Per la quarta volta nella storia di questo evento, la Svezia ospita L’European Curling Championships che prenderà il via con le gare sabato 8 dicembre alla Löfbergs Lila Arena di Karlstad (Gruppo A uomini e donne con la Nazionale Italiana femminile) e al Karlstad Curling Club (Gruppo B uomini e donne, con la Nazionale Italiana maschile). E’ questa la 38esima edizione dei Campionati Europei dall’evento inaugurale del 1975 a Megeve, in Francia. Sia in campo maschile che in quello femminile, dieci squadre nazionali si sfideranno nel Gruppo A mentre dieci squadre femminili e sedici maschili si affronteranno nel Gruppo B. In programma nella prima giornata i 1500m uomini, i 5000m donne e il Team Pursuit maschile. Nei 1500m uomini Division B, ottimo quarto posto per l'Azzurro Mirko Nenzi con il tempo di 1.49.49, mentre Jan Daldossi ha chiuso 22esimo con 1.54.68. In Division A successo per lo statunitense Shani Davis in 1.46.01. Matteo Anesi ha chiuso la stessa gara 20esimo in 1.49.77. Nella classifica di World Cup sui 1500m, lo stesso Anesi è il primo degli Azzurri con il suo 23esimo posto, seguito da Nenzi, 28esimo. Nei 5000m donne, in Division B 17esima Francesca Bettrone con il tempo di 7.31.63. In Division A, vittoria per la campionessa ceca Martina Sablikova in 7.00.75. La Sablikova comanda anche la classifica generale di specialità. Decimo posto, infine, per il Team Pursuit maschile italiano in 3.50.12 nella Senza atleti italiani in gara, questi tutti i gara vinta dall'Olanda in 3.41.27.
