The “Eight Loves of The Peninsula Shanghai” experiential programmes begin on 1 June, 2020 and will continue through 30 December 2020. The award, the first in Beijing for a newly renovated hotel, was in recognition of The Peninsula Beijing’s complete transformation in 2017 which saw it become the first all-suite hotel in China. The Peninsula Beijing was transformed in a complex feat of engineering and design, effectively combining the original 525 rooms into 230 suites. During the renovation, sustainable guidelines including BREEAM were incorporated from the beginning of the project planning. The Peninsula Beijing achieved a GOOD rating to become only the third BREEAM-accredited building in the Chinese capital, and the first for a newly renovated hotel. It is also the first hotel owned by the Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels to achieve BREEAM status. Senior representatives from BRE, HSH and The Peninsula Beijing attended an award ceremony at the hotel, to honour the hotel’s remarkable achievement. “Congratulations to The Peninsula Beijing which has gone beyond typical best practice in design and refurbishment and is a great example of the enduring benefits of sustainable construction,” said Mr Niall Trafford, CEO of BRE Group.
