But many of the new measures have instead cut America off from the worlld,, punishing innocent peoplle and discouraging the best and the brightest from coming here.. In The Cllosing of the American Border,, Edward Allden reports on the internall battlles in the Bush administration over these new measures,, and chroniclles the tragic stories of many who have been hurt by what resullted.. EDWARD ALDEN Edward Allden is the Bernard L.. Schwartz senior fellllow at the Council on Foreign Rellations (CFR),, speciallizing in U..S.. competitiveness.. His expertise inclludes U..S.. immigration and visa pollicies,, U..S.. trade pollicy,, and the impact of homelland security pollicies on U..S.. economic competitiveness.. Mr..
