LCDR (sel) JOSEPH R. TULLIS III, United States Navy Lieutenant Joseph Tullis was born in Miamisburg, Ohio and enlisted in the United States Navy attending basic training in Great Lakes, IL, in January 2001. LT Tullis attended Liberty University, Lynchburg, VA, and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in 2014, and his Master of Arts in Executive Leadership in 2017. He is also a graduate of the Naval War College, Newport, RI, completing JPME-1 in 2020. After completion of initial training, he reported to the HS- 10 Warhawks in San Diego, CA, maintaining the SH-60F. After HS-10 he was detailed to HSL-37 in Kaneohe Bay, HI, maintaining the SH-60B; he deployed twice to South America supporting counter drug operations with the Coast Guard aboard the USS REUBEN JAMES (FFG-57), and to the Northern Arabian Gulf in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, aboard the USS CHAFEE (DDG- 90). Next he reported to the Grand Masters, HSL-46, in Mayport, FL, maintaining the SH-60B and SH- 60R. He deployed aboard USS VELLA GULF (CG-72) to the Mediterranean in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. Following a successful tour he was selected to the Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron (Blue Angels) class of 2012. During his tour there he completed two successful show seasons before being selected as an Aerospace Maintenance Duty Officer FY14. After Officer Candidate School, LT Tullis reported to HSC-25 in Guam where he deployed as the Maintenance Officer aboard USNS WASHINGTON CHAMBERS (T-AKE11) and the USS BONHOMME RICHARD (LHD-6) with two MH-60S aircraft, in support of CTF-70, and as the SEVENTH fleet station ammo support ship. He served in various positions including Maintenance Material Control Officer, and Material Control Officer. In December 2018, LT Tullis was detailed to FRCNW VANOPDET where he deployed as OIC to Al Udeid, QATAR leading the largest VANOPDET in a decade, to CENTCOM, supporting VAQ-135 during Operations INHERENT RESOLVE and FREEDOM’S SENTINEL. He also served in various positions including AV/ARM Division Officer, Manpower Manager, and Power Plants Division Officer. Currently LT Tullis is the Maintenance Material Control Officer at VFA-192, attached to CVW-2 aboard USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70). Lieutenant Tullis’ personal decorations include Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (6), and various other personal, unit, and campaign awards. He is authorized to wear the Professional Aviation Maintenance Officer Warfare breast insignia. His DAWIA certifications include Level II Production, Quality, & Manufacturing and Level II Life Cycle Logistics. .
