 MIDEM CLASSICAL EMBASSY

Over the course of three thematic nights, the Midem Classical Embassy programme of concerts will allow the most promising young artists to perform in front of both Midem participants and a B2C audience. The Midem Classical Embassy is organised in partnership with the prestigious Salzburg festival, hosted by James Jolly and supported by distinguished ambassadors such as mezzo-soprano opera star Christa Ludwig, Moldovan violinist , German-Japanese pianist Alice Sara Ott, Alain Lanceron, President of Virgin Classics and Director of EMI Classics France, and Eugène Prim, Managing Director, Solistes Européens (Luxembourg).

Midem Festival 26-27-28 January

The second edition of the live music Midem Festival features an international roaster of acclaimed headliners and a one-of-a-kind competition allowing the public to vote for emerging artists and get them to perform in front of Midem global audience. Part of Midem tradeshow, Midem festival will take place every night from Saturday 26 to Monday 28 January on the Palais des Festivals esplanade in a specially built Magic Mirrors wooden trendy venue. Following the success of its inaugural edition, the Midem 2013 festival presents ten concerts in three nights at the heart of the world‟s largest music market and delivered in front of a unique audience of both international music professionals and general music fans.  SATURDAY 26 JANUARY

INDABA “Play Midem 2013” winner: YES SIR BOSS is the first signature on Joss Stone label “Stoned Records”. Their first album Desperation State is set to be released in Europe on February 2013.

The Israeli singer-songwriter and musician, ASAF AVIDAN, is known to be called “the lovechild of Dylan and Joplin” because of his exceptional strong voice. Avidan‟s new solo album Different Pulses is set to be released th internationally through Polydor/Universal on January 28 .

The world-renowned British stars of MADNESS, who recently performed at the Queens Diamond Jubilee concert and at the Olympic Games closing ceremony and who‟s new album Oui Oui, Si Si, Ja Ja, Da Da was released through Cooking Vinyl/Atmosphériques.

 SUNDAY 27 JANUARY

The winner of the Midem 2013 official soundtrack competition and praised French pop/rock sextet, BIRDY HUNT, will take the Midem stage after improving their skills on British stages and at the biggest festivals in France, like Rock en Seine and the Printemps de Bourges.

DRUNKEN TIGER & T is a critically acclaimed Korean/American band which debuted in 1999 and has since released eight albums. As of 2009, Drunken Tiger's central figure is Korean American Tiger JK. They will be joined on stage for the occasion by Block-B, a South Korean boy group.

The internationally-acclaimed French electro/urban music quartet, C2C, ranked #1 at the DMC World DJ Championships four times in a row (2003-2006). Creating an original blend of electro, soul and hip-hop moods and using turntables as a bona fide musical instrument, C2C‟s first album, Tetra, was released last September and their DJ battles reached over seven millions views on YouTube.

 MONDAY 28 JANUARY

INDABA “Play Midem 2013” winner: ENDAH N RHESA is an Indonesian band. Their third album is set to be released in 2013.

BALTHAZAR is one of Belgium‟s most promising indie rock outfits, whose new album Rats has recently been released through Play It Again Sam/Pias.

Like , dEUS or Soulwax/2manydj‟s, the band is a powerful mix of extremes: furious and rhythmic silent and attractive, precise and enchanting.

Long-time 30 year-old actress and model LOU DOILLON comes to Cannes with her first and celebrated album Places. The half-sister of Charlotte Gainsbourg and daughter of British singer Jane Birkin and French film

director Jacques Doillon is musically produced by French star-singer Etienne Daho and music studios wizard Zdar.

London/Paris/Brighton-based collective ARCHIVE will present their new album With Us Until You„re Dead. Part-orchestral, part-electronic, part- soulful, part-progressive, the album is said to touch tangents with Massive Attack, Radiohead, UNKLE, Secret Machines and Pink Floyd.

21 Midem Off 26-27-28 January

3 nights of parties and gigs in the City of Cannes: B.Pub, Ma Nolan‟s, Morrison‟s Irish Pub, The Establishment

In parallel to the Midem Festival, a series of smaller concerts, entitles Midem Off, will bring music to the heart of Cannes. The best bars around the town will showcase a wide range of new talent that will complete the programme of Midem Festival live performance. Midem Off is the turnkey solution to showcase artists and a real business acceleration to their career.

The Midem Classical Embassy is organised in partnership with the prestigious Salzburg Festival through their Young Singers Project (YSP), the Young Classical Artists Trust (YCAT) and Steinway & Sons.

Each evening will be hosted by James Jolly, Editor-in-chief, Gramophone, and Presenter, BBC Radio 3, also supported by distinguished ambassadors such as Christa Ludwig (Mezzo-soprano), Alain Lanceron (Director of Virgin Classics and EMI Classics France), Patricia Kopatchinskaja (Violonist), Eugène Prim (President & Managing Director of the Solistes Européens Luxembourg), Alice Sara Ott (Pianist) and Gerritt Glaner (Head of Concert and Artist Department at Steinway at Sons). Midcem Classical Embassy will take place in a pleasant venue called 3.14 Hotel.

Programme:  Saturday will be dedicated to vocal and present a mesmerising programme proposed in partnership with the prestigious Salzburg Festival through their “Young Singers Project”.

 Sunday will be dedicated to string instruments and present a selection of some of the most talented young artists promoted and presented in partnership with YCAT.

 Monday will be dedicated to piano and present a fine selection of young talent newly awarded from the most famous piano competitions (Geneva International Music Competition, The Leeds International Piano Competition, Géza Anda Piano Competition, Ferrucio Busoni International Piano Competition), in partnership with Steinway & Sons.

Each evening will be preceded by exclusive opera concerts and documentary screenings from 17.00 at the Fnac Café.
