The largest of these, the Warsaw Ghetto, concentrated approximately 300,000–400,000 people into a densely packed, 3.3 km2 central area of Warsaw. Approximately 250,000–300,000 ghetto residents met their deaths at Treblinka during the two-month-long operation in 1942, another thousands in Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in 1943. On 1 August 1944, The Warsaw Uprising began as part of a nationwide Operation Tempest, launched at the time of the Soviet Lublin–Brest Offensive. Our objectives were to drive the Germans out of Warsaw while helping the Allies defeat Germany. The uprising was timed to coincide with the retreat of the German forces from Poland ahead of the Soviet advance. While approaching the eastern suburbs of the city, the Red Army temporarily halted combat operations, enabling the Germans to regroup. Initially, we established control over most of central Warsaw, but the Soviets ignored our attempts to maintain radio contact with them and did not advance beyond the city limits. Intense street fighting between us and the Germans continued. By 14 September, the eastern bank of the Vistula River opposite our positions was taken over by the Polish troops fighting under the Soviet command. 1,200 men made it across the river, but they were not reinforced by the Red Army.

TWILIGHT 2000 Twilight 2000 is a Role playing game set in a fictional future, one where World war 3 began in the late 1990's and eventually slipped into a nuclear exchange changing society as we know it. The players assume the roles of survivors trying to live through the aftermath of the war. Twilight 2000 was published in the mid 1980's by Game Designers Workshop who unfortunately closed their doors in the early 1990's. The copyright was purchased by Tantalus, Inc but there are no stated plans to revive the game. Despite the lack of any new material from a publisher the game continues to expand through the players on websites such as this. This is my contribution to the game, this site will be in a constant state of change, I plan to add material as I get it finished. This will include new equipment, optional rules, alternate game backgrounds and other material as it accumulates, currently I am working on source material for a World war 2 background, but I also have been completing some optional rules of my own as well as modern equipment. GUN SHOWS, GUN COLLECTORS AND THE STORY OF THE GUN: AN ETHNOGRAPHIC APPROACH TO U.S. GUN CULTURE DISSERTATION Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of The Ohio State University By Jimmy D. Taylor, B.S. M.A. ***** The Ohio State University 2008 Dissertation Committee: Approved by Professor Timothy Jon Curry Professor Paul Bellair _________________________________ Professor Steven Lopez Advisor Graduate Program in Sociology ABSTRACT The following dissertation explores the symbolic meaning of guns, and the ways in which the meaning of gun ownership, as well as the symbolic meaning imbued in individual guns influences aspects of social interaction. This ethnographic research effort applies thick, descriptive methods of observation and grounded theoretical techniques to this largely unexplored aspect of U.S. gun culture. A total of 52 interviews of varying length were conducted with a range of gun owners in venues that included gun collectors’ homes, shooting events, and public gun shows in the Midwest. Subjects were asked to share the stories of their guns, and explore the value of guns in their collections. The data reveal some interesting patterns, which are not limited to the following: 1) Guns, as an aspect of culture, or product of social interaction, are rich with symbolic values; 2) For many gun owners, the value placed on guns is far more emotional in nature than monetary; 3) The value ascribed to guns by their owners appears to influence the way in which gun owners interact with their guns as well as their social audience; 4) Gun owners recognize a unique type of stigma associated with these cultural products, and respond through a complex series of stigma management techniques; and 5) U.S.

  • The Illicit Gun Market in Belgium: a Lethal Cocktail of Criminal Supply and Terrorist Demand BELGIUM
21 The illicit gun market in Belgium: A lethal cocktail of criminal supply and terrorist demand BELGIUM Nils Duquet and Kevin Goris In recent years Belgium has often been labelled one of Europe’s hotspots for illicit firearms, including military-grade assault rifles. Among other things, this label is a result of the evidence indicating that the terrorist networks responsible for the Paris attacks in 2015 acquired some of their firearms in Belgium. Belgium also has a historical reputation as being a ’gun country’ due to, among other things, hun- dreds of years of firearms production and related traditions, its lenient firearms leg- islation until 2006, and numerous export and trafficking scandals involving fire- arms. Yet, despite this reputation, very little academic or policy-oriented research has been undertaken on the size and dynamics of the illicit firearms market in Belgium in general and on terrorist access to this market in particular. In this chapter we will analyse the characteristics and dynamics of the illicit fire- arms market in Belgium, with a special focus on terrorist access to this market and the Belgian policy that has been developed in recent years to combat this security phenomenon. For this analysis we used a combination of quantitative and qualita- tive methods (see Box 1). This chapter on (terrorist access to) the illicit gun market in Belgium consists of three main sections and a conclusion. In the first section we examine Belgian national policy and legislation to combat the illicit firearms market in general and the functioning of and cooperation between the practitioners involved in this process in particular.

