Recoil Action: Firearm action that uses the force of the recoil to provide energy to cycle the action. Roller-delayed Blowback: A type of fi rearm action where rollers on the sides of the bolt are driven inward against a tapered bolt carrier extension. This forces the bolt carrier rearward at a higher velocity and delays movement of the bolt head. Rolling Block Action: A fi rearm action where the breech is seeled with a specially shaped breechblock able to rotate on a pin. The breechblock is locked in place by the hammer preventing the cartridge from moving backwards when fi red. Cocking the weapon allows the breechblock to be rotated to reload the weapon. Short Recoil Action: Action where the barrel and slide recoil together a short distance before they unlock and separate. The barrel stops quickly, and the slide continues rearward, compressing the recoil spring and performing the automated extraction and feeding process. During the last portion of its forward travel, the slide locks into the barrel and pushes the barrel back into battery. Slide Action: A fi rearm action where the handgrip is moved back and forth along the barrel in order to eject a spent cartridge and chamber a new one. This type of action is most common in shotguns and is also used in some rifl e designs. It is also called pump action. Snaphance: A method of fi ring a gun that uses a fl int set in the hammer that when the trigger is pulled causes the fl int to strike the frizzen to create a shower of sparks to ignite the priming powder. -

The largest of these, the Warsaw Ghetto, concentrated approximately 300,000–400,000 people into a densely packed, 3.3 km2 central area of Warsaw. Approximately 250,000–300,000 ghetto residents met their deaths at Treblinka during the two-month-long operation in 1942, another thousands in Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in 1943. On 1 August 1944, The Warsaw Uprising began as part of a nationwide Operation Tempest, launched at the time of the Soviet Lublin–Brest Offensive. Our objectives were to drive the Germans out of Warsaw while helping the Allies defeat Germany. The uprising was timed to coincide with the retreat of the German forces from Poland ahead of the Soviet advance. While approaching the eastern suburbs of the city, the Red Army temporarily halted combat operations, enabling the Germans to regroup. Initially, we established control over most of central Warsaw, but the Soviets ignored our attempts to maintain radio contact with them and did not advance beyond the city limits. Intense street fighting between us and the Germans continued. By 14 September, the eastern bank of the Vistula River opposite our positions was taken over by the Polish troops fighting under the Soviet command. 1,200 men made it across the river, but they were not reinforced by the Red Army. -

Twilight 2000
TWILIGHT 2000 Twilight 2000 is a Role playing game set in a fictional future, one where World war 3 began in the late 1990's and eventually slipped into a nuclear exchange changing society as we know it. The players assume the roles of survivors trying to live through the aftermath of the war. Twilight 2000 was published in the mid 1980's by Game Designers Workshop who unfortunately closed their doors in the early 1990's. The copyright was purchased by Tantalus, Inc but there are no stated plans to revive the game. Despite the lack of any new material from a publisher the game continues to expand through the players on websites such as this. This is my contribution to the game, this site will be in a constant state of change, I plan to add material as I get it finished. This will include new equipment, optional rules, alternate game backgrounds and other material as it accumulates, currently I am working on source material for a World war 2 background, but I also have been completing some optional rules of my own as well as modern equipment. For other perspectives on Twilight 2000 visit the links listed at the bottom of this page. The Early Short, Magazine Lee-Enfield Rifle As Issued 1902-1932
The Early Short, Magazine Lee-Enfield Rifle as Issued 1902-1932 By Kirk E. Brumbaugh "The essence of infantry tactics consists in breaking clown the enemy's resistance by the weight and direction of its fire, and then completing Ms overthrow by assault. Although the enemy may not await the assault, infantry must be constantly animated with the desire to close with him. Troops under cover, unless enfiladed, can seldom be forced to retire by fire alone, and a decision by fire, even if possible, takes long to obtain. To drive an enemy from the field, assault, or the immediate threat of it, is almost always necessary." General Staff, War Office, Field Service Regulations. Part I (London: HMSO 1909 as amended 1912) The history of the Short Magazine Lee-Enfield (SMLE) rifle is intertwined with events which set the strategic and 1 •fi tactical environment in which it was thrust when first issued in 1903. As a "weapons system," the Lee rifle, designed by American James Paris Lee, had been in British service for over a decade, first as a long rifle (1888), later also as a car- bine (1894). Combat experience in the Sudan in 1898, and the Boer War of 1899-1902, revealed the limitations of the rifle and carbine in their then current form and led to a fun- damental overhaul of British Army Doctrine and thought on how training, and development of a new rifle, should take place. Armies are frequently accused of planning for the "last war." For Britain and Empire forces, the period of 1900 through 1914 demonstrated exactly that. -

Argentine versions tend to have slightly different parts measurements than Belgian-made FALs due to local manufacturing methods; therefore, most parts of the FSL series are not interchangeable with more standard FALs. The Fusil Automatico Liviano Modelo IV (FALM IV) is an Argentine-made copy of the Belgian FAL Model 50-00. It is virtually identical to the FAL, but is heavier and has a more substantial muzzle brake. The Fusil Automatico Liviano Modelo Para III (FALMP III) is virtually identical to the FAL 50-64, but again is longer and heavier, with a longer muzzle brake. -

Last of the Classic Lever Actions by Rob Kassab & Brad Dunbar
Winchester Model 1895 - Last of The Classic Lever Actions By Rob Kassab & Brad Dunbar The title of this excellent new book by Kassab and Dunbar says it all; the Model 1895 Winchester was really the last of the classic lever-action rifles. The 1895 was indeed a “transition” firearm that saw big changes in the firearms world and had a successful career not only in America but all over the world. Chamberings in the Model ’95 ran the gamut from black-powder cartridges to smokeless, high-velocity rounds. If I’ve piqued your interest in learning more about the Winchester Model 1895, then you are in luck. This new book by Rob Kassab and Brad Dunbar will answer every question you could have about the rifle. I thought I was pretty well-versed on 1895s but found out that I merely knew enough to be dangerous. There is much more to the ’95 Winchester story than I would have imagined. Fortunately, Kassab and Dunbar have done an excellent job in telling that story. From the genius of John Browning and William Mason to standardized and custom production at Winchester, reloading tools, military contracts, accoutrements such as slings and bayonets, and of course, the Theodore Roosevelt connection . all are covered in this comprehensive book. My own interest in Model 1895s has always centered around the musket contract that was done with Russia for the first World War. The ’95 was one of the very few lever-action rifles to serve in a major conflict when the world had almost universally gone to bolt-action rifles for their armies. -
