IncompleteBy Howard BleachWhat you get here, for a rather high price, is a chronological (by catalog number) discography of the ECM label and nothing more. This in and of itself is fine (anyone expecting an accompanying essay, or even an introduction, will be disappointed), but even as mere reference book, I am left wanting. While personnel is listed for each release, individual composer credits are not. This, in my opinion, is an oversight. What does the discography look like, for example, if you ignore the contributions of Annette Peacock? Additionally, there is no index (so if you wanted to, say, immediately look up everything recorded for ECM, good luck), and while recording dates are listed by month and year, album release dates are not. I also would have liked to have seen some photos, something I hope the author rectifies for future editions. In general, a decent if incomplete reference book and nice companion to the author's (slightly superior) first volume, but hardly essential.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A COMPLETE ECM DISCOGRAPHY painstakingly compiled and covering releases from 1969 to 2015. A discography of the entire music catalog of Germany based ECM Records (Edition of Contemporary Music) compiled by a long time aficionado and documenting every release since the labels inception. Founded in 1969 by , an inspiring music scholar and double bass player whose dream to launch an independent with its own creative agenda went on to change the course and history of music in the 20th century. In 1969, Eicher released the first ECM album by jazz artist Mal Waldron and continued to introduce a long line up of incredible jazz talent including , Gary Burton, , , , John Abercombie, the Art Ensemble of Chicago, and onhellip;. The Koln Concerts by Keith Jarrett remains one of the top selling jazz albums in history. In 1984, Eicher introduced the ECM New Series as an avenue to release a great catalog of Western Classical recordings. The series was created for the debut recording for the incredible genies of Arvo Pauml;rt. ECM has released well over a thousand album releases, most produced by Eicher himself personally. Also includes information on releases by affiliated labels JAPO and WATT. OVER 500 PAGES OF INFORMATION including personnel, studio, dates, tracks and more. This book is not endorsed or affiliated with ECM Records and its origin was as a reference for radio DJ's along with its sister book, Volume 1, which features brief bios on every artist appearing on an ECM release.
