Total economic activity supported by Georgia's forest industry increased four billion Robert Pollard Appling dollars to $28.9 billion in 2012, which is a 15.9% increase from 2011 and the highest level since 2001. Companies listed were operating in 2013. It is a marketing guide to maximize global competitiveness of Georgia grown and manufactured wood products. The Directory can benefit persons or firms, both interstate and intrastate, seeking to buy or sell specific items. The Directory cites 1,081 secondary mills. The information contained in this Directory is as up-to-date as possible. Data was collected during the second half of 2013 with publication in August 2014. A comprehensive effort was made to locate and interview all qualifying companies. The Georgia Forestry Commission would like to acknowledge the assistance provided by the Georgia Department of Economic Development in identifying companies for inclusion. The classification of some manufacturers was difficult because of varied products or raw materials. In general, primary industries are those that use round timber, and secondary industries are those using partially manufactured wood, such as lumber or plywood, as raw material. A more detailed classification was made using the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS). This Directory focuses on secondary industries only. The Directory includes an alphabetical listing of firms operating in Georgia. Information in this major listing includes name of company, physical address, telephone number, fax number, and email & website (if available), contact person and title and county of mill location. Additional information includes one or more major business classifications in which the company in engaged, species of wood or material used, products produced, certified wood products purchased and sold, including the type of wood certification system and products exported. Appendix A is a listing of the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) codes that were used in this Directory. Appendix B lists mills by the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) which describes major business types and related page number in the alphabetized company listing. In some situations, firms may be listed in multiple business types. For example, a cabinet firm may be listed in the furniture section, and similarly for other categories. Appendix C lists mills by county of location with area code, telephone number, and related page number in the alphabetized company listing. The Directory is available for download on the Georgia Forestry Commission website at www.gatrees.org/resources/directories/wood-using- industries/. In addition, the Wood Using Industries Online Directory, a searchable database of primary and secondary mills and the products they produce, can be found at the same site. Furthermore, a searchable, map-based, online directory of wood-using mills for the southeast U.S. can be found at www.forestproductslocator.org. Inquiries about the Directory including corrections and/or updates to company listings should be sent to the publication author, Risher Willard, at the following address.
