Expansion status... , As we move ever nearly the possibility of university status for our beloved GSC and our co-conspiratory schools, it is important to keep a few things in mind as we salivate over the potential rewards of the future. The riches and benefits of this move are potentially numerous, but there is danger and troubles inherent in this type of move. GSC continues to grow at a rate that astounds and rewrites the books of senior college expansion, but at the cost of proper student housing. We are building a new book store, weight room and student center and depending on local apartment builders to accomidate the overflow of domicile seeking freshmen. Our lottery for student housing is one unfortunate result of this zeal for higher attendance figures. Expansion is great, but at what cost as our roads are already choking with student automobiles and more will be soon on the way. It may be time to step back and take a good hard look at the needs of the present student body before we decide to add to its number. ^ 0E^ Thursday, July 28, 1988 • The GEORGE-ANNE • Page 3
