Detailed Plot Description for Cold Case Club

Five women from four U.S. cities form the Cold Case Club to solve cold murder cases for entertainment. They have no idea what awaits them. Their successes and failures result in five murders, bringing the mystery into the lives of police and civilians working together to solve the case.

Molly Fitzgerald and her son, Joseph Fitzgerald, live together in Brookline, Massachusetts. On her deathbed, she discloses a family secret that upsets Joseph’s world. A twenty‐five year old reporter for the Boston Gazette, Joseph travels to Omaha while researching a Police Department funding story and meets Homicide Detective Sean O’Mally. Joseph provides the lead that jump starts the investigation to solve the murder of the Omaha Cold Case Club member, Susan Higgins. Sean is assigned to the case one week before Christmas and hires Joseph as a consultant. To coordinate resources with the Kansas City Police Department, Sean and Joseph drive to Kansas City. Sean brings his college age daughter, Fiona, along for the ride. They stay at a Country Club Plaza hotel and admire the Plaza’s colorful Christmas lights.

During the investigation, Fiona is shocked and Sean is surprised to learn what he left behind when he relocated to Omaha after leaving Boston’s Police Department. Sean connects the murder of the Cold Case Club members to a Kansas City cold murder case from 1998. They also uncover a mole in the Kansas City Police Department that leads to several Kansas City mobsters. Sean is close to solving the case, but the killer has other plans for Fiona. Kansas City Police Detective Juan Ramirez and Sean are wounded in a shootout while capturing and wounding the killer. When the culprit escapes inside the hospital, Sean fights for his life. After solving the Cold Case Club murders, Sean’s family is forever changed.
