Press Release Corita Kent and the Language of Pop Opens September 3, 2015, at the Harvard Art Museums Corita Kent, the juiciest tomato of all, 1964. Screenprint. Cambridge, MA June 18, 2015 (updated August 14, 2015) The Harvard Art Museums present Corita Kent and the Language of Pop, a special exhibition on display September 3, 2015 to January 3, 2016 at Harvard before travelling to the San Antonio Museum of Art, where it will be on view February 13 to May 8, 2016. The exhibition is curated by Susan Dackerman, the former Carl A. Weyerhaeuser Curator of Prints at the Harvard Art Museums (2005– 2014) and current consultative curator of prints. Corita Kent was an activist nun who juxtaposed spiritual, pop cultural, literary, and political writings alongside symbols of consumer culture and modern life in order to create bold images and prints during the 1960s. Also known as Sister Mary Corita, Kent is often seen as a curiosity or an “anomaly” in the pop art movement. Corita Kent and the Language of Pop positions Kent and her work within the pop art idiom, showing how she is an innovative contemporary of Andy Warhol, Ed Ruscha, and other pop art icons. The exhibition also expands the current scholarship on Kent’s art, elevating the role of her artwork by identifying its place in the artistic and cultural movements of her time. Corita Kent (American, 1918–1986) was a Roman Catholic nun, an artist, and an educator. From 1936 to 1968 she lived, studied, and taught at the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Los Angeles, and she headed the art department at the college there from 1964 to 1968. -

Abstract Op-Art can strengthen the product image and can combine culture elements which satisfies consumers’ visual requirement. Some applications of op-art are in security prints, fashion design, packaging design, architecture, interior design, publishing media, and printing designs. The problem is the few softwares specialized in Op-Art production. These softwares are based on geometric shapes in creating visual art items. Concerning the wide facilities of blend and transform options and effects in Adobe Illustrator software, many op- art items can be investigated. The goal is to highlight the importance of these tools options and effects and its ease, efficiency, and functionality in designing countless variety of op-art items. The availability, prevalence, and ease of use of the Adobe softwares are very important advantages that encourage designers to use in most of their works. The research aims to design Op-Art items by using Illustrator's blend and transform and utilizing these items in various designs. Zisla legacy shines on through website In the past, it was a brochure. Now, every artist needs a website. To create one for Harold Zisla '50, his daughter, Beverly Zisla Welber, wanted the outcome to reveal her father’s personality as well as his art. “Although every artist is unique, yielding a website with content that no one else’s has, I was looking for a way to capture what made him so unusual,” she said. “Me and My Zisla” became the means to do so. It assesses the impact of Russian technological Modernism, especially Constructivism, in the United States, chiefly in New York where it was disseminated, mimicked, and redefined. It is based on the paradox that Americans travelling to Europe and Russia on cultural pilgrimages to escape America were greeted with ‘Amerikanismus’ and ‘Amerikanizm’, where America represented the vanguard of technological modernity. -

Harlem est indissociable de la culture afro-américaine et de la lutte pour l’égalité des droits civiques produisant, au fil de son territoire, une géographie physique et sensible de vies qui se dévoilent aussi simplement qu’y transparait une affirmation identitaire belle et puissante. L’exposition collective Magnum in Harlem, comme 31 chroniques croisées, posées sur plusieurs décennies, rassemble les regards talentueux de 13 photographes Magnum dont chaque cliché, à chaque fois pénétrant, se noue à une vision particulière de Harlem. « Black is beautiful » se conjugue avec dignité, pudeur et flamboyance, dans les coulisses d’un défilé de mode, sur la scène de l’Apollo Theater, dans la rue lorsque qu’une nuée d’enfants improvisent une marelle sur un marquage de la police, dans une voiture abandonnée, lorsque des habitants endimanchés se rassemblent, alors que des jeunes femmes sur leur 31 prennent la pose. -
