"OPERATION HORIZON" ON THE MOVE Unique items of tronsportation being handled by the Milwaukee Road include "Jetway" telescaping ramps for Chicaga's multimillian dallar O'Hare International Airport opened Jan. 16, on which construction activities are continuing. The ramps, designed to facilitate the loading and unloading of planes and to protect passen­ gers fram the weather, are shipped by the PI Steel Cam­ pany, Ogden, Utah, via the Unian Pacific and the Milwaukee, ta Bensenville Yord, from where they are trucked to the airport under special escort. The laads stand 16 feet 5 inches above the rail, ore 52 feet long in a telescoped conditian, 107 feet racked out, and weigh 35,000 pounds. In position, one end of a ramp is attached to "fingers" jutting fram the terminal buildings, the ather has a wheel assembly with on elec­ tric motor which allows it to be swung in a wide arc to connect with planes. The units are valued at $100,000 each and are the first at any Chicago airport. O'Hare will have 60.
