ARTICLE ISSN 2651 - 5210 MODULAR 2019;2(2):21-45 The Cultural Sustainability: Merzifon Anatolia College, Turkey Gizem Özerol1, Aysu Akalın2 Received: 19 November 2019 - Accepted: 17 December 2019 Abstract The article proposes an analysis of the role of American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions (ABCFM) during the late Ottoman and the early nationalist (Republican) Turkey and focusses especially on the ABCFM organization and the role of Protestant missionaries, which they succeeded in establishing autonomous schools, hospitals, clinics, orphanages, lodgings and ateliers not only in the capitals, but also in provinces. The American Board began evangelism among Armenians, and the education and the social services became part of the Protestant movement in the Near East. Following efforts to Christianize the nations through evangelism, in the mid of 19th century, Merzifon (Marsovan) province was chosen due to its location in the middle of Anatolia and Merzifon Anatolia College was designed as an important ‘station’ in order to support the American missionary movements. Then, between the years 1886 and 1938, ABCFM built strong connections with Anatolia College in Merzifon to gain a very important strategic position. In the context of the First World War, the function of the Anatolia College buildings has changed for different aims; the military used these buildings as the Artillery Regiment. After the war the ABCFM’s network broke down but its strong contribution to present education in Turkey is inevitable. The site as a heritage is still an active part of the city’s cultural life with some existing buildings of ABCFM supporting culture and education. -

The median-joining network and phylogenetic tree exhibit two different maternal lineages of the 16 Turkish indigenous donkey populations. Abstract: In this study, to analyze the mtDNA D-loop region and the origin of the maternal lineages of 16 different donkey populations, and to assess the domestication of Turkish indigenous donkeys in seven geographical regions, we investigated the DNA sequences of the D-loop region of 315 indigenous donkeys from Turkey. -

Munis Entomology & Zoology, 15 (1): 269-297] ABSTRACT: In this study, material belonging to nine subfamilies of Chrysomelidae housed in the collection of Nazife Tuatay Plant Protection Museum (NTM) (Turkey, Ankara) have been evaluated. A total of 121 species of 41 genera have been presented. Among those Smaragdina concolor concolor (Fabricius, 1792) and Podagrica malvae semirufa (Küster, 1847) are the first record for Turkey. Also, Labidostomis metallica metallica Lefèvre, 1872, Chrysolina anceyi anceyi (Marseul, 1868), Aphthona pallida (Bach, 1859) and Longitarsus callidus Warchałowski, 1967 are the second reports for Turkey. Additional new provincial and regional records for many species have been given. KEY WORDS: Fauna, Chrysomelidae, the leaf beetles, Turkey, biodiversity The Chrysomelidae fauna of Turkey has been studied by many foreign and native scientists. Recent studies of Löbl & Smetana (2010), Warchalowski (2010), Ekiz et al. (2013), Özdikmen (2014a,b), Özdikmen & Cihan (2014), Özdikmen & Kavak (2014), Özdikmen & Kaya (2014), Özdikmen & Mercan (2014), Özdikmen & Özbek (2014) and Özdikmen & Topcu (2014) have great importance for Chrysomelidae fauna of Turkey. -

To facilitate effective conservation management of dry-grassland diver- sity we studied the habitat selection of Carabus hungaricus, the globally declining, highly endangered, dry-grassland specialist beetle listed in the EU Habitats Directive, and several co-occurring beetles at a pannonian dry-grassland fragment, the Pouzdr- any steppe, SE Czech Republic. The beetles were sampled using 186 pitfall traps from March to November 2006. Number of C. hungaricus captures in each trap was related to vegetation and abiotic habitat characteristics; captures of all sampled bee- tles in each trap were related to each other. 2. We found that C. hungaricus prefers relatively humid patches of tall-grass steppe within the xeric grassland and tall-grass ruderal vegetation nearby. During the breed- ing period, females preferred drier and warmer sites than males. 3. Its potential competitors, i.e., Carabus spp., Calosoma spp. (Coleoptera: Carabi- dae), and other species of conservation interest, including Meloe spp. (Coleoptera: Meloidae), Dorcadion spp. (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae), were associated with vegeta- tion avoided by C. hungaricus, such as short-grass and bare-soil patches and woody plants. 4. Abstract: Nacerdes (Xanthochroa) carniolica peloponesiaca Švihla, 1991 is recorded in Italy for the first time and the biogeographical origin of this new population is discussed on the base of the current knowledge on Coleoptera with trans-Adriatic distribution. The range of this sub- species is revised and some biological notes on the larval food preferences and ecology are provided. Submission of Manuscripts: Works published or under consideration elsewhere (including on the internet) will not be accepted. At first submission, one double spaced hard copy (text and tables) with figures (may not be original) must be sent to the Editors, Dr. Hüseyin Özdikmen for publication in MEZ. All manuscripts should be submitted as Word file or PDF file in an e-mail attachment. If electronic submission is not possible due to limitations of electronic space at the sending or receiving ends, unavailability of e-mail, etc., we will accept “hard” versions, in triplicate, accompanied by an electronic version stored in a floppy disk, a CD-ROM. Review Process: When submitting manuscripts, all authors provides the name, of at least three qualified experts (they also provide their address, subject fields and e-mails). Then, the editors send to experts to review the papers. The review process should normally be completed within 45-60 days. After reviewing papers by reviwers: Rejected papers are discarded. For accepted papers, authors are asked to modify their papers according to suggestions of the reviewers and editors. Final versions of manuscripts and figures are needed in a digital format. -

Munis Entomology & Zoology, 5 (2): 380-498] ABSTRACT: All taxa of the tribe Dorcadiini Latreille, 1825 in Turkey are evaluated and summarized with zoogeographical remarks. Also Dorcadion praetermissum mikhaili ssp. n. is described in the text. KEY WORDS: Dorcadion, Neodorcadion, Dorcadiini, Lamiinae, Cerambycidae, Coleoptera, Turkey. The main aim of this work is to clarify current status of the tribe Dorcadiini in Turkey. The work on Turkish Dorcadiini means to realize a study on about one third or one fourth of Turkish Cerambycidae fauna. As the same way, Turkish Dorcadiini is almost one second or one third of Dorcadiini in the whole world fauna. Turkish Dorcadiini is a very important group. This importance originated from their high endemism rate, and also their number of species. However, the information on all Turkish Dorcadiini is not enough. The first large work on Dorcadiini species was carried out by Ganglbauer (1884). He evaluated a total of 152 species of the genus Dorcadion and 13 species of the genus Neodorcadion. He gave 30 Dorcadion species and 4 Neodorcadion species for Turkey. Then, the number of Turkish Dorcadion species raised to 53 with 23 described species by Heyden (1894), Ganglbauer (1897), Jakovlev (1899), Daniel (1900, 1901), Pic (1895, 1900, 1901, 1902, 1905, 1931), Suvorov (1915), Plavilstshikov (1958). -
