THE MEDIUMSHIP of ARNOLD CLARE Leader of the Trinity of Spiritual Fellowship
THE MEDIUMSHIP OF ARNOLD CLARE Leader of the Trinity of Spiritual Fellowship by HARRY EDWARDS Captain, Indian Army Reserve of Officers. Lieutenant, Home Guard. Parliamentary Candidate North Camberwell 1929 and North-West Camberwell 1936. London County Council Candidate 1928, 1931, 1934, 1937. Leader of the Balham Psychic Research Society. Author of ‘The Mediumship of Jack Webber’ First Published by: THE PSYCHIC BOOK CLUB 144 High Holborn, London, W.C. 1 FOREWORD Apart from the report by Mr. W. Harrison of the early development of Mr. Arnold Clare's mediumship, the descriptions of the séances, the revelations of Peter and the writing of this book took place during the war years 1940-41. As enemy action on London intensified, the physical séances ceased and in the autumn of 1940 were replaced by discussion circles. The first few circles took place in the author's house before a company of about twenty people. It was soon appreciated that the intelligence (known as Peter), speaking through the entranced medium, was of a high order and worthy of reporting. So these large discussion groups gave way to a small circle held in the medium's house, attended by Mr. and Mrs. Clare, Mr. and Mrs. Hart, Mrs. Edwards and the author, an occasional visitor and with Mrs. W. B. Cleveland as stenographer. The procedure at these circles would be that, in normal white light, Mr. Clare would enter into a trance state. His Guide, Peter, taking control, would discourse upon the selected topic answering all questions fluently and without hesitation. Frequently, during these sittings, the air-raid sirens would be heard and the local anti- aircraft guns would be in action. -

LP. 200 Ronald Edwin Cockersell Fraudulent Medium – Genuine Psychic? In the last Psypioneer, we noted fraudulent mediums of the past, on some of whom Psypioneer had previously reported. In the same issue we published two articles on the physical mediumship of Charles Basham, one positive and the other negative. We also pointed out that the editors of the leading journals would once name and shame mediums caught in fraud. For example in 1955 Maurice Barbanell published the names Charles J. Basham, Arthur Philips, William Roy, and John Scammell; there were numerous others. Some claims are of course denied by the medium, and are defended by their supporters; others are cleared of the accusations made against them. Some claim unconscious fraud.1 There are also the mediums who confess and tell their stories of deceit, revealing their tricks, like William Roy and later in 1976 Lamar Keene. A former Camp Chesterfield medium, he confessed to fraud in his story told by Allen Spraggett (foreword by William V. -

She was the sole survivor of her parents’ eight children; her seven brothers had died at, or shortly after, birth. She and her parents moved to London when she was nine years old. After the First World War, Lilian married the son of a Wesleyan minister, William (Bill) Bailey in 1919. They settled in Bill’s home in Crewe, and in 1920 their only child, Dorothy Elizabeth was born. A year later Lilian went to a library in Crewe and borrowed a book called “Raymond or Life and Death” by Sir Oliver J. Lodge.1 The book was named after Lodge’s son who was killed in the war, and documented his spirit return. Reading this book enticed Lilian to borrow other similar books, and in one of these books, a reference was made to a man called William Hope, a psychic photographer who also lived in the same town of Crewe and she wondered if he could get a photograph of her dead mother. -
