THE PENINSULA CHICAGO CELEBRATES CHINESE MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL welcomes the harvest and autumn moon with traditional Chinese festivities and celebrated Peninsula mooncakes

Celebrating its heritage as Asia’s oldest hospitality brand and China’s first luxury hotel marque, The Peninsula Chicago invites guests interested in a Chinese cultural experience to indulge in the Mid-Autumn Festival activities from September 25, through October 3, 2020. For the eighth year, the hotel will pay homage to one of the most charming and colorful annual events in China, which falls on October 1st this year, and celebrates the harvest time and the biggest, brightest moon of the year. Special offerings at The Peninsula include authentic mooncakes (the traditional sweet cakes savored on this holiday), à la carte and prix-fixe menus in Shanghai Terrace, together with festive decor in The Lobby and Shanghai Terrace.

Along with enjoying mooncakes, people in China gather outside, often at high vantage points and watch the full moon.

Shanghai Terrace Mid-Autumn Festival Offerings: Guests of Shanghai Terrace will take part in the Mid-Autumn Festival, Chicago-style, under the night sky on The Terrace, located four stories above Michigan Avenue. Shanghai Terrace will feature the celebrated, hand-made, egg custard-filled Peninsula mooncakes on the dinner menu during this festive season. Chef Elmo Han of Shanghai Terrace will create the light, egg custard and flaky pastry morsels that replace the traditional, heavy, lotus paste and duck egg yolk mooncakes, and have become a firm favorite throughout Asia. Shanghai Terrace’s culinary team offers special six-course prix-fixe menu inspired by the Chinese holiday, September 25, through October 3, 2020, priced at US$ 128 per person, plus tax and gratuity.

Mid-Autumn Festival Mooncake Gift Set: The Peninsula Chicago will have Mid-Autumn Festival house made mooncakes available for purchase in Shanghai Terrace with pre-orders available now through October 1, 2020 with pick up from September 17, through October 4, 2020.
