form during the ECC Tournament. Th e Pioneers made strides in 2009-10 as they posted a 20-9 over- DEIRDRE MOORE all record – their highest win total since the 1987-88 season. LIU Post was 9-3 when playing away from the Pratt. In addition, Aiken was Head Coach voted both the ECC and ECAC Player of the Year. Th e Pioneers also boasted three 1,000 career scorers in Aiken, Gina Catherall and Jasmine Moore. Fifth Season In her fi rst season at the helm in 2008-09, Moore coached the Pioneers to a 13-14 overall record with a 10-8 clip in conference play. LIU Post advanced to the semifi nal round of the East Coast Con- ference Championships after an 83-67 win over Bridgeport in the quarterfi nals. At the conclusion of the season, the Pioneers boasted three all-conference selections, including senior Whitney Murrer, who was also named Second Team All-Met and went on to play for the Gigantes de Carolina of the Puerto Rican basketball league. E Prior to her appointment as head coach, Moore served 11 years as an assistant coach for the Pioneers. She worked primarily with the R back court and helped the Pioneers post a record of 166-152. Th is included an appearance at the NCAA tournament in the 2000-01

O season, and appearances in the East Coast Conference Championships in 2006-07 and 2007-08. Moore recruited 1,000 point scorers Basimah Th ompson and Th alia Jackson to the program. O Moore also worked as a mathematics special education teacher for 11 years in Queens, and is currently working towards earning

M another master’s degrees, in electrical engineering. In addition to her

involvement with numerous camps, clinics, and community outreach programs, she has been involved with the Empire State games since E 2000, coaching three diff erent teams in the summer competition. She helped the New York City region team achieve a gold medal fi nish for R the fi rst time in 19 years. Moore has also lent her expertise to the LIU Post Mathematics and Physics departments, serving as a tutor.

D Moore serves on the Employer Advisory Board (EAB), which works closely with employers from all backgrounds at diff erent loca-

R tions on Long Island. Th e EAB puts together programs to help all stu- dents connect with employers and educate students as to appropriate I ways to act when employed as well as help them learn how to network.

E Monthly programs are held to benefi t all students at LIU Post and the program sponsors a Women’s Achievement dinner each year. Moore was also a member of A-SAAC (Academic Student Aff airs D

Advisory committee). Th is committee planned diff erent programs to enhance the academic success and achievement of our current students. Some projects included choosing books for incoming fresh-

H men to read in College 101 as well as putting together information for professors on how to deal with diffi cult behaviors in the classroom.

She is able to finish around the rim and has a nice shooting touch. Moore describes her as a piece to help solidi- fy the front court presence.

Steinberg, the ninth president of Long Island University, has served the institution since 1985. Th e son of the late Rabbi Milton Steinberg of Manhattan’s Park Avenue Synagogue, he was born in New York City and was educated at Phillips Academy at Andover, Malvern College in England and Harvard College, from which he graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. After a Fulbright year at the University of the Philippines and a year at Columbia University on a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship, he returned to Harvard, where he earned an M.A. in East Asian studies in 1963, and a Ph.D. in history in 1964. Dr. Steinberg also has received several honorary

T degrees.

S He began his teaching career in the Department of History at the University of Michigan, where he rose to the rank of full professor. In 1973, he joined the administration of Brandeis Uni- O versity as executive assistant to the president, becoming vice president and university secretary in 1977. P

Th e author of numerous books and articles on Southeast Asia and, in particular, Philippine

U history, Dr. Steinberg has taught, lectured and written about this important area of the world for a third of a century. His fi rst

I book, “Philippine Collaboration in World War II,” won the University Press Award in 1969. “Th e Philippines: A Singular and a Plural Place,” now in its third edition, was described by U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines Nicholas Platt as “the best single- L volume guide to understanding the Philippines, past and present.” He also edited and co-authored both editions of “In Search of Southeast Asia,” one of the major textbooks on the area. Dr. Steinberg recently collaborated with top scholars from around the -

world to co-author “Th e Emergence of Modern Southeast Asia,” a new and multifaceted history of this complex region. In addi- tion, he is a co-author of “Religion and Religiosity in the Philippines and Indonesia: Essays on State, Society and Public Creeds,” Y which was published in 2005.

