This family event is designed to celebrate neighborhood spirit and strengthen the partnership between the police department and the community.

Enjoy activities for the entire family including free food (for the first 500 people), swimming, music, face painting, give-aways, a bounce house, vendors and crime prevention and safety displays.

Last year, National Night Out involved 37 million people in more than 15,000 communities from all 50 states.

This year's event is sponsored by the City of Daytona Beach, Daytona Beach Weed and Seed and Target. AN EVENING ABOUT THE E-ZONE There will be a public presentation of three draft alternatives plans for the area known as the E-Zone on Tuesday, August 3, 6 p.m., at Peabody Auditorium, 600 Auditorium Blvd.

This is the second in a series of public meetings for residents and stakeholders to learn about and contribute to the process of developing a master plan for the E-Zone, the area surrounding the Ocean Center and Main Street.

The E-Zone is envisioned as an entertainment district that will further Daytona Beach’s image as a convention and family tourist destination. For more information, please visit www.codb.us/ezone. ROAD CLOSURE UPDATE IN OLD DAYTONA Beginning this week Palmetto Avenue is closed between Bellevue Avenue and Cedar Street for construction related to the South Street stormwater rehabilitation project and a traffic calming and beautification initiative. This section of Palmetto Avenue (and South Street which has already been offline for several months) will be closed to thru traffic for several months while these construction projects are taking place.

PEACE, LOVE AND MUSIC COMING TO DAYTONA BEACH Put on your tie-dye and have some psychedelic fun this summer as the City of Daytona Beach presents the 2nd Annual Hippiefest & 25th Anniversary Happy Together Tour on Friday, July 30. The excitement starts at 4 p.m. with a FREE, outdoor street festival on Auditorium Boulevard which will bring merchandise and food vendors, along with live bands, to get and wanna-be hippies in the mood for the star-studded concert to follow at 7:30 p.m. in Peabody Auditorium.

The concert features greats from the 60s including , , lead singer and drummer , The Turtles featuring Flo & Eddie, and , former lead singer of Paul Revere and the Raiders.

LINE-UP ANNOUNCED FOR AMERICAN MUSIC FESTIVAL ON LABOR DAY WEEKEND The complete line-up of artists in ticketed events for Labor Day weekend’s American Music Festival was announced this week. The festival, which features six ticketed and up to 20 free concerts, will take place in three venues over the now extended five days from September 1 – 5, 2010 in Daytona Beach. Joining previously announced R&B megastar Usher and Disney superstars, The Jonas Brothers with Demi Lovato, performances begin in the Peabody Auditorium, with American music icon Tony Bennett. In addition, the festival will activate the historic Bandshell as a ticketed arena for the first time, housing performances by Blake Shelton with special guest Jerrod Niemann, Buddy Guy, Taj Mahal and the Phantom Blues Band, and Huey Lewis and the News.

The festival, which is produced by the Community Cultural Foundation, will kick-off with the unveiling of The Color of Rock by artist Phillip Burke, an exhibit from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame that will be housed in the Ocean Center beginning September 1, 2010 and will remain for a 12-week period, free to the public. “We are very proud of the diversity and completeness this festival offers our residents and guests. There is truly something for everyone featuring fantastic artists from all genres of American music,” said CCF President Manuel Bornia.