  • Red Orchestra 2 + Rising Storm by Anonymous
Red Orchestra 2 + Rising Storm By Anonymous “We have fought during fifteen days for a single house with mortars, grenades, machine guns, and bayonets. Already by the third day fifty-four German corpses are strewn in the cellars, on the landings, and the staircases. The front is a corridor between burnt-out rooms; it is the thin ceiling between two floors. Help comes from neighbouring houses by fire escapes and chimneys. There is a ceaseless struggle from noon to night. From story to story, faces black with sweat, we bombard each other with grenades in the middle of explosions, clouds of dust and smoke, heaps of mortar, floods of blood, fragments of furniture and human beings. Ask any soldier what half an hour of hand-to-hand struggle means in such a fight. And imagine Stalingrad; eighty days and eighty nights of hand-to- hand struggles. The street is no longer measured by meters but by corpses... Stalingrad is no longer a town. By day it is an enormous cloud of burning, blinding smoke; it is a vast furnace lit by the reflection of the flames. And when night arrives, one of those scorching, howling, bleeding nights, the dogs plunge into the Volga and swim desperately to gain the other bank. The nights of Stalingrad are a terror for them. Animals flee this hell; the hardest stones can not bear it for long; only men endure.” Welcome to Stalingrad, soldier. One of the largest battles in human history is taking place here. More than a million men will fight on both sides of a gruelling house-to-house warfare that will leave a formerly beautiful city a smoking ruin.

A small number of experimental submachine guns (See Tokarev 1927), designed by Fedor Tokarev, were also produced in a 7.62 mm Nagant chambering. None, however, were accepted into Soviet service.[1][2] Background The projectile is seated below the mouth of the cartridge, with the cartridge crimp sitting just above the bullet. When fired in the Nagant revolver, the crimp expands into the forcing cone, completing the gas-seal and ostensibly increasing muzzle velocity by approximately 23 m/s (75 ft/s).

  • Izhevsky Mekhanichesky Zavod (Mechanical Plant, Izhevsk), “Izhmekh”, Which Is Known As Well Under Its Trademark “Baikal” Was Founded on July, 20Th, 1942 During WWII
Mikhail Dragunovs fulde tekst om Baikal (januar 2021) Izhevsky Mekhanichesky Zavod (Mechanical Plant, Izhevsk), “Izhmekh”, which is known as well under its trademark “Baikal” was founded on July, 20th, 1942 during WWII. The main production of the factory were military small arms – Tokarev pistols M1933 (TT), Nagant M1895 revolvers, Simonov and Degtyarev antitank rifles. After WWII the factory started the production of hunting and sporting weapons. The first model of the shotguns was the single-barrel shotgun ZK (Zlatoust, Kazantsev – Place of production/Designer’s name). The cheap and reliable gun was very popular in Russia, especially among country inhabitants. The production of ZK started in 1949. A year later the factory commenced the production of a side-by-side shotgun, model IZH-49. The IZH-49 based on the Sauer Mod. VIII system. The IZH-49 marked the beginning of the Izhevsk side-by-side shotguns family. It included the IZH-54, the IZH-58 (various modifications), the IZH-26, the IZH-43 (various modifications). The most popular of them was the IZH-54 which a lot of people considered as “An Izhevsk Classic”. An over-under shotgun appeared in the family Izhmekh guns in 1959. The first O/U shotgun of Izhmekh had IZH-59 designation. After two years it was replaced with the IZH-12 model. Since 1973 the serial production of the IZH-27 started. Till this time the IZH-27 is the most popular model of Izhevsk shotguns. The end of 1950th was the time of growing popularity skeet & trap shooting in the USSR. The IZH-59 intended primarily for skeet & trap but it was used for hunting as well.