T Dr. Steinberg was a member of the international observer team that monitored the Philippine presidential elections when I Corazon Aquino defeated Ferdinand Marcos. He has written numerous op-ed pieces and has been a consultant to UN agencies,

S the United States government, the Ford Foundation and others.

R He and his wife, Joan, a chanteuse and real estate executive, reside in McGrath House on the LIU Post Campus. Th e couple

N Paul H. Forestell - Provost, LIU Post U

Paul H. Forestell, a professor of psychology and an internationally renowned marine mammal D scientist, was appointed provost of LIU Post in July 2008. A seasoned administrator, Dr. Forestell served as vice president of the Pacifi c Whale Foundation in Hawaii, as dean of undergraduate N programs at Southampton College of Long Island University, and as associate dean of the College A of Liberal Arts and Sciences at LIU Post. L

S As provost, Dr. Forestell leads one of the New York metropolitan area’s most respected private

I university campuses, with an enrollment of nearly 5,700 undergraduate, 3,100 graduates and 2,300 continuing education students. He is responsible for campus operations, program development, admissions and recruitment, retention, fi nancial aid, athletics, student aff airs, public safety, and G buildings and grounds. N His collaborative leadership style has contributed greatly to enhancing the student-centered mission of the University. In

O 2008, Dr. Forestell established the Division of Student Retention & Academic Support Services at LIU Post to assist students in achieving academic and career success. A champion of experiential learning, he coordinates study abroad and fi eld research op- LONG ISLAND - LIU POST L LONG UNIVERSITY portunities for students, and teaches classes in whale and dolphin behavior.

Dr. Forestell graduated from the University of New Brunswick in Canada with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and philos- ophy in 1972 and a master’s degree in experimental psychology in 1976. He earned a Ph.D. in comparative psychology from the University of Hawaii in 1988. Bryan Collins enters his seventh year as the Director of Athletics at LIU Post. Under Collins’ leadership, the Pioneers’ athletic programs have seen a continual rise in both the regional and national levels of athletic performance and academics.

Notable achievements during his tenure include 29 conference titles as well as NCAA cham- B BRYAN COLLINS -

pionship titles from the 2007 and 2012 women’s lacrosse teams and the 2009 and 2010 men’s R lacrosse teams.

Y Th is past season, the men’s and women’s cross country, men’s soccer, men’s and women’s bas- ketball, women’s swimming, women’s lacrosse and softball all participated in NCAA tournaments. A N LIU Post boasts some of top-ranked programs in the country that are frequently ranked in nation- al polls. Th e Pioneers fi nished fi rst in the East Coast Conference Commissioner’s Cup standings

for 2009-10 - the second Cup win (2006-07) during Collins’ tenure. Prior to the 2007-08 academic C year, the football and fi eld hockey programs gained admission into the esteemed Pennsylvania

State Athletic Conference. O

Off the fi eld, Collins has included community service as a part of his players’ responsibilities. L During the 2011-12 academic year, LIU Post student-athletes completed a department record 3,484 hours of service. He cur- rently serves as the Chairman of the National Kidney Foundation – Long Island Kidney Walk. L I

Collins is responsible for the creation of a department mission statement based on the foundation of athletic excellence as N well as the initiation of the Academic Commitment Excellence (ACE) program, designed to improve attendance and academic achievements in the classroom. In addition, LIU Post athletic programs are mentored by campus faculty and staff through the Adopt-A-Faculty program. S

In 2007-08, Collins established a Student-Athlete Orientation seminar and handbook as well as an annual student-athlete -

recognition dinner to recognize both athletic and academic success. Th e department also established an Academic Honor Roll to D DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS honor student-athletes’ who receive a minimum 3.0 grade point average.

In addition, Collins serves on the East Coast Conference Ex- I ecutive Committee and is also involved with the NCAA/ADA R Mentoring Program. He currently serves on regional advisory committees for men’s lacrosse and baseball. E C Collins has overseen improvements to the athletic facilities on campus, including the installation of FieldTurf T on Hickox Field as well as a brand new state-of-the art sound system for the stadium. In addition, all of the outdoor athletic O fi elds have undergone improvements to their playing surface. Th e Pratt Recreation Center Gymnasium, home to the basket- R ball and volleyball teams, received a new sound system as well
