wolthers KUNSTLEXTM er udarbejdet i forbindelse med min research og skrivning af bogen: Kvindelige kunstnere i Odsherred gennem 100 år, publiceret af Odsherreds Kunstmuseums og Malergårdens Venner og Museum Vestsjælland i 2020. Bogen, der er på 248 sider, har også bidrag af museumsinspektør Jesper Sejdner Knudsen og formand for Venneforeningen Alice Faber. Bogen kan købes på de enkelte museer i Museum Vestsjælland eller kan bestilles på: [email protected] eller telefon 2552 8337. Den koster 299 kr plus forsendelsesomkostninger (ca. 77 kr.) Der var ikke plads i bogen til at alle mine ’fund og overvejelser’. Derfor har jeg samlet nogle af disse, så interesserede kan få adgang til denne viden i bredden og dybden, samt gå med ad de tangenter, der kan supplere bogens univers. Så skal kulde sløre dine tanker og lamme dine lemmer. Til sidst skal isbjørnen æde dit kød og havet opsluge dine knogler. I slutningen af november 1907 døde 35-årige Ludvig Mylius-Erichsen på isen i Nioghalvfjerdsfjorden i det nordøstligste af Grønland. Uden mad, uden brænde eller brændstof til at smelte sne til drikkevand bukkede han under for den ubegribeligt iskolde arktiske vinter med dens storme og temperaturer på langt under 30 minusgrader. Han døde udbrændt og ensom fjernt fra det Danmark, han året forinden havde forladt som leder af og initiativtager til den 28 mand store Danmark-Ekspeditionen, der 1906-1908 skulle kortlægge og udforske det ukendte Nordøstgrønland. Ekspeditionens resultater, opmålinger og ikke mindst dens mange dramatiske begivenheder har gjort den til den måske vigtigste og vildeste, danske videnskabelige ekspedition nogensinde. Den fik betydning for det dansk- amerikanske forhold i Arktis og var med til at sikre, at Danmark i 1930erne kunne gøre endeligt krav på hele Grønland. Mylius-Erichsens død har lige siden været en gåde og det største mysterium i dansk ekspeditionshistorie. Officielt blev hans lig aldrig fundet, undersøgt eller begravet af de andre deltagere, og sådan er historien om Mylius-Erichsens endeligt blevet fortalt i over 100 år. 100 YEARS LATER Reflecting on Alfred Wegener’s Contributions to Tornado Research in Europe BOGDAN ANTONESCU, HUGO M. A. M. RICKETTS, AND DAVID M. SCHULTZ Alfred Wegener not only proposed the theory of continental drift but was also a pioneer of modern tornado research in Europe. lfred Wegener (1880–1930; Fig. 1) is mainly remembered today for his contributions to con- Atinental drift from which the modern theory of plate tectonics—“one of the key scientific concepts of the past century” (Greene 2015)—is derived (Romano and Cifelli 2015). Wegener not only made major contributions to geology and geophysics but also to astronomy and geodesy (Wegener 1905; he was an as- tronomer by training), glaciology (Koch and Wegener 1911; he was a pioneer explorer of Greenland), paleo- climatology (Köppen and Wegener 1924), and mete- oritics (Wegener 1925a). He performed research in at- mospheric physics and meteorology, including cloud microphysics (e.g., Wegener–Bergeron–Findeisen process; Wegener 1910), thermodynamics (Wegener 1911c), the vertical structure of the chemical compo- sition of the atmosphere (e.g., Wegener 1925b), and atmospheric optics (e.g., a subhelic arc is named the Wegener arc; Wegener 1925c). Lesser known are his contributions to the study of tornadoes. In 1917, Wegener published the seminal book Wind- und Wasserhosen in Europa (Tornadoes and Waterspouts in Europe). News Columns Activities at the Korean station Publications and Calendar of Arctic Meetings China has signed contract with Kings Bay Staff News and Publications New director of Kings Bay Contact Addresses Ny-Ålesund Newsletter 12th edition June 2003 A joint French – German polar research platform on Spitsbergen In order to extend the usability of their stations, AWI and IPEV, the operators of the German and French stations in the Ny- Ålesund area join their highly complementary investments and form a Joint French – German Polar Research Platform. This was announced at a conference in Brest on May 26, 2003, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Elysée-contract about French - German co-operation and friendship. In Ny-Ålesund the stations “Charles Rabot”, “Jean Corbel”, “Carl Koldewey”, and the atmospheric “NDSC-Observatory” will merge into one common administered Arctic research platform. This will include: Common announcements of opportunities for research at the platform Common evaluation of research proposals Conducting of joint research projects Sharing of personnel, logistics, and instrumentation A common station leader will be equally responsible for both the German and the French installations and for the station personnel. The new platform allows research in the areas (among others) of atmospheric chemistry, climate change, marine and terrestrial biology, geophysics. It builds upon infrastructures and equipment, which have been permanently installed by France and Germany in Ny-Ålesund, including accommodation, storage, office, and computer facilities, wet and dry laboratories, a balloon launching facility, remote and in situ sensing instrumentation within an atmospheric observatory, a new clean air station, and field and laboratory equipment for eco-physiology studies.
