Curators of architecture exhibitions are often concerned with the problem of how to present objects that ultimately cannot be brought into the exhibition space. Such shows are often difficult for lay audiences to interpret—little focus is placed on communication. However, there are also architecture exhibits that concentrate on communicating an experience, making it possible to build an intense relationship between the audience and the content on display. The result of a research project organized in 2013 by the faculty of Design and Art of the Free University of Bozen Bolzano, Displayed Spaces focuses on the question of how spaces might communicate architectural ideas in a redevelopment project and its accompanying exhibition proposed for the city of Bolzano, Italy. The book is organized into two sections—the first introduces project criteria and the curatorial considerations on content and its presentation; the second begins with an analysis of the public, with particular attention to the different types of visitors—and demonstrates how spatial engagement can generate a personal relationship between visitor and exhibition. Bringing together essays by theoreticians, curators and practitioners involved in exhibition production, this analysis of contemporary architecture exhibitions concludes by asking what is more important: the experience of the exhibition or its effect on the debate on architecture and its history. -

Tsibi Geva Selected to Represent Israeli Pavilion at the 56Th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale Di Venezia Ends
Tsibi Geva selected to represent Israeli Pavilion at the 56th International Art Exhibition – la Biennale di Venezia 5 February 2015 – Tsibi Geva has been selected to present Archeology of the Present for the Israeli Pavilion at the 56th International Art Exhibition – la Biennale di Venezia. Geva, who lives and works in Tel Aviv, is one of Israel’s most prominent and influential artists, and has exhibited extensively in major exhibitions across Israel, America, and Europe. Geva works in diverse media, his work often pushing beyond its physical limits into unique large-scale site- specific installations. Archeology of the Present will cover both the exterior and interior of the Pavilion, and will encompass the formal and thematic characteristics of Geva’s work as it has evolved throughout his career. In a year when curator Okuwi Enwezor, proposes to focus on All the World’s Futures, Geva’s site-specific, all-encompassing installation may also be read with regard to the current state of humanity and the world. Geva’s work contains numerous layers of significance shaped by processes of figuration and abstraction, revelation and concealment. The question of painting in particular, and of the art object in general, is present in his work alongside political and cultural questions, which simultaneously camouflage and enhance one another. Employing disruption and displacement, repetition and accumulation, Geva makes hybrid works that open up new discursive channels. Archeology of the Present will present paintings alongside sculptural installations and abandoned and manipulated objects, while abolishing the hierarchical distinctions between artistic mediums and structure. In doing so, it will give expression to Geva’s ongoing concern with elements related to the notion of ‘home’ – including terrazzo tiles, windows, shutters, lattices, cement blocks; elements which exist as fragments of what once was or could in principle constitute a home. -

An album begins with an empty space. A white shape, devoid of content, to be filled with stamps, postcards, letters, or photographs.1 A book-like object that stores a collection of associations, relationships, stories. Albums link people with people and people with the objects in their lives. They are at the center of the personal story: about family, about national identity, about place, love, and traumas. Photo albums are social objects whose history is embroiled in the developments of the photographic medium itself. They are possible interpretations, they can teach us to identify new approaches in photography or new aspects in the society and the place in which they were made. -
