Under The Radar The Monthly Newsletter of Corvette Super Sports Volume 51 number 2 February 2010 Corvette Super Sports is a car club made up of Corvette owners with a passion for a fine driving machine, with the goal to participate in and support auto-related activities, such as: car shows, auto- crossing, rallies, drag racing, caravans, cruises, parades, etc. We support (N.C.C.C.) National Council of Corvette Clubs, National Corvette Museum, several social, civic, and charitable organizations. CSS is incorporated as a non-profit organization in the County of Orange, California. We welcome guests to our meetings on first Tuesday of each month at 7:00PM at "SIZZLER" Steak, Seafood & Salad Bar 1401 N. Harbor Blvd, Fullerton, CA 92835 (Harbor Blvd. at Brea Blvd.) Corvette Super Sports Charities, By Marietta Darke: For many years, CSS has been a major sponsor for our two main Charities; H.I.S. House Transitional Shelter and CHiP's for Kids. HIS House is a 4-6 month program for homeless men, women, and children to prepare for and secure employment, education and permanent housing. CHiP's for Kids began with an individual CHP officer that spread like wildfire within their own departments. To reach out in the community to help abused, orphaned, and seriously neglected children. Corvette Super Sports was introduced to Hillview Acres Children's Home though our involvement with the CHP. Hillview brings hope through a safe therapeutic environment, to help children regain trust, a place to heal and away from serious emotional disturbances. Through our volunteer and club events such as car shows, visits, work/clean up day, donations, garage sales, Corvette Super Sports donated not only many hours throughout the year but also monetary donations. HIS House and CHiPs, combined, have been recipients of $5000 each year. We hope that this will continue with our SUPERSPORTS member’s efforts. Appreciate your support. As Always, SAVE the WAVE Marietta CSS Charity Rep Charity Donations Corvette Super Sports was blessed during 2009 to have provided venues that attracted many participants. From our activities, we were able to donate to our charities as follows: Hill view Acres $3,500 His House, Placentia $3,500. In addition our members donated new pillows and cases at the end of the year. In addition to our sponsored charities, we also felt compelled to provide funding to other charities: Alzheimer’s $500 Counsel On Aging $500 Corvette Super Sports believes that it is our duty to participate in other Corvette Club’s activities to support their charities. Corvette Super Sports' Charities These are the organizations and programs our members support ... because we believe in "giving back" to the communities in which we live ... and drive ... our Corvettes. Come to a board meeting and you too can be pictured here! Hello From Me To You – Take II Madam Pres Wow…… It’s March 2010. I am so very saddened……. especially this morning, knowing that I will be going to pay tribute to our sweet Ilona Alciatore , but now learn this morning, that we have lost our big guy, Dave Stewart. I only want to envision both of them high above waving down on us………. I would like to remind everyone, that I have been President for 2 months……. At this time, I am NOT holding a very good record in this area. “IF” I need to write about this again…… it will be my resignation speech. Don’t think I’m kidding. This is the year 2010, on my watch as President and the loss of two of our dearest CSS members, Ilona Alciatore (January) and Dave Stewart (February) is truly something I wish I could have missed. Dave and Ilona both have been icons for this club with their love of Corvettes and life itself. Dave…. What can you say about that sweet big guy…..always willing to give you a big gentle hug…….. I’m sure I’m not alone holding my broken heart……. Our lives will be empty without the two of you in it. I survived my first Board Meeting and General Meeting without being impeached, I call that progress. During our February meeting, I asked Joe after the meeting if everything was ok. I was a little concerned when I asked if anyone had anything to say and the room went…..silent….. I don’t believe I’ve ever heard that sound at our General Meetings before! Sweetheart Bowling – words come to mind such as Advil, Ben-Gay, furry handcuffs and laughs! I can’t tell you what a fun events these bowling games are at my age! I just love a challenge! Vicki and Linda could never leave the club, they just know how to entertain a fun loving group too much! Thanks again Linda & Vicki! Prado – means shotguns and for some means some pretty good bruises! Oh, and some more Advil! Joe and I joined the posse that went to Prado and while I was fortunate to use Art Huhta’s shotgun (Thank you so much, Art), Joe used the old one we have sitting at home, never used. Shooting trap, is a kick. No, I mean really a kick! Art was gracious enough to coach me, everyone else should thank Art for that too, since this was my first time with a shotgun! My first shot was scary…. I YELLED ‘PULL’ AND I HIT THAT FLYING ORANGE UFO! Joe said he was seeing a ‘skirt’ at that moment. Lucky for him, out of trying 50 times, I only got a total of 3, which were very exciting to get, but the other 47 shots were fun too! We have many fun events planned for our future, however, continue to seek out even more. If you hear of any excitement going on out there, don’t keep it a secret! I’m looking forward to stirring up the enthusiasm within CSS this year, but I’ll need your help, so take your vitamins!!! Don’t forget to wear your St. Patrick’s Day attire for the March meeting! Or just show up Green!
