ABUGHAIDA, Dareen Dareen Abughaida is a Principal Presenter at Al Jazeera English and has over ten years’ experience in journalism. She joined Al Jazeera English in 2010. Recent presenting highlights at Al Jazeera English include coverage of the Egyptian revolution, Tunisian and Libyan uprisings, the war in Syria, Turkey unrest, and the tsunami in Japan. She participates and moderates panels at conferences including the World Climate Change and the Al Jazeera Centre for Studies, representing the Al Jazeera Network. Previous roles include anchor for programs at Dubai TV and CNBC Arabia, and news anchor for Bloomberg Television UK. At Dubai TV, Dareen Abughaida presented and produced programs interviewing heads of state, CEO's and experts in their fields. At Bloomberg she launched and presented the networks' program on the Middle East "Middle East Middle East Money Focus."

AL KHAWAJA, Maryam Maryam Al Khawaja is a Bahraini human rights activist and president of the Bahrain Centre for Human Rights. Since many years she has been actively involved in human rights organizations and has participated in many conferences on this issue. She reported for example at the US Congress about the human rights’ situation in Bahrain, at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva or at the Freedom Forum. Maryam Al Khawaja has been president of the Bahrain Centre for Human Rights since 2012.

ALI, Owais Aslam Owais Alam Ali is Secretary General of the Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF), holds a degree in journalism from Cardiff University, and was among the recipients of the Nieman Fellowship for Journalism at Harvard University in 2002. In addition to the PPF, he is also chairman of both Pakistan Press International and Asianet-Pakistan, the oldest and largest digital content syndication service in the country. Additionally, Owais Aslam Ali is inter alia member of the executive board of the International Press Instiutute (IPI) , member of the editorial advisor council of the Ethical Journalism Network (EJN).

ARAPOVA, Galina Galina Arapova is director and senior media lawyer of the NGO Mass Media Defence Centre, working in the field of media rights protection and the promotion of freedom of expression standards in Russia. She is also a trustee of the international human rights organization ARTICLE 19 (Global Campaign for Free expression); a member of the International Media Lawyers Association; chair of the Public Council of Voronezh Regional Police Department; and a member of Voronezh City public Chamber. Galina Arapova has a law degree, and undertook post graduate studies at the Institute of the World Economy and International Relations (Russian Academy of Sciences).

BADER, Yara Yara Bader is the Acting director of the Syrian Centre for Media and Freedom of Expression (SCM) and wife of the imprisoned Syrian journalist and human rights activist, Mazen Darwish. The SCM has played a key role in reporting the daily developments in Syria since the start of the uprising in early 2011, in particular due to the very limited access given to international journalists. Bader is well- known both inside Syria and regionally as a journalist working on a wide range of cultural and current affairs issues.

BARWARI, Dlovan

Dlovan Barwari has been Head of the Volunteer Lawyers Network for the Defense of Freedom of Expression in Iraq since 2014. At the same time, he is a media consultant to International Media Support (IMS). Previous positions include his work as a media specialist of the American University in Iraq, journalistic activities e.g. with the Washington Post in Mosul and Kurdistan, as chief editor for Wadi Al Rafidain or the Aswat al-Iraq . Dlovan Barwari is a member of the Iraqi Association for Human Rights and of the International Federation of the Press as well as a founding member of the Iraqi Network for Investigative Journalism (NIRIJ). He received several awards for his work as an investigative journalist, among others, he won the first prize of the Ariji competition for the best investigative journalist in the Arab world and the first prize of the Lorenzo Natalie competition.

BENKÖ, Cilla Cilla Benkö was appointed Director General and CEO of the Swedish Radio October 1, 2012. Since 2009, she held the position of Deputy Director General of Swedish Radio. Cilla Benkö has been working for Swedish Radio for more than 30 years and during this period she has had several management positions. Her journalistic career has not only involved assignments within public broadcasting. She has also worked as a freelance in New York for the Swedish commercial television and was Head of the News Department “Aktuellt”, Swedish Television. Since 2010 Cilla Benkö is one of eleven members of the EBU Executive Board and currently a member of the EBU Personnel Committee.

BERGER, Guy Guy Berger is Director for Freedom of Expression and Media Development at UNESCO. BOŠS, Edjis Edijs Bošs is lecturer at the Department of Social Sciences of the University of Latvia and European Studies Department of Riga Stradiņš University. He previously worked as news correspondent for LNT (Latvian Independent Television), as correspondent in Estonia for the Newspaper Diena, as well as news correspondent for LTV (Latvian Public Service Television) and news caster for TV3. Edjis Boss holds a bachelor’s degree in Media Studies from the University of Estonia, a master’s degree in Contemporary European Studies from the University of Cambridge and a PhD in International Studies from the University of Cambridge. His academic specializations are U.S.-Baltic relations, history of EU political integration, EU foreign and security policies, international history of Europe 1648-1945 and Cold War international history 1945-1991.

BRAŽE, Baiba Baiba Braže is Ambassador and Director General for the Directorate of Security Policy and International Organizations in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia. Previously, she was Ambassador at Large to the Third Political Directorate and before that Permanent Representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. ZELČE, Vita Vita Zelče is professor at the Department of Communication Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Latvia. She has published on media history, social memory, commemoration, and history of women. She is author and editor of 15 books.

ZORICA, Mihaela Banek Mihaela Banek Zorica is a professor at Department of Information and Communication Sciences, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, at University of Zagreb in Croatia. She is a Chair of the Media and communication and teaches on undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate level subjects related to knowledge organization, e-learning, school libraries, media and information literacy. She has been working on several international and national projects, participated on national and international conferences on their program and organizing committee. Her research is published in journals and conference proceedings and she is the author of several books and book chapters. In 2010 Mihaela Banek Zorica received the IASL School Librarianship Award and the University of Zagreb e-Learning Award for a course with the best utilization of social software in e- learning. Currently she is a Vice President of the IASL and the executive board of the ENSIL foundation.

ZUROVAC, Ljiljana Ljiljana Zurovac has been Executive Director of the Press Council in Bosnia-Herzegovina since September 2005. An expert on media self-regulation and ethics, she established "Only a society that a new Press Council for all print and online media in Bosnia- demands the truth, Herzegovina. In the context of the Press Council, she has sets the ground upon also established educational programs on media ethics and which journalism press freedom, as well as on media literacy for diverse thrives" audiences. She had previously worked for six years as program Director at the Media Plan High College of Journalism. Between 1980 and 2008 she worked as an active radio and TV journalist, editor and host of live

programs at PBS and Radio FERN.
